January in Porthcawl normally means cold sea air, winter coats and sensible people remaining somewhere warm.
Planet Rock clearly had other ideas.
Planet Rockโs Winterโs End returns to Trecco Bay Holiday Park from Thursday 28 to Sunday 31 January 2027, bringing four days of rock โnโ roll to the South Wales coast for a very special 10th-anniversary celebration.
And this one is particularly tidy for us here at The Riff Report.
It’s happening right here in Cymru. ๐
For four days, Trecco Bay will swap ordinary holiday-park life for guitars, leather jackets, rock fans, packed venues and enough riffs to keep the January chill firmly outside.
No muddy festival fields.
No tents.
No attempting to cook breakfast on a camping stove during a gale.
Instead, you’ve got proper accommodation, indoor stages, bars and a full weekend of live music.
Winter festival civilisation.
๐ Ten Years Of Winterโs End
Planet Rock launched Winterโs End back in 2017, creating a festival designed to break up the long winter wait between Christmas and the traditional summer rock calendar.
The idea was simple.
Why wait until June for festival season?
Stick a load of rock bands into a holiday park in January and get on with it.
Turns out people rather liked the idea.
Over the years, Winterโs End has welcomed a huge range of artists from across classic rock, modern hard rock, blues and the grassroots circuit.
Previous performers have included the likes of Those Damn Crows, Massive Wagons, The Temperance Movement, Bernie Marsden, Adrian Smith & Richie Kotzen, The Quireboys, Elles Bailey, Sophie Lloyd, Kris Barras Band and many more.
Now the festival reaches its tenth anniversary with another packed weekend beside the Welsh seaside.
And several 2027 artists have a direct connection to Winterโs End history.
Very fitting.

The first 20 artists have already been announced.

And with the festival still several months away, there’s plenty of opportunity for more announcements and additional weekend information.
๐จ๐ฆ Friday โ Bywater Call Headline
Friday night belongs to Bywater Call.
The Canadian roots-rock outfit have built a serious reputation on the UK live circuit through their blend of blues, soul, rock โnโ roll and powerhouse vocals.
After making a big impression on Planet Rock audiences elsewhere, they’ll make their first Winterโs End appearance in 2027 โ and they’re going straight into the headline slot.
Expect huge vocals.
Serious musicianship.
Soulful grooves.
And exactly the sort of band capable of turning a holiday-park venue into one enormous rock โnโ roll club.
๐ฅ Saturday โ Stone Broken Return
Saturday night brings Stone Broken back into the Winterโs End story.
And there’s a nice bit of symmetry here.
The Walsall rockers appeared at the very first Winterโs End in 2017.
Ten years later?
They’re returning to headline the anniversary edition.
Even better, their 2027 Winterโs End appearance is being treated as a special one-off performance while the band remain on touring hiatus.
That makes this considerably more than another festival slot.
For Stone Broken fans, it could be one of the weekend’s biggest moments.
๐ค Sunday โ The Answer Close The Festival
Northern Ireland’s The Answer will close Winterโs End on Sunday night.
And they’re another band bringing the festival full circle.
The Answer performed at the inaugural Winterโs End back in 2017 and return ten years later for an exclusive one-off performance.
Anyone who’s seen The Answer live already knows what to expect.
Huge classic-rock energy.
Massive vocals.
Bluesy guitars.
A frontman who knows exactly how to work a crowd.
And the sort of Sunday-night set designed to squeeze the final remaining energy out of everyone before reality returns on Monday morning.
๐ Scarlet Rebels Fly The Welsh Flag
There had better be some Welsh rock on the bill.
And thankfully there is.
Scarlet Rebels will take the special-guest slot on Thursday evening.
The Llanelli rockers have spent years steadily climbing the British rock ladder through albums, relentless touring and increasingly impressive festival appearances.
Seeing them playing a major role at a Planet Rock event on home soil feels absolutely right.
Welsh festival.
Welsh band.
Welsh crowd contingent.
Expect noise.
Lots of it.
Cymru am byth. ๐
โ ๏ธ Phil Campbellโs Bastard Sons
Another particularly significant Welsh connection comes from Phil Campbellโs Bastard Sons.
The band continue to celebrate the incredible legacy of Motรถrhead guitarist Phil Campbell, bringing that unmistakable hard-rock attitude into a new generation.
With Phil’s musical history stretching from some of the loudest stages on earth to his roots here in Wales, their Winterโs End appearance adds another cracking dose of Cymru to the weekend.
