Today marks 24 years since the rock and metal world lost Dave Williams, the original frontman of Drowning Pool — a vocalist whose time with the band was painfully short, but whose impact still rattles speakers to this day.
Dave Williams died on 14 August 2002, aged just 30 years old, while Drowning Pool were touring as part of Ozzfest.
He was found on the band’s tour bus in Manassas, Virginia, turning what should have been another night on one of heavy music’s biggest travelling festivals into an unimaginable tragedy.
An autopsy later determined that Williams had died from heart failure caused by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that had remained undiagnosed throughout his life.

Drowning Pool arrived at exactly the right moment.
Heavy music at the beginning of the 2000s was absolutely booming.
