Welcome to The Riff Report DVD Reviews – where the amps are loud, the documentaries are revealing, the concert footage is turned up far too high and the remote control has probably disappeared down the side of the sofa again. 📀🎸🤘

Sometimes you can’t beat sticking on a great DVD, turning the volume up and disappearing into a couple of hours of live music, rock history, backstage chaos or pure entertainment.

Our DVD Reviews section dives into the visual side of the rock and metal world, covering everything from concert films and live performances to band documentaries, music biographies, anniversary releases, tour films, festival footage and enormous collector’s editions.

There’s something special about a great concert DVD.

Maybe it captures a legendary band at the absolute height of their powers. Perhaps it documents a historic tour that fans still talk about decades later. Or maybe it preserves one unforgettable performance that deserves to be experienced again and again – preferably with the speakers turned up loud enough to annoy the neighbours.

Then there are the documentaries.

Rock and metal history is packed with incredible stories, and some of the best documentaries take us beyond the stage to explore the musicians, friendships, arguments, recording sessions, tours and occasional spectacular disasters behind the music.

We’ll be looking at the stories being told, the quality of the performances, the archive footage, bonus features, sound and presentation, while answering the most important question of all:

Is it actually worth adding to your collection?

And while rock and metal will always be at the heart of The Riff Report, we’re certainly not keeping things locked exclusively inside the rehearsal room.

Expect occasional adventures into films, television, comedy, horror, gaming, entertainment and pop culture, especially when something looks like it might appeal to the same crowd who spend their summers standing in muddy festival fields wearing black band shirts.

We’ve also got plenty of love for physical media.

In an age where almost everything can be streamed at the press of a button, there’s still something satisfying about owning a proper release – especially when it comes loaded with bonus footage, interviews, documentaries, commentary tracks, booklets and other extras.

Because streaming services can remove something overnight.

That DVD sitting proudly on your shelf isn’t going anywhere.

So grab the snacks, turn down the lights, crank up the sound system and prepare for another trip through the loudest corner of the home entertainment collection.
