Winter’s End is turning ten — and the first wave of bands for the 2027 anniversary edition has landed with all the subtlety of a guitar amp falling down the stairs.

The much-loved indoor rock festival will return to Trecco Bay Holiday Park in Porthcawl, South Wales, from 28th to 31st January 2027, bringing together another huge weekend of riffs, pints, friendships and glorious holiday-park chaos.

And because this is the festival’s 10th anniversary event, the organisers have clearly decided that going small was not an option.

The first announcement includes Bywater Call, The Answer, LN, Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse, Dan Byrne, Ward XVI, Black Orchid Empire, The Dust Coda, Winter In Eden and Dead Writers.

That is a tidy opening salvo, mun.

🎉 Ten Years of Winter’s End

For a full decade, Winter’s End has been helping rock fans survive the bleakest part of the year by replacing January misery with massive choruses, loud guitars and several days of questionable sleep.

The festival has carved out a special place in the UK rock calendar thanks to its intimate atmosphere, strong line-ups and the simple joy of being able to watch brilliant live music without having to pitch a tent in a field while horizontal rain attacks your face.

The 2027 edition will celebrate ten years of bands, fans, friendships and unforgettable performances.

This is not just another weekend away.

It is an anniversary knees-up with distortion pedals.

🔥 Bywater Call to Headline Friday

Canadian roots-rock powerhouse Bywater Call will headline the Friday night, bringing their soulful blend of blues, rock and Americana to Porthcawl.

The band have developed a fearsome reputation as a live act, combining powerhouse vocals, emotionally charged musicianship and the sort of grooves that make standing still completely impossible.

Their Winter’s End appearance promises to be one of the standout performances of the weekend, with the band perfectly suited to the festival’s passionate, close-knit atmosphere.

Expect soaring vocals, filthy guitar tones and enough soul to melt the January frost.

⚡ The Answer Close the Anniversary Weekend

Northern Irish rock favourites The Answer will headline Sunday, bringing the anniversary celebrations to a thunderous close.

Known for their huge riffs, blues-soaked swagger and arena-sized choruses, The Answer have long been one of the most dependable live bands in British and Irish rock.

Their appearance will be an exclusive one-off headline performance, making it an especially tasty booking for fans.

Closing the festival’s 10th anniversary with The Answer feels wonderfully appropriate.

Big songs. Big voices. Big emotional singalongs.

There may even be a few grown rock fans pretending they have something in their eye.

⚔️ LN Continue Their Rise

The Riff Report is especially excited to see LN included in the first announcement.

The Newcastle-based pagan and Viking metal band have been building a serious reputation thanks to their theatrical performances, thunderous riffs and dramatic mixture of soaring clean vocals and harsh growls.

After their storming appearance at Steelhouse Festival, LN now head into another major UK festival booking with momentum firmly behind them.

Their combination of folk elements, heavy guitars and full-blown battle-ready stage energy should make them one of the most distinctive acts of the entire weekend.

Expect war paint, atmosphere and enough heaviness to wake every caravan in Trecco Bay.

🎸 Beaux Gris Gris Bring the Apocalypse

Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse are also heading to Winter’s End, which means festival-goers should prepare themselves for one of the most unpredictable and energetic live shows on the circuit.

The band blend blues, rock, soul, funk and pure rock ’n’ roll chaos into performances that feel less like ordinary gigs and more like somebody has accidentally set fire to a travelling carnival.

Fronted by the magnetic Greta Valenti, Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse are packed with personality, musicianship and infectious energy.

They are fun, fierce and completely impossible to ignore.

Basically, perfect Winter’s End material.

🎤 Dan Byrne Joins the Party

Following a run of increasingly impressive live appearances, Dan Byrne will also feature at the 2027 festival.

Armed with a powerhouse voice and an ability to deliver emotional rock songs with serious weight, Byrne has quickly become one of the most exciting vocalists on the modern UK rock scene.

His performance is likely to deliver huge melodies, heartfelt moments and plenty of opportunities for the crowd to test their own vocal cords.

Possibly badly.

But that has never stopped us before.

🎭 Ward XVI Prepare to Unleash the Theatre

Things are set to get significantly darker when Ward XVI arrive at Trecco Bay.

Known for their theatrical horror-infused performances, elaborate costumes and dramatic storytelling, Ward XVI offer much more than a standard rock show.

Their sets are full-scale productions packed with sinister characters, heavy music and the sort of unsettling atmosphere that makes you wonder whether the person standing behind you is part of the performance.

They should provide one of the weekend’s most visually spectacular moments.

Lock the doors. Hide the sharp objects. Enjoy the show.

🔊 Black Orchid Empire Bring the Modern Heaviness

Black Orchid Empire will add another dose of modern hard rock to the anniversary line-up.

The band are known for combining chunky riffs, melodic hooks and progressive touches into a sound that feels both heavy and accessible.

Their appearance gives the festival another act capable of delivering a massive, high-energy performance while still packing their songs with depth and musicianship.

This one could get loud.

Very loud.

🌪 The Dust Coda Return with the Swagger

London hard-rockers The Dust Coda are another cracking addition to the first wave.

Blending classic-rock influences with modern firepower, the band have earned a loyal following through punchy songs, gritty vocals and no-nonsense live performances.

Their music carries the spirit of old-school rock without ever feeling like a museum piece.

Expect swagger, riffs and enough groove to send drinks wobbling across every nearby table.

❄️ Winter In Eden Add the Symphonic Drama

Winter In Eden will bring a more atmospheric edge to proceedings with their blend of symphonic rock, progressive elements and dramatic storytelling.

Their cinematic sound should provide a welcome contrast to some of the weekend’s grittier acts, adding sweeping melodies and emotional weight to the bill.

It is dramatic, powerful and tailor-made for fans who like their rock music with a little extra grandeur.

No dragons have been officially confirmed.

But it feels possible.

🖤 Dead Writers Complete the First Wave

Rounding out the first announcement are Dead Writers, a band bringing dark, moody rock with an unmistakable sense of style.

Their music carries shades of classic gothic rock, blues and vintage alternative sounds, creating a brooding atmosphere that should go down beautifully with the Winter’s End crowd.

They may not be the loudest name on the announcement, but they could easily become one of the weekend’s biggest discoveries.

🐉 A Huge Weekend for Welsh Rock Fans

With the event once again taking place at Trecco Bay Holiday Park in Porthcawl, Welsh rock fans have another major festival right on their doorstep.

And unlike the traditional British festival experience, Winter’s End offers the luxury of proper accommodation.

No tent poles.

No muddy sleeping bags.

No waking up at 5am because your tent has turned into a kite.

Just bands, bars, beds and the occasional late-night wander around the holiday park while somebody loudly debates the greatest rock album ever made.

That is civilisation, butt.

🤘 The First Wave Is Only the Beginning

The first line-up announcement already mixes blues rock, classic rock, modern hard rock, pagan metal, theatrical horror, symphonic sounds and plenty of straight-up rock ’n’ roll.

And this is only the beginning.

More bands are still to be announced, meaning the 10th anniversary edition could grow into one of the biggest Winter’s End weekends yet.

Bywater Call and The Answer provide two huge headliners, while LN, Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse, Dan Byrne, Ward XVI and the rest of the line-up offer plenty of depth, variety and excitement.

Winter’s End 2027 is already looking like the perfect cure for the January blues.

Turn up the guitars.

Stock the fridge.

Prepare the caravan.

Winter’s End is turning ten, and Porthcawl is about to get very, very loud.

Proudly Welsh. Proudly Loud. See you down the front, mun. 🤘🔥

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
