Fire up the flux capacitor, grab your hoverboard and make sure you’ve got enough road to hit 88mph — because Back to the Future: The Musical is officially heading to CARDIFF!

Great Scott, mun! ⚡

One of the biggest movie-to-stage productions around is bringing Marty McFly, Doc Brown and that legendary DeLorean to the Wales Millennium Centre as part of the musical’s first-ever UK tour.

And Cardiff isn’t getting some blink-and-you’ll-miss-it visit either.

📍 Wales Millennium Centre – Donald Gordon Theatre, Cardiff
📅 19 October – 13 November 2027
🎟️ Tickets from £22, rising to £72 depending on performance and seating

That’s nearly FOUR WEEKS of time-travelling madness in Cardiff Bay.

Somebody get the plutonium. 🚗💨

🎟️ HOW MUCH ARE BACK TO THE FUTURE: THE MUSICAL TICKETS IN CARDIFF?

Now for the important bit — how much damage is this going to do to the gig-and-theatre fund?

Tickets for Back to the Future: The Musical in Cardiff are currently priced between £22 and £72, depending on the date, performance time and where you’re sitting inside the Donald Gordon Theatre.

Some performances are listed from £22, while selected matinee performances currently start from £25.

So you’ve essentially got a few options:

  • 🎟️ Budget seats: from around £22
  • 🎭 Selected matinees: from around £25
  • ⚡ Higher-priced seats / premium locations: up to around £72

As always with big touring productions, ticket availability and prices can vary by performance and seating area, so if you’ve got your heart set on a particular night — or you want the kind of seat where you can practically check the flux capacitor yourself — booking earlier is probably the sensible shout.

And considering what some massive West End trips can cost once you’ve thrown in London hotels, trains, food and the inevitable £8 pint, getting the DeLorean practically on our doorstep in Cardiff suddenly looks rather tidy.

🎬 FROM 1985 TO THE CARDIFF STAGE

If you’ve somehow avoided Back to the Future for the last four decades — firstly, what have you been doing?

Released in 1985, the original film introduced us to teenager Marty McFly, eccentric scientist Dr Emmett “Doc” Brown and one of the coolest cars ever committed to film.

Marty accidentally travels from 1985 back to 1955 in Doc’s modified DeLorean time machine, where he manages to interfere with his parents’ first meeting.

Which is… slightly problematic.

Because if they don’t fall in love, Marty doesn’t exist.

No pressure then, butt.

What follows is one of cinema’s greatest mixtures of comedy, science fiction, adventure, romance and glorious ’80s madness.

Now that story has been transformed into a massive stage musical.

⚡ WAIT… HOW DO YOU PUT THE DELOREAN ON STAGE?!

That’s the question, isn’t it?

Because you can have Marty.

You can have Doc.

You can have Hill Valley.

But Back to the Future without the DeLorean would be like AC/DC without guitars.

Thankfully, the stage production goes BIG.

The DeLorean is very much part of the show, with the production using huge theatrical effects, projections, lighting and stage technology to recreate the time-travelling spectacle.

And we’re deliberately not spoiling everything here.

If you’ve never seen the production, some things are much better experienced sitting in the theatre wondering:

“HOW THE HELL DID THEY JUST DO THAT?!”

😂⚡🚗

🎸 AND THE SOUNDTRACK ABSOLUTELY SLAPS

This is where Back to the Future: The Musical gets particularly interesting for us riff-loving creatures.

The stage production features original music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard.

But don’t worry — some of the songs permanently welded to Back to the Future are along for the ride too.

We’re talking:

🎵 The Power of Love

🎵 Back in Time

🎵 Johnny B. Goode

🎵 Earth Angel

That means you’re getting musical theatre, rock ‘n’ roll, ’50s nostalgia and massive ’80s energy all smashed together inside the Donald Gordon Theatre.

Basically, Riff Report territory.

🤘 JOHNNY B. GOODE, CARDIFF!

And yes…

There’s something wonderfully appropriate about Johnny B. Goode blasting out inside a theatre packed with people who already know exactly what’s coming.

Anyone who’s seen the film remembers Marty grabbing that guitar at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance.

Things start innocently enough.

Then Marty decides to go absolutely feral.

Chuck Berry riffs.

Rock star poses.

Van Halen-inspired shredding.

People in 1955 staring at him like he’s been possessed by the spirit of Download Festival.

Then comes one of the greatest lines in the movie:

“I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet… but your kids are gonna love it.”

Beautiful.

😂🎸

🏆 A PROPER WEST END HIT

This isn’t some little touring adaptation thrown together with cardboard scenery and a toy DeLorean either.

Back to the Future: The Musical became a major West End production and won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical.

The show also has some serious Back to the Future pedigree behind it.

Original film co-writer Bob Gale adapted the story for the stage, helping ensure this isn’t simply a musical borrowing the famous name.

It’s a theatrical trip straight back into Hill Valley.

🏴 CARDIFF GETS A BIG ONE

And this is another cracking booking for Cardiff.

The Wales Millennium Centre continues to pull in enormous touring productions, and getting Back to the Future: The Musical for an extended run is a proper result for Welsh theatre fans.

Rather than having to pile onto a train to London, remortgage the house for accommodation and discover that a pint near the West End costs roughly the same as a small hatchback, Welsh fans will be able to experience the show right here in Cardiff Bay.

Tidy. 🏴🔥

And because the production runs from 19 October until 13 November 2027, there are plenty of opportunities to jump aboard the DeLorean.

🚗 88MPH INTO CARDIFF BAY

There are certain films that stopped being merely films years ago.

Back to the Future is one of them.

The DeLorean.

The hoverboard.

The clock tower.

“Great Scott!”

“Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”

The red body warmer.

Doc’s hair.

That guitar solo.

It’s all become part of pop culture.

And seeing that world recreated live on stage — complete with songs, effects and a bloody time-travelling DeLorean — should make this one of Cardiff’s biggest theatrical events of 2027.

Whether you’re a musical theatre obsessive, an ‘80s nostalgia addict, a rock fan who wants to hear Johnny B. Goode rattling around the Wales Millennium Centre or someone who’s spent 40 years secretly wanting a DeLorean…

This one’s going in the diary.

So polish the hoverboard.

Dig out the denim.

Charge the flux capacitor.

And prepare to go…

BACK. TO. THE. FUTURE.

⚡🚗💨🔥

Cardiff Bay won’t know what’s hit it.

Although if it reaches 88mph, technically it might disappear before anyone gets the chance to find out.

Great Scott, mun! 🤘🏴
