Live Aid. Queen. Bowie. U2. Elton John. Madonna. Cardiff Bay.
Yeah… that’ll do nicely. 🤘😂
One of the biggest rock ’n’ roll musicals currently tearing up the theatre world is heading straight for Wales, as JUST FOR ONE DAY: The Live Aid Musical arrives at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff from Tuesday 20 April to Saturday 24 April 2027.
And here’s the particularly tidy bit for Welsh music fans…
🎟️ TICKETS START FROM JUST £20!
That’s right, butt. According to current Cardiff listings, tickets start from £20, with prices varying depending on performance, seating area and availability.
Considering we’re talking about a show packed with some of the biggest songs in rock and pop history, that’s not exactly wallet-destroying territory.

And this isn’t simply another jukebox musical chucking famous songs together and hoping everyone sings along.
This is the story of Live Aid.
And what a bloody story it is.
🌍 THE DAY MUSIC TRIED TO CHANGE THE WORLD
On 13 July 1985, the music world basically decided normal service could wait.
Live Aid brought together an extraordinary collection of artists for simultaneous concerts at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, raising money for famine relief in Ethiopia.
Organised by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, the event became one of the defining moments in popular music history.
Millions watched around the world.
Legends walked onto those stages.
And then a certain bloke called Freddie Mercury sat down at a piano…
You know what happened next. 👑
Queen’s performance at Wembley has gone down as one of the greatest live performances in rock history.
Freddie commanding an entire stadium during Radio Ga Ga remains one of those goosebump-inducing moments that gets replayed endlessly four decades later.
But Live Aid was much bigger than one band.
The bill included a ridiculous collection of musical royalty, and JUST FOR ONE DAY brings that world back to life on stage.
🎤 QUEEN! BOWIE! U2! MADONNA! ELTON! 😍
The musical features songs associated with an absolutely outrageous list of artists, including:
🎤 Queen
⚡ David Bowie
🎸 The Who
🔥 U2
👑 Madonna
🎹 Elton John
🎤 Sting
🎸 Paul McCartney
🎶 Diana Ross
🎸 Bob Dylan
…and more.
Basically, somebody has looked at the history of popular music, grabbed a massive marker pen and circled half the legends.
This isn’t a tribute concert pretending to recreate Live Aid note-for-note, either.
The musical explores the people, decisions, chaos and ambition behind the event, telling the story of how one enormous idea became a global phenomenon.
🎭 FROM THE WEST END TO CARDIFF
JUST FOR ONE DAY has already enjoyed successful runs in London and received an Olivier Award nomination, and in 2027 the production is hitting the road for its first major UK and Ireland tour.
The tour begins in Leicester before rolling into Wales.
And Cardiff gets five days of the madness.
Tuesday 20 April – Saturday 24 April 2027.
That means Welsh audiences won’t need to trek all the way to London, spend approximately seventeen million quid on a hotel and remortgage the house for a pint near the West End.
Result. 😂
Instead, Live Aid is coming to Cardiff Bay.
Proper job.
💷 HOW MUCH ARE CARDIFF TICKETS?
Here’s the important bit.
Current listings for the Cardiff production advertise:
🎟️ Tickets from £20
The final price will depend on which performance you choose, where you’re sitting and ticket availability.
As you’d expect, the cheapest seats may disappear quickly, particularly as the performance dates get closer.
So if you’re hoping to get inside for around the £20 mark, we’d recommend having a nose at availability sooner rather than waiting until everyone suddenly remembers Queen are involved.
A percentage of ticket sales from the production also goes to the Band Aid Charitable Trust, continuing the charitable connection at the heart of the original Live Aid story.
👏 IMAGINE RADIO GA GA INSIDE THE WMC…
Now we’re thinking about it.
Hundreds of people.
Cardiff.
Radio Ga Ga.
👏👏
Those handclaps.
If the entire Wales Millennium Centre isn’t joining in, we’ll be disappointed in every single one of you.
There’s something particularly brilliant about bringing this story to Wales because Live Aid wasn’t merely another massive concert.
It demonstrated just how powerful live music can be when thousands — and ultimately millions — of people come together.
That’s something every gig-goer understands.
Whether you’re standing inside Wembley Stadium, halfway up a Welsh mountain at a rock festival or wedged against the barrier in a sweaty 300-capacity venue…
Music creates communities.
Live Aid simply did it on a ridiculous global scale.
🤘 THE RIFF REPORT VERDICT
This could be one of the most interesting theatre arrivals in Cardiff’s 2027 calendar.
You’ve got the story behind one of the most famous concerts ever staged.
You’ve got songs from Queen, Bowie, U2, The Who, Elton John, McCartney, Madonna, Sting and loads more.
You’ve got the atmosphere of a rock show smashed into a big theatrical production.
And you’ve got tickets currently starting at £20.
We’re struggling to find the downside here, mun.
So dust off the denim jacket, practise your Freddie Mercury “AY-OH!”, prepare those Radio Ga Ga handclaps and get yourself down Cardiff Bay.
Because for five nights in April 2027…
Cardiff is going back to Live Aid. 🎸🌍🔥
