On August 15, 2014, German heavy metal legends Accept unleashed their 14th studio album, Blind Rage — a record packed with crushing riffs, enormous choruses and enough old-school metal muscle to knock the doors off the venue. 🔥🎸
Twelve years later, it still hits like a runaway freight train.
And today, the big question being thrown out by The Metal Voice is a cracking one:

🔥 ACCEPT WERE ON A SERIOUS ROLL
By the time Blind Rage arrived, Accept had already successfully launched a whole new chapter in their career with Mark Tornillo on vocals.
The band had returned in spectacular fashion with Blood of the Nations in 2010 before following it up with Stalingrad in 2012.
Those albums proved one thing very quickly:
Accept weren’t interested in becoming a nostalgia act.
They still wanted to make new music.
They still wanted to tour.
And they still wanted to make amplifiers suffer.
Proper job, mun. 🤘
Blind Rage continued that momentum with a line-up featuring:
- Mark Tornillo — vocals
- Wolf Hoffmann — guitars
- Herman Frank — guitars
- Peter Baltes — bass
- Stefan Schwarzmann — drums
That is one seriously heavyweight metal line-up.
💥 “STAMPEDE” KICKS THE DOOR IN
The album wastes absolutely no time introducing itself.
Opening track “Stampede” does exactly what the title suggests.
It charges.
It stomps.
It flattens everything in front of it.
The guitars come tearing in with that unmistakable Accept crunch before Tornillo delivers one of those vocals that sounds like it’s been dragged through gravel, fire and approximately twelve crates of German lager.
It is classic Accept territory.
Big riffs.
Big drums.
Big gang vocals.
No messing about.
If Blind Rage were a pub, “Stampede” would be the bloke launching the front door into the car park.

⚡ “DYING BREED”
“Dying Breed” is basically Accept planting a flag for traditional heavy metal.
It has that unmistakable sense of defiance running through it.
This is music made by people who have watched trends come and go for decades and simply decided:
“Nah. We’ll keep playing heavy metal, thanks.”
And thank Lemmy they did.
The guitar work is huge, the chorus is tailor-made for fists in the air and it captures one of the reasons Accept have remained so loved by metal fans.
They believe in this stuff.
There is no irony.
No pretending.
Just riffs.
🖤 “DARK SIDE OF MY HEART”
“Dark Side of My Heart” brings a little more melody into proceedings without sacrificing the heaviness.
That’s one of the things Blind Rage does particularly well.
It never becomes one-dimensional.
You’ve got aggression.
You’ve got melody.
You’ve got slower, heavier moments.
You’ve got those towering Accept choruses.
And you’ve got enough guitar work to keep air-guitarists occupied for weeks.
👑 “FALL OF THE EMPIRE”
Then there’s “Fall of the Empire.”
This one feels bigger.
Slower.
More imposing.
Instead of simply racing forward, Accept allow the song to breathe, giving those massive riffs room to land properly.
Wolf Hoffmann has always understood one of heavy metal’s greatest truths:
Sometimes you don’t need fifty notes.
You just need one bloody good riff.
🔥 A MODERN ACCEPT CLASSIC?
One of the biggest strengths of Blind Rage is just how confident the whole thing sounds.
There’s no sense of a veteran band desperately trying to prove they can still compete.
Accept simply sound like Accept.
And that confidence is infectious.
By 2014, Mark Tornillo wasn’t simply “the new singer” anymore.
He had already fronted two hugely respected comeback albums and toured extensively with the band.
Blind Rage feels like the point where the Tornillo era stopped feeling new.
It simply became Accept.
🎚️ THE ANDY SNEAP FACTOR
Another major part of the modern Accept sound came courtesy of producer Andy Sneap.
His production gives Blind Rage that huge modern punch without stripping away the traditional heavy metal character.
The guitars are enormous.
The drums hit hard.
The bass carries plenty of weight.
And Tornillo’s vocals sit right at the front of the attack.
It’s polished, but not overly polished.
This still sounds like five blokes in a room making a glorious racket.
Which is exactly how heavy metal should feel.
🥇 A HUGE MOMENT FOR ACCEPT
Blind Rage also became a major commercial milestone for the band.
It reached number one in Germany, giving Accept a massive achievement decades into their career.
Think about that for a second.
A band whose history stretches back to the earliest days of European heavy metal scores a number-one album more than thirty years after becoming internationally famous.
That’s not nostalgia.
That’s staying power.
And it’s a massive testament to just how successful this period of Accept really was.
🎸 THE END OF AN ERA
There is another reason Blind Rage holds a special place in Accept history.
It was the band’s final studio album featuring guitarist Herman Frank and drummer Stefan Schwarzmann.
Both musicians left Accept in December 2014.
That means Blind Rage effectively serves as the final snapshot of that particular line-up.
And what a way to go out.
Frank’s guitar work alongside Wolf Hoffmann helped give this period of Accept a huge twin-guitar sound, while Schwarzmann’s drumming provided exactly the kind of solid backbone these tracks needed.
After their departure, Accept would move into another chapter.
But Blind Rage remains the final document of one seriously powerful version of the band.
⏳ SO… HOW HAS BLIND RAGE AGED?
Pretty bloody well.
Some albums are deeply tied to the production trends of the era in which they were made.
Blind Rage avoids much of that problem because Accept weren’t chasing trends in the first place.
They weren’t suddenly adding electronic breakdowns because somebody in a record-label meeting said they were popular.
They weren’t trying to sound twenty years younger.
They simply made an Accept album.
And because of that, the record still sounds wonderfully straightforward today.
Heavy guitars.
Huge choruses.
Strong songwriting.
Proper metal.
Simple.
Effective.
Lush.
🤘 WHERE DOES IT RANK IN THE TORNILLO ERA?
Now this is where the arguments start.

The Mark Tornillo era has produced a serious stack of material.
You’ve got:

Stalingrad

Humanoid
Ask five Accept fans to rank those albums and you could easily get five completely different lists.
For some, Blood of the Nations will always be untouchable because it announced Accept’s return so spectacularly.
Others might favour the darker atmosphere of Stalingrad.
But Blind Rage absolutely deserves to be part of that conversation.
It’s powerful.
It’s consistent.
And it captures Accept at a point where the modern incarnation of the band sounded completely comfortable in its own skin.
