94,000 Metalheads. One Stadium. Absolute Chaos.
Just when you thought Metallica couldn’t get any bigger, the metal legends have gone and smashed another attendance record on their colossal M72 World Tour.
Fresh from setting a new record in Athens earlier this year, Metallica rolled into Berlin and turned the city’s iconic Olympiastadion into the biggest heavy metal gathering Germany has ever seen.
The result?
A staggering 94,000 fans packed into the venue, making it the largest concert ever held at Berlin’s Olympiastadion and officially breaking the previous record set by U2 back in 2009.
Not bad for a band that’s been melting faces since the early ’80s.
Metallica’s M72 Tour Is Becoming A Record-Breaking Monster
The M72 World Tour has already been one of the biggest rock and metal tours ever assembled.
Featuring the band’s unique in-the-round stage setup, multiple massive video towers, rotating setlists and enough pyrotechnics to light up half of Europe, Metallica have somehow managed to keep getting bigger despite already being one of the biggest bands on the planet.
Earlier in May, Metallica set a new attendance record at the Athens Olympic Stadium when approximately 90,000 fans turned out to witness the metal giants in action.
Now Berlin has joined the list.
At this rate, stadium managers across Europe are probably checking their calculators and wondering if Metallica are about to break their records too.
Berlin Turns Into Metal City For One Night
The atmosphere inside Olympiastadion was reportedly electric from the moment gates opened.
Thousands of fans travelled from across Germany and beyond to witness one of the biggest events of the summer, creating a sea of black band shirts stretching as far as the eye could see.
From lifelong fans who bought Kill ‘Em All on release day to younger metalheads discovering the band through Stranger Things and TikTok, generations came together for one massive celebration of heavy music.
And when Metallica hit the stage?
All hell broke loose.
Songs like Master of Puppets, One, Seek & Destroy, Nothing Else Matters, and Enter Sandman transformed the stadium into one giant singalong.
Imagine 94,000 people screaming every word back at James Hetfield.
That’s not a concert.
That’s a movement.
Bigger Than U2
Before Metallica stormed Berlin, the attendance record at Olympiastadion belonged to U2, who drew over 90,000 fans during their famous 360° Tour.
Metallica’s innovative M72 stage configuration allowed even more fans access to the show, helping them push beyond that previous benchmark and set a new all-time venue record.
It’s another reminder that heavy metal isn’t some niche underground scene anymore.
It’s stadium-sized.
It’s global.
And Metallica remain its undisputed kings.
Forty-Five Years Later And They’re Still Untouchable
Perhaps the most impressive thing about this achievement is that Metallica aren’t a new band riding a wave of hype.
They’re over four decades into their career.
Most bands are happy to still be touring after forty years.
Metallica are still selling out stadiums, topping charts, headlining festivals and setting attendance records around the world.
That kind of longevity doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s built on legendary songs, relentless touring, loyal fans and a catalogue that continues to inspire generation after generation.
Whether you’ve been following them since the Bay Area thrash scene or you’ve only recently discovered them, there’s no denying the impact Metallica continue to have on the rock and metal world.
What’s Next?
With the M72 World Tour still rolling across Europe and beyond, there could be even more records waiting to fall.
Athens? Conquered.
Berlin? Conquered.
Who’s next?
One thing’s for certain: if Metallica are coming to your city, don’t expect a normal concert.
Expect history.
The Riff Report Verdict 🎸
Metallica aren’t just playing stadiums anymore.
They’re rewriting the record books one city at a time.
94,000 fans in Berlin.
Another attendance record destroyed.
Another reminder that heavy metal remains one of the most powerful forces in live music.
And somewhere in Germany, 94,000 sore throats are waking up the next morning knowing they witnessed something special.
Proper job, Metallica. 🤘🔥
