⚔️ THE FINAL BATTLE: ESCAPING MALAHIDE CASTLE AFTER MAIDEN MELTDOWN

So, you’ve just screamed “SCREAM FOR ME DUBLIN!” with 20,000 other headbangers at the mighty Malahide Castle 🤘. Your voice is gone, your neck’s wrecked, and your ears are still ringing from “Hallowed Be Thy Name.” But now comes the true test of your metal mettle…

Getting home. 🏃‍♂️💨

Don’t worry, butt – we’ve got your back like a leather-clad roadie with duct tape. Here’s The Riff Report’s survival guide to escaping the madness, Irish style 🇮🇪🍀

🧭 FIRST: WHERE THE HELL IS MALAHIDE CASTLE?

Nestled in north County Dublin, Malahide Castle is lush, leafy… and slightly inconvenient after dark. It’s about 15km from Dublin City Centre – a beautiful spot for a gig, but a right mission when 20,000 fans all leg it for the same bus stop. 🏰🧟‍♀️

🚆 BY DART – THE ‘GET OUT OF JAIL FREE’ CARD

Your absolute best friend after the gig is the DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit). Malahide has its own station – only a 10–15 minute walk from the venue. 🎯

✅ Top Dart Tips:

  • Last Dart to Dublin Pearse Station is usually around 11:15PM–11:30PM 🕚 (confirm on the day via Irish Rail!)
  • Trains run roughly every 10–15 mins before that.
  • Buy your ticket in advance. Use the TFI Go app or grab a Leap Card. Don’t be the numpty stuck behind 800 people at the machine.
  • Expect queues after the gig – but they’re usually managed well with staff and barriers.

If you miss the last one, read on for your next desperate moves…

🚌 NIGHT BUSES & SHARED SHUTTLES – IF YOU’RE LUCKY OR LOADED

📍 Dublin Bus:

Sadly, no dedicated night bus runs directly from Malahide to the city centre. 😭

However, you might be able to grab the 42 bus if it’s still running – it stops in Malahide village and goes all the way to Talbot Street (near Connolly Station).

👉 Last one’s usually before 11PM, so don’t count on it after Maiden’s encore.

🚌 Shuttle Services:

Some gigs offer pre-booked private shuttle buses back to the city (especially for big names like Maiden). Check with:

  • Marathon Coaches
  • Express Bus
  • eventtravel.com

They often pick up just outside the Castle grounds and drop off near O’Connell Street or Heuston.

🚖 TAXIS & RIDESHARES – BRING A SECOND MORTGAGE 💸

🚕 Taxis from Malahide after a gig?

  • Like gold dust.
  • Be prepared for surge pricing that’ll make your wallet scream louder than Bruce Dickinson.
  • If you do manage to grab one, it’s about €25–€40 into the city centre depending on traffic (and driver mood).

🚗 Rideshare Apps:

  • Free Now and Bolt operate in Dublin.
  • Your odds? Low. Everyone’s fighting over the same three cars.

💡 Pro Tip: Walk 10–15 mins away from the castle before ordering. You’ll dodge the main crowd and have a better chance of getting picked up.

🚶‍♂️WALKING HOME – ONLY FOR THE BRAVE

Can you walk from Malahide to Dublin?

Technically, yes. Should you? Not unless you’re Bear Grylls in a Maiden tee.

It’s 15km+, takes 3+ hours, and you’ll be:

  • Knackered
  • Possibly lost
  • Deep in suburban roads with zero pavements

⚠️ We do not recommend this unless your night has gone epically sideways and you have a backup power bank, snacks, and zero dignity left.

🚗 DRIVING / PICK-UP ZONE – WARNING: GRIDLOCK AHEAD

If you’re being picked up:

  • Agree on a meet-up point well away from the venue (Malahide Village or Portmarnock is ideal).
  • The roads around the castle get choked with traffic and road closures.
  • There’s a designated event car park if you’re driving yourself, but getting out after the gig is a nightmare. Think Download Festival car park, but with more honking and less mud.

🧃POST-GIG RECHARGE – WHERE TO SOBER UP & GRAB GRUB

Still buzzing and not ready to head home?

  • Gibney’s of Malahide – legendary local pub, but expect a packed house post-show 🍻
  • Avoca Café in the castle grounds may still be open pre-gig – posh sarnies and snacks
  • Malahide Village has chip shops, off-licences, and late-night kebab spots for your post-metal munchies

🧠 FINAL TIPS TO AVOID THE MAIDEN MAYHEM:

  • Charge your phone fully before you go 🔋
  • Screenshot your transport options/tickets
  • Bring cash – ATMs can run dry
  • Pre-plan your exit route BEFORE the pints kick in
  • If staying overnight, book accommodation early – Malahide fills up fast!

🏁 THE COMEDOWN – BUT WORTH EVERY BLOODY STEP

Yeah, the walk’s long. The queues are brutal. Your legs are soup and your voice is shredded…

But you just saw Iron flippin’ Maiden rip Malahide Castle to bits under an Irish sunset. That’s worth a thousand midnight bus struggles. ⚔️🔥

Just remember, you’re not alone. Thousands of metalheads are stumbling with you through the night, humming “Fear of the Dark” like a drunken choir. 🎶

So pull up your battle vest, point to the stars, and scream one last time into the night:

“SCREEEAAAM FOR MEEE, DUBLIN!!!”