And let’s be fair.
A rock festival without at least a little Motรถrhead-related DNA feels fundamentally incomplete.
๐ญ Ward XVI Bring The Theatre
Ward XVI should provide something rather different.
The theatrical horror-metal outfit have built a reputation for performances that blur the line between concert and stage show.
Costumes.
Characters.
Storytelling.
Heavy riffs.
And enough visual chaos to make wandering into their set without any prior knowledge a potentially confusing experience.
Which is exactly why you should do it.
Festivals are better when something catches you completely off guard.
๐ถ Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse
Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse bring blues, roots, soul and rock โnโ roll into the Winterโs End mix.
Their live reputation makes them exactly the type of band suited to a smaller, indoor festival environment where performers can properly connect with the crowd.
Winterโs End works best when its bill stretches beyond one narrow flavour of rock.
This is one of those bookings that should add colour to the weekend.
๐ฅ Dan Byrne
Powerhouse vocalist Dan Byrne also returns to Planet Rock territory.
His modern melodic hard-rock sound has been steadily gaining momentum, and Winterโs End offers another opportunity to get in front of an audience that actively supports rising British rock artists.
That’s one of the best things about these Planet Rock events.
Major names are important.
But they’re sharing the weekend with artists still climbing.
๐ธ Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast
North Carolina’s Caitlin Krisko & The Broadcast bring a huge blues-rock voice across the Atlantic for the anniversary weekend.
Their mixture of American roots, blues and modern rock gives Winterโs End another international dimension.
And if you’ve never seen them?
Excellent.
Put them on the discovery list.
๐ฑ Discover Your Next Favourite Band
That’s one of the golden rules of Winterโs End.
Watch the bands you don’t know.
You’re staying on site.
You’re already there.
There’s absolutely no reason to spend half the weekend sitting in the caravan because you only recognise three names on the poster.
Get into the venue early.
Watch something unfamiliar.
Take a chance.
Maybe it’s LN.
Maybe it’s Dead Writers.
Maybe Black Dog Moon completely catches you off guard.
Maybe Wood Burnt Red ends up living permanently in your playlists afterwards.
That’s how grassroots scenes grow.
And it remains one of the biggest advantages smaller festivals have over enormous stadium-scale events.
๐๏ธ Rock โNโ Roll In Porthcawl
Winterโs End takes place at Trecco Bay Holiday Park in Porthcawl, right on the South Wales coast.
Anyone familiar with Planet Rockstock will already know the setup.
Holiday accommodation.
Indoor live-music spaces.
Bars.
Food.
Festival-goers everywhere.
And the beach only a short wander away.
Porthcawl is already one of Wales’ best-known seaside towns, but when Planet Rock arrives?
Things get substantially louder.
January obviously isn’t peak sunbathing weather.
Unless you’re extremely committed.
But a winter walk beside the sea before several hours of rock โnโ roll?
Not bad at all.
๐ Stay At Trecco Bay
One of Winterโs End’s biggest attractions is the ability to stay directly at the event.
Rather than trudging back to a tent after the final band, accommodation packages put you inside Trecco Bay Holiday Park for the weekend.
And yes.
That means:
Actual beds.
Actual walls.
Heating.
A proper bathroom.
A kitchen.
Maybe even a cup of tea before the first band.
Absolute festival decadence.
๐ฅ Gold Accommodation
Gold accommodation represents the premium standard holiday-park package.
Demand has already been huge, with the main Gold allocation selling out quickly.
Gold packages include access across all four festival days and have included anniversary extras such as an event T-shirt.
Some specialist accessible options may have separate availability, but general Gold accommodation should currently be treated as effectively sold out.
๐ฅ Silver Accommodation
Silver packages provide another upgraded accommodation option and include all four days of Winterโs End.
Different unit sizes are available depending on group numbers and current availability.
If you’re heading down with the regular gig crew, sharing accommodation can make the weekend considerably more economical per person.
And infinitely more entertaining.
Although whoever snores loudest should probably be identified before bedroom allocation.
๐ฅ Bronze Accommodation
Bronze accommodation gives festival-goers more flexibility.
Packages are available with either:
Thursday arrival for four days
or
Friday arrival for three days
Different two-bedroom and three-bedroom units are available depending on group size.
As allocations sell, availability between different caravan sizes will change.
So if you’ve got a specific number in your group?
Don’t leave booking until everybody has spent three months saying:
โYeah, I’m definitely coming.โ
Get commitments.
Book it.
Then chase them for money like every festival organiser within a friend group has done since the dawn of time.
