NEUROSIS are properly back โ and one of heavy musicโs most influential bands is taking its return to the stage into 2026 and 2027.
Following the release of their first studio album in a decade, An Undying Love For A Burning World, the Oakland post-metal pioneers have begun plotting further live activity, including hometown shows in San Francisco and a long-awaited European return at Roadburn Festival 2027.
For a band whose music has spent decades sounding like mountains collapsing in slow motion, this comeback is shaping up to be something pretty bloody special.
๐ค A New Chapter For Neurosis
An Undying Love For A Burning World arrived in March 2026, marking NEUROSISโ first new studio album for ten years and beginning a dramatically different chapter in the bandโs history.
The current incarnation features:
- Steve Von Till โ vocals/guitar
- Dave Edwardson โ bass
- Jason Roeder โ drums
- Noah Landis โ keyboards
- Aaron Turner โ guitar/vocals
Turner โ known for his work with SUMAC and ISIS โ joining the fold feels like a natural fit. His own musical history owes plenty to the kind of crushing, atmospheric heaviness NEUROSIS helped pioneer, so putting these musicians together is the sort of heavy-music collision that makes an awful lot of sense.
And now theyโre taking it onto the stage.

NEUROSIS are scheduled to perform two separate sets at Roadburn 2027, making their return to Europe even more substantial.
๐ฅ Back Where They Belong
NEUROSIS made their return to live performance at Fire In The Mountains in Montana in July 2026, their first concert in seven years.
The significance wasnโt lost on anybody.
This wasnโt simply another veteran band dusting off the amps for a nostalgia run. NEUROSIS returned with a new record, a changed line-up and seemingly a genuine desire to move forward.
And considering how much influence theyโve had on post-metal, sludge, doom, hardcore and experimental heavy music, seeing them active again is a pretty massive deal.
The bandโs influence can be heard throughout countless corners of modern heavy music, but thereโs still nothing quite like the original beast when those enormous riffs start crawling out of the speakers.
๐ช๐บ Roadburn 2027 Marks European Return
One of the biggest dates on the calendar is undoubtedly Roadburn Festival in Tilburg.
The April 2027 appearance will mark NEUROSISโ return to European stages, and frankly, itโs difficult to imagine a festival better suited to them.
Roadburn has spent years celebrating adventurous, experimental and boundary-smashing heavy music, while NEUROSIS have spent decades doing pretty much exactly that.
Even better, theyโre not simply turning up for a quick festival appearance.
Two NEUROSIS sets are planned for Roadburn 2027.
What those two performances will involve hasnโt yet been fully revealed, but thatโs certainly enough to get the riff radar flashing.
๐ฟ An Undying Love For A Burning World
The live dates arrive following NEUROSISโ surprise return with An Undying Love For A Burning World, released through Neurot Recordings on 20 March 2026.
The album contains eight tracks:
- We Are Torn Wide Open
- Mirror Deep
- First Red Rays
- Blind
- Seething And Scattered
- Untethered
- In The Waiting Hours
- Last Light
It was their first studio record since 2016 and signalled that the bandโs return wasnโt going to be built solely around revisiting the past.
Thereโs new music, a new configuration and now an expanding live schedule.
๐ค Could More Dates Be Coming?
Thatโs the big question.
At the moment, NEUROSISโ announced calendar remains relatively selective rather than resembling a massive conventional world tour.
But with the band returning to Europe for Roadburn in April 2027, plenty of fans will inevitably be wondering whether additional European dates could eventually appear around that festival appearance.
And yes, weโre looking at you, UK. ๐
Nothing further should be assumed until the band officially announces it, but after years when another NEUROSIS show seemed increasingly unlikely, simply having new dates appearing on the calendar again feels significant.
๐ The Riff Report Saysโฆ
NEUROSIS arenโt the sort of band that need pyrotechnics, confetti cannons or somebody flying over the audience on a massive inflatable dragon.
Give them amplifiers.
Give them darkness.
Give them a stage.
Then stand well back.
The return of NEUROSIS is one of the more fascinating heavy-music stories of 2026. A decade after their previous album and seven years after their last live performance, theyโre making new music and gradually stepping back onto stages.
With San Francisco coming in October and Roadburn Festival waiting in April 2027, the next chapter is officially underway.
Whether this develops into a much larger run of dates remains to be seen.
But one thingโs certain:
NEUROSIS are back, the amps are roaring again, and somewhere a venue ceiling is already looking nervous. ๐ค๐ฅ
Keep it loud. Keep it heavy. Keep supporting live music.
