“The Australian music industry is parasitic” – and they’re done 💔🔥
Well this one’s gone down like a dropped amp on concrete, butt.
Melbourne noise terrorists Private Function have announced they’re breaking up after nine years of beautiful chaos, sweat-drenched gigs, and zero-time-for-your-bullshit punk rock. And in classic Private Function fashion, they didn’t bow out quietly. They lit the fuse, lobbed the grenade, and walked away without looking back.
Their parting words? A blunt, venomous mic-drop:
“The Australian music industry is parasitic.”
No soft goodbye. No legacy victory lap. Just the truth as they see it, teeth bared.
NINE YEARS OF MAYHEM, NO APOLOGIES
For nearly a decade, Private Function carved a reputation as one of Australia’s most feral, unpredictable, and downright fun rock bands. They weren’t here to be polished. They weren’t here to be palatable. They were here to cause a scene.
Their live shows became legend.
Not gigs. Not concerts. Incidents.
Sweaty pits, limbs everywhere, crowd members wondering whether to dance, run, or simply accept their fate. If you’d seen them once, you’d tell everyone. If you’d seen them twice, you’d probably lost a shoe.
They thrived on chaos and treated industry rules like optional reading.
“PARASITIC” – A PARTING SHOT WITH PURPOSE
That final statement has already sparked debates across the scene, and honestly, that feels entirely on brand. Private Function never played nice with the system, and it sounds like the system never played nice with them either.
Burnout?
Disillusionment?
Years of graft for crumbs and promises?
Probably all of the above, mun.
Plenty of bands think it. Few say it out loud. Even fewer say it while slamming the door shut behind them.
A BAND THAT REFUSED TO BE TIDY
Private Function mattered because they reminded everyone what punk rock is supposed to feel like. Messy. Loud. Confrontational. Funny. Slightly dangerous.
They didn’t chase trends.
They didn’t sand down the edges.
They didn’t care if you “got it”.
They just played, screamed, and tore through venues like a gang of mates who’d discovered distortion and never looked back.
THE END OF THE LINE… BUT NOT THE LEGEND
Nine years. No compromises. No regrets.
Private Function leaves behind a trail of blown speakers, bruised ribs, and stories that start with, “You won’t believe what happened at this gig…”
They’re gone, but the impact sticks.
And the silence they leave behind is loud.
Crack a tin, turn something obnoxiously fast up to eleven, and raise one to a band that went out swinging 🍻🤘
What was your Private Function moment, butt? The wildest pit? The weirdest venue? Or the gig you still talk about like it was a religious experience?