๐๏ธ Non-Accommodation Tickets
Already live in or around South Wales?
Or fancy booking your own hotel?
Non-accommodation weekend tickets are also available.
Options include both three-day and four-day admission.
That makes Winterโs End considerably more accessible for local fans who don’t necessarily need a caravan at Trecco Bay.
And for anyone based in Wales?
No accommodation package means more ticket money left for merch.
Dangerous.
๐ณ Payment Plans
Winterโs End also offers payment-plan tickets, allowing festival-goers to spread accommodation and admission costs.
For multi-day events, that’s genuinely useful.
Especially when you’re organising several festivals across the same year and your bank account has started asking extremely reasonable questions about your priorities.
Rock festivals first.
Financial responsibility second.
Within reason.
๐ Strictly 18+
Unlike some festivals in The Riff Report calendar, Winterโs End is strictly an over-18s event.
That means no children’s tickets and no family camping considerations.
This is very much an adults-only rock weekender.
Which probably explains why the bars remain quite busy.
๐ช Seating & Medical Requirements
Winterโs End is primarily a standing event.
Limited seating can be arranged for festival-goers who have a qualifying medical requirement, but space is restricted.
Anyone who needs seating or other assistance should contact the event team ahead of the weekend rather than arriving and hoping arrangements can be made on the spot.
Planning early saves a lot of stress later.
โฟ Accessibility
Trecco Bay offers accessible accommodation options and festival support for customers with additional requirements.
Because availability for adapted accommodation can be limited, anyone needing specific facilities should contact the organisers as early as possible.
The same applies to seating and viewing requirements.
January may seem a long way away.
Accessible accommodation can disappear considerably faster than January arrives.
๐ Food & Drink
Trecco Bay has food and drink facilities throughout the holiday park, while the event itself provides bars for festival-goers.
One huge advantage of staying in a caravan?
You’ve also got your own kitchen.
Breakfast without queuing.
Tea whenever you want.
Emergency post-gig toast.
Possibly the finest luxury known to festival humanity.
Personal food and drinks should remain inside accommodation unless venue rules specifically permit otherwise.
๐ Protect Your Hearing
Four days of indoor rock music means serious sound exposure.
So:
Wear earplugs.
Modern filtered concert plugs bring volume down without ruining the clarity of the music.
You want to hear Stone Broken.
You want to hear The Answer.
And ideally, you’d still like to hear things when Planet Rock announces Winterโs End 2037.
Protect those lugholes.
๐ป Planet Rock โ Where Rock Lives
Winterโs End is organised by Planet Rock, one of Britain’s biggest dedicated rock radio brands.
That connection gives the festival a very particular atmosphere.
Planet Rock presenters are part of the weekend.
Bands regularly have strong relationships with the station.
Listeners who interact throughout the year suddenly end up standing beside one another at the bar.
It’s less like attending a random festival and more like Planet Rock’s wider community temporarily moving into a Welsh holiday park.
Which is probably why so many people come back.

๐ A Proper Welsh Rock Weekend
For The Riff Report, there’s another reason this one deserves a big circle in the calendar.
It’s another major rock event happening right here in South Wales.
Porthcawl has already become firmly connected with Planet Rock through Rockstock, and Winterโs End gives the Welsh coast another big weekend of live music.
Local businesses benefit.
Hotels and holiday accommodation fill.
Rock fans travel into Cymru from across Britain.
Welsh bands get represented.
And Porthcawl spends four days full of leather jackets and guitar riffs.
We’ll happily take that.
๐ฅ Why Winterโs End Belongs On The Calendar
Winter festivals hit differently.
There isn’t another six-week stretch of events immediately waiting around the corner.
It’s January.
Christmas is finished.
The weather is miserable.
Everybody’s back at work.
Then suddenly:
Four days of rock beside the Welsh seaside.
That’s a pretty effective cure for the winter blues.
Add the tenth anniversary, several exclusive performances, strong Welsh representation and a line-up mixing established names with rising talent, and Winterโs End 2027 is shaping up to be a cracking start to the rock calendar.
So get 28โ31 January 2027 firmly into the diary.
Sort the accommodation.
Get the festival crew together.
Find the warmest band hoodie you’ve got.
And prepare for four days of rock โnโ roll beside the sea.
โ๏ธ Four days.
๐ South Wales.
๐ธ 20 bands already announced.
๐ No tents required.
๐ฅ Exclusive performances.
๐บ One giant winter rock gathering.
