Sometimes you donโ€™t need three guitarists, seventeen pedalboards and enough equipment to bankrupt a small festival.

Sometimes you just need two blokes, a bass guitar, a drum kit and an unreasonable amount of aggression.

Welcome to SWAMPFOOT. ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Hailing from New York State, SWAMPFOOT are a two-piece hardcore punk outfit formed in 2025 by Cliff Hodson on vocals and bass and Jordan Greene on drums.

Their mission from day one was beautifully simple: make an absolutely gigantic wall of noise using the bare minimum.

And judging by what theyโ€™ve unleashed so far, theyโ€™ve bloody well managed it.

๐Ÿ’€ TWO PEOPLE. MASSIVE SOUND.

SWAMPFOOT arenโ€™t interested in sounding like a stripped-down version of a conventional band.

Theyโ€™re interested in making you wonder where the hell the rest of the musicians are hiding.

In July 2025, Hodson and Greene headed into Mystery Ton Studios with producer Kenny Eaton of Teen Mortgage, determined to discover just how much sonic destruction could be squeezed from a single bass guitar and drum kit.

The answer?

Quite a lot, apparently.

Rather than simply plugging the bass into an amp and hoping for the best, SWAMPFOOT went properly down the rabbit hole.

Using signal splitters, stompboxes and boutique amplifiers dating back to the 1960s and โ€™70s, they sculpted the bass into something capable of filling the space normally occupied by multiple instruments.

Crushing guitar-like tones sit alongside thunderous low-end rumble, creating a sound considerably larger than youโ€™d expect from two musicians.

And instead of polishing everything until it sounded surgically perfect, the band embraced the rawness.

The record was captured with a strong emphasis on analogue character, while Greeneโ€™s drums were tracked live to retain the energy and physical punch of an actual band hammering away in a room.

Throw Hodsonโ€™s vocals into the equation โ€” singing, shouting and generally sounding like heโ€™s got unfinished business with civilisation โ€” recorded through a Telefunken U47, and youโ€™ve got the foundations of SWAMPFOOT.

Itโ€™s dirty.

Itโ€™s aggressive.

Itโ€™s enormous.

Exactly how hardcore punk should feel.

๐Ÿ”ฅ โ€œNO MATTER WHATโ€

SWAMPFOOT introduced themselves with debut single โ€œNo Matter Whatโ€, and their own description might be one of our favourite genre explanations weโ€™ve heard in ages.

Imagine System of a Down having a fist fight with the Beastie Boys while Rick Astley films the whole thing on his iPhone.

Yeah.

Weโ€™re listening. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Itโ€™s the sort of gloriously bizarre combination that tells you plenty about SWAMPFOOTโ€™s mentality.

Thereโ€™s aggression here, certainly, but thereโ€™s also personality.

Rather than becoming another po-faced heavy band determined to prove how incredibly serious everything is, SWAMPFOOT have an unmistakable sense of character behind the chaos.

And when youโ€™ve only got two musicians, character matters.

There is nowhere to hide.

๐Ÿค˜ โ€œMASTER PLANโ€

The bandโ€™s second single, โ€œMaster Planโ€, pushes things into even heavier territory.

Lyrically, the track takes aim at the idea of a manufactured existence, questioning whether societyโ€™s structures are deliberately constructed by powerful elites to keep ordinary people obedient and under control.

Musically?

SWAMPFOOT donโ€™t exactly whisper their concerns politely over a cup of tea.

Instead, โ€œMaster Planโ€ comes charging through the front door armed with rapid old-school thrash-inspired riffing, blistering drums, infectious vocals and a breakdown designed to test the structural integrity of whatever building youโ€™re standing inside.

Remember:

Thereโ€™s still no guitarist.

Those monstrous riffs?

Bass.

That disgusting low-end?

Bass.

That noise making you check whether your speakers have exploded?

Probably bass again.

Itโ€™s an impressive demonstration of what can happen when musicians stop worrying about what their instruments are supposed to do and start asking what they can make them do.

๐Ÿฅ NO STUDIO TRICKERY REQUIRED

The really interesting part comes when SWAMPFOOT step onto a stage.

Plenty of bands can create enormous studio productions using layers upon layers of instruments, overdubs and digital wizardry.

Recreating that monster live can be another story entirely.

SWAMPFOOT insist their live performances remain 100% authentic to the sound captured on record.

No secret guitarist hiding behind the curtain.

No twelve-piece backing band emerging from underneath the drum riser.

No bloke called Dave backstage desperately pressing play on 48 tracks of Pro Tools.

Just Cliff Hodson and Jordan Greene doing exactly what SWAMPFOOT were designed to do.

Make noise.

Lots of it.

The simplicity is part of the appeal.

Two musicians have to occupy every inch of sonic space available, and that naturally creates a frantic, physical energy perfectly suited to hardcore punk.

You can already imagine it in a sweaty little venue โ€” Greene absolutely battering the kit while Hodsonโ€™s bass sounds like somebody has started a chainsaw inside a fridge.

Lovely stuff.

๐Ÿ’ฅ SWAMPFOOT ARE JUST GETTING STARTED

Whatโ€™s particularly exciting is how early we are in the SWAMPFOOT story.

Formed only in 2025, the duo have already established a clear identity: hardcore punk aggression, flashes of thrash, massive distorted bass tones, live drums and enough attitude to power a small American town.

Thereโ€™s something brilliantly refreshing about a band taking such a limited setup and refusing to treat those limitations as limitations at all.

No guitarist?

Fine.

Weโ€™ll make the bass sound like one.

Only two musicians?

Fine.

Weโ€™ll make enough noise for six.

SWAMPFOOTโ€™s whole approach feels built around finding out just how far two people can push things before somebody from the venue appears carrying a decibel meter and looking deeply concerned.

And weโ€™re absolutely here for it.

๐ŸŽธ THE RIFF REPORT VERDICT

SWAMPFOOT arenโ€™t trying to reinvent heavy music with a million moving parts.

Theyโ€™re doing almost the opposite.

Theyโ€™re stripping everything back to its foundations โ€” rhythm, distortion, aggression and attitude โ€” then turning every available knob clockwise until something starts smoking.

Cliff Hodson and Jordan Greene have created a band where the lack of conventional instrumentation becomes part of the identity rather than something that needs compensating for.

The result is punk thatโ€™s raw, thrashy, ridiculously heavy and refreshingly uncomplicated.

Two dudes.

One bass.

One drum kit.

One monstrous sack of noise.

What more do you bloody need? ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ”ฅ

Welcome to SWAMPFOOT.

Keep an eye on these two, butt.

Something tells us the swampโ€™s only just beginning to stir. ๐Ÿ’€๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ”ฅ
