๐ค โSo whatโs the story, flarey glory?โ
Last night, history was made at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, as Oasis finally reunited after 16 years. Emotions were high, pints were flowing, and the roof was ready to lift off. But instead of just being remembered for the biblical setlist and Liamโs parka-clad swagger, the showโs now trending for a very different reason:
Someone only went and lit a FLARE during โDonโt Look Back In Anger.โ
Yes. A real, smoke-chucking, eye-watering, red-tinged FLARE. In a sold-out stadium. With security tighter than Liamโs jeans. ๐คฏ
๐จ THE CHAOS UNFOLDSโฆ
It all kicked off just as the crowd belted out the immortal โSo Sally can waitโฆโ and BAM โ smoke starts billowing into the air like Cardiff had summoned the spirit of Knebworth and said, โMake it spicier.โ ๐ซ๏ธ
Social media exploded with videos and photos of the red cloud rising over the sea of fans. Security were on it fast, launching themselves over barriers and into the crowd like they were auditioning for WWE: Stadium Security Edition. One poor steward even took a pint to the head in the chaos. ๐บ๐ฅ
Fans were left coughing, squinting, and filming on their phones in equal measure. It looked cool, sure. But also bloody dangerous. A few were loving the wildness. Others? Absolutely tamping.
๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ OKAY BUT SERIOUSLYโฆ HOW DID THAT GET IN?!
Thatโs the question now on everyoneโs lips (and on every stewardโs clipboard). The Principality Stadium doesnโt exactly have lax security. This isnโt your mateโs back garden BBQ โ itโs a 74,500-capacity mega-venue with metal detectors, pat-downs, and CCTV sharper than Noelโs tongue.
So how did someone manage to smuggle in a flare โ an actual pyrotechnic device that literally glows and burns and sets off alarms? ๐คจ
๐ THEORIES ON THE TABLE:
- Down the trousers special โ Hey, weโve all seen the lengths footy fans will go to get their pyro in. A suspiciously bulky pair of pants mightโve gone unnoticed in the queue if timed right.
- Hollowed-out drinks flask โ Thereโve been rumours of clever containers designed to hold smoke bombs. If you can sneak vodka into Reading Festival disguised as sun cream, you can definitely try this.
- Team effort โ Distract security at one gate while someone else strolls through with it hidden in a rolled-up Liam Gallagher bucket hat.
- Fake medical equipment โ Not the first time someoneโs used a crutch or a mobility aid to hide stuff (and no, thatโs not a dig at access users โ just the scammers who ruin it for others).
Of course, these are just wild theories โ and we hope none of them give any daft buggers ideas for future gigs. Letโs be real: this isnโt clever, itโs dangerous.
๐งฏ WHAT THE EXPERTS SAYโฆ
We reached out to a former stadium steward (letโs call him ‘Stevo’) for insight:
“Mate, itโs mad. Youโd be surprised what people get in โ weโve seen vapes disguised as pens, bottles up sleeves, even someone taping stuff to their thighs. But a flare? Thatโs bold. That takes commitment. Also โ pretty flipping stupid.”
He added:
“Weโre trained to spot dodgy stuff, but with that many people, if someoneโs really determined and sneaky, things slip through. We try our best, but itโs not MI5, is it?”
๐ IS IT WORTH IT FOR THE ‘GRAM?
Letโs not pretend flares donโt look cool in a photo. That crimson haze with thousands singing? Itโs a vibe. But when you consider:
- The risk of burns ๐ฅ
- The choking smoke ๐ท
- The panic it causes ๐ซจ
- And the fact security could’ve evacuated entire sections if it escalatedโฆ
โฆit starts to look a bit less rock ‘n’ roll, and a bit more absolute bellend behaviour.
Also, have you ever tried breathing in a flare cloud under a closed roof? It’s like inhaling Satanโs vape pen.
๐ถ THE BAND KEPT PLAYING (OF COURSE)
Oasis โ pros that they are โ didnโt flinch. Liam, to his credit, just kept on belting it out with that signature scowl, possibly unaware of the chaos unfolding. Or maybe just not giving a toss. Classic.
The crowd still finished the song in glorious, goosebump-raising unison, but that red mist will definitely be what a lot of people remember today.
๐ฃ THE RIFF REPORT VERDICT:
- Security: Doing their best, but someone pulled a fast one ๐ต๏ธ
- Flare-wielder: Probably banned for life now. And rightly so. ๐ โโ๏ธ
- Fans nearby: Half shook, half filming
- The rest of us: Just wanna enjoy the tunes without asphyxiating!
๐ฌ WHAT FANS ARE SAYING:
โI thought we were in for a magic moment. Instead I got a lungful of smoke and a lad yelling โOI OI!โ in my ear.โ โ Rhys from Pontypridd
โCould barely see Liam through the red mist. At first I thought it was a new lighting effect. Then I realised we were under attack from โFlare Ladโ.โ โ Jade, front row
โProper stupid, that. I brought my dad and he nearly choked on his stadium pie.โ โ Gethin, block L32
๐ FINAL THOUGHT:
We love a good gig. We love chaos. We even love a bit of madness in the crowd (circle pits at Stereophonics? Yes please). But flares? Inside a stadium? Nah mun. Save that for the away end at Millwall.
Letโs keep the passion, the pint-throwing, and the anthems โ and leave the pyrotechnics to the professionals, yeah?
Stay safe, sing loud, and next timeโฆ just wave your phone torch like the rest of us, butt. ๐ฑโจ
