🔥 WHAT RELOAD BROUGHT TO THE TABLE
This album was the second punch of the Load era — the bluesy, rock ’n’ roll left-turn that had metalheads arguing harder than people fighting over who’s next at the bar in Merthyr.

1. Fuel
🔥 Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire!
The album doesn’t just start — it explodes. This is pure nitro-in-the-veins Metallica. A high-octane rocker custom-built for car chases, gym playlists, and accidentally driving 20mph faster than you meant to.
Verdict: A tidy, petrol-soaked anthem. Still melts faces live.
2. The Memory Remains
With Marianne Faithfull sounding like a ghost who smokes 40 a day (in the best way), this track drips with sleaze, swagger and burnout Hollywood vibes.
Verdict: Proper haunting. Proper groove. Proper job.
3. Devil’s Dance
A low-slung, slithering riff that sounds like it crawled out of the bayou with bad intentions. Hetfield’s vocals on this one? Filth.
Verdict: Slow, heavy, swamp-monster brilliance.
4. The Unforgiven II
The sequel nobody expected — and one that actually works. A reimagining of a beloved classic that hits with more country/Western dust and emotional grit.
Verdict: Underrated as hell. “Are you unforgiven too?” Still hits the feels, mun.
5. Better Than You
James going full cocky cowboy while Lars hammers out a stomping beat. This one later won them a Grammy, which still makes some fans tamping.
Verdict: Arrogant, loud, fun — classic ’90s Metallica.
6. Slither
Oooh, controversial one. It’s bluesy, bouncy, and very un-Metallica.
Verdict: Not for everyone, but the chorus is catchier than the flu in winter.
7. Carpe Diem Baby
A swaggering, blues-metal strut with Hetfield delivering one of his coolest vocal performances.
Verdict: Criminally slept on. Perfect for stomping around pretending you’re cooler than you are.
8. Bad Seed
Starts with coughing, ends with chaos. It’s crunchy, dirty, and sounds like it rolled around in the mud before being recorded.
Verdict: A nasty little groove monster — lush.
9. Where the Wild Things Are
Metallica enter fairy-tale territory with a dark, dreamy riffscape. This is Jason Newsted’s moment — he co-wrote it, and the vibe is pure night-time weirdness.
Verdict: Atmospheric, strange, and proper underrated.
10. Prince Charming
NOW WE’RE TALKING. This is the Load/Reload era at its most fun — party-metal swagger with a huge chorus and riffs that punch harder than a Valleys nightclub bouncer.
Verdict: So good it should’ve been a single. High energy, high chaos.
11. Low Man’s Lyric
Grab the tissues, mun. A violin, a hurdy-gurdy, and Hetfield pouring his heart out. It’s raw, sad, and beautiful.
Verdict: Devastating. A proper pint-in-hand emotional moment.
12. Attitude
A tough, punk-ish, straight-ahead rocker with a riff that feels like a headbutt.
Verdict: Solid filler, but still fun when blasted loud enough to annoy the neighbours.
13. Fixxxer
The cult classic. The deep cut. The closer that fans worship. Dark, moody, hypnotic — and live performances of this send the fanbase into meltdown.
Verdict: MASTERPIECE. The crown jewel of Reload.
🤘 THE LOAD/RELOAD ERA — GLORIOUS CHAOS
This was Metallica reinventing themselves — leather pants, eyeliner, cowboy boots, and tunes that confused your dad. Some fans hated it, some loved it, but everyone talked about it.
