Well then. Just when you think Iron Maiden have seen everything across five decades of galloping basslines, giant Eddies, air-raid vocals and crowds screaming like theyโ€™ve just been handed a free pint, Paris goes and throws a power cut into the setlist.

Iron Maidenโ€™s huge show at Paris La Dรฉfense Arena on Monday 22 June 2026 was cut short after a major power outage stopped the concert for around an hour โ€” and to make the whole thing even more dramatic, the gig was being professionally filmed for a future live release.

Thatโ€™s right, mun. Cameras rolling. Crowd roaring. Maiden in full flight. Then suddenlyโ€ฆ darkness.

Some gigs get pyro. Some gigs get confetti. Paris got a full-blown โ€œwho forgot to pay the electric bill?โ€ moment.

๐Ÿ”Œ The Night The Power Went Out

The show was around 50 minutes in when disaster struck. Iron Maiden were tearing through โ€œ2 Minutes To Midnightโ€ when a total power cut brought the performance to a halt.

You could not script it better if Eddie himself was sat backstage with a typewriter and a wicked sense of humour.

There they were, deep into one of their most iconic tracks, the crowd locked in, the production roaring, the cameras capturing what was supposed to be a massive live concert momentโ€ฆ and then the plug got pulled harder than a dodgy amp at a valleys battle of the bands.

The band were forced off while the situation was sorted, with fans left waiting inside the arena as the outage dragged on for roughly an hour.

๐ŸŽฅ A Filmed Show With Maximum Chaos

This was not just another night on the Run For Your Lives tour. This Paris date had extra weight behind it because Iron Maiden had returned to La Dรฉfense Arena specifically to film the show for a future release.

Paris was meant to be the big one. The polished one. The โ€œstick this on the shelf next to the classic Maiden live releasesโ€ one.

The venue made sense on paper: huge indoor arena, massive crowd, controlled environment, thunderous atmosphere, and a French fanbase that knows how to lose its collective mind when Maiden hit the stage.

But heavy metal has never been about things going neatly to plan, has it?

Instead of a perfectly smooth concert film, Maiden now have one of the most bizarre live release stories imaginable: a filmed show where the lights went out, the crowd waited, the band came back, and the whole thing turned into a battle between metal, heat, curfew and electricity.

Honestly? That might make it even more legendary.

๐Ÿ“ต Phone-Free, But Not Drama-Free

To protect the filming, the Paris show was also run with a phone-free setup in parts of the arena, with Yondr pouches used to stop fans recording the performance.

The idea was simple: keep phones away, let the cameras capture the proper live experience, and give future viewers a clean, old-school concert film without thousands of glowing screens blocking the magic.

And fair play โ€” that is very Maiden.

No distractions. No endless filming. Just fans watching the band with their actual eyeballs like itโ€™s 1988 and everyoneโ€™s got denim jackets, sore necks and questionable hair.

But then the universe clearly looked at that plan and said, โ€œNice idea, ladsโ€ฆ now letโ€™s turn off the power.โ€

๐Ÿฅต Heat, Waiting And A Brutal Curfew

As if the outage was not bad enough, Paris was also dealing with extreme heat. With the arena air conditioning affected during the power cut, conditions inside reportedly became seriously uncomfortable.

Imagine it: thousands of Maiden fans packed into a massive indoor venue, already warm from screaming along, then the air con drops out and everyoneโ€™s stood there wondering whether theyโ€™re at a concert or being slow-cooked like a festival pasty.

Proper sweaty scenes, butt.

Once the power returned, the band did what Iron Maiden do best โ€” they got back on stage and carried on.

They resumed with โ€œRime Of The Ancient Marinerโ€, which is about as epic a comeback choice as you can get. Most bands might ease back in gently. Maiden went straight for a massive sea monster of a track and said, โ€œRight then, where were we?โ€

But there was one big problem: curfew.

The show had already lost around an hour, and despite an extension, there simply was not enough time to play the full planned set. That meant the encore had to be dropped.

๐Ÿ˜ญ The Missing Encore

The three songs fans missed were:

  • Aces High
  • Fear Of The Dark
  • Wasted Years

Oof.

That is not just any encore. That is a full emotional damage package.

No โ€œAces Highโ€ to send the place into RAF mode.
No โ€œFear Of The Darkโ€ for that massive crowd chant that turns every arena into one giant haunted choir.
No โ€œWasted Yearsโ€ to close things out with arms in the air and feelings absolutely everywhere.

For fans who had travelled, spent serious money, queued, sweated through the heat and waited patiently during the outage, that must have been gutting.

And yet, from all accounts, the Paris crowd stuck with the band and gave them the kind of support only a proper Maiden crowd can deliver.

๐Ÿค˜ Maiden Battle On

After returning to the stage, Maiden powered through what they could and finished the main set with โ€œIron Maiden.โ€

There is something weirdly perfect about that.

A power cut tries to wreck the night.
The heat turns the arena into Satanโ€™s airing cupboard.
The curfew chops the encore.
And Maiden still end by blasting out the song that carries the bandโ€™s name like a war flag.

That is proper heavy metal stubbornness.

The reported setlist still included a serious run of classics, with โ€œMurders In The Rue Morgue,โ€ โ€œWrathchild,โ€ โ€œKillers,โ€ โ€œPhantom Of The Opera,โ€ โ€œThe Number Of The Beast,โ€ โ€œInfinite Dreams,โ€ โ€œPowerslave,โ€ โ€œ2 Minutes To Midnight,โ€ โ€œRime Of The Ancient Mariner,โ€ โ€œRun To The Hills,โ€ โ€œSeventh Son Of A Seventh Son,โ€ โ€œThe Trooper,โ€ โ€œHallowed Be Thy Nameโ€ and โ€œIron Maiden.โ€

So yes, the show was shortened. Yes, the encore loss hurts. But that is still an absolute monster of a setlist.

๐ŸŽฌ What Happens To The Live Release Now?

That is the big question.

With the Paris show filmed for a future live release, fans will now be wondering how Maiden handle the outage in the final product.

Do they edit around it?
Do they include the chaos as part of the story?
Do they use footage from elsewhere to cover the missing encore?
Do we get a glorious chapter called โ€œEddie Versus The Fuse Boxโ€?

Nobody knows yet, but honestly, there is a strange magic to live music when things go wrong and the band still finds a way through.

Some live albums and concert films become legendary because everything goes perfectly.

Others become legendary because everything goes sideways and the band proves exactly why they are still giants.

This could be one of those moments.

๐Ÿงจ The Riff Report Verdict

Was this frustrating for fans? Absolutely.

Was it Maidenโ€™s fault? From what has been reported so far, no.

Was it one of the strangest Iron Maiden nights in recent memory? Oh, 100%.

The Paris crowd deserved the full show, and missing an encore of โ€œAces High,โ€ โ€œFear Of The Darkโ€ and โ€œWasted Yearsโ€ is enough to make any Maiden fan stare into the distance like theyโ€™ve just dropped their chips in the mud at Download.

But the fact that the band came back, battled through the conditions, finished the main set and still gave fans a night they will never forget says everything about Iron Maiden.

Power cut or not, the spirit stayed switched on.

And if this footage does make it into the future live release, Paris might not just be remembered as the night the lights went out.

It might be remembered as the night Iron Maiden proved, once again, that even when the electricity diesโ€ฆ

Eddie lives.

Up the Irons.
Up the fans.
And someone please get that arena a generator the size of Wales. ๐Ÿค˜โšก๐Ÿ”ฅ

Michael

๐ŸŽธ About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise โ€” it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publicationโ€™s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist โ€” sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
