Brian May has spent decades producing enormous guitar solos, filling stadiums and helping Queen become one of the biggest bands ever to walk the planet.
Jeremy Clarkson, meanwhile, has spent recent years arguing with tractors, battling the British weather and discovering that running a farm is considerably more difficult than shouting “POWER!” while driving a supercar.
Now those two wonderfully different worlds have collided.
The Queen guitarist and passionate animal-welfare campaigner reportedly offered to help Clarkson after bovine tuberculosis struck the television presenter’s famous Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds.
Yes, you read that correctly, butt.

🐄 Trouble at Diddly Squat Farm
Clarkson revealed that his Oxfordshire farm had been affected by bovine tuberculosis, commonly known as bovine TB or bTB.
The disease is one of the most serious and emotionally devastating problems facing cattle farmers across Britain. When an animal tests positive, restrictions can be imposed on the affected farm, cattle movements may be stopped and infected animals can be slaughtered to prevent the disease spreading.
For farmers, the impact is not merely financial.
They may have raised the animals from birth, cared for them through difficult winters and built breeding programmes around particular members of the herd. Watching those animals being removed can be heartbreaking.
Clarkson said the outbreak had forced him to turn farm buildings into isolation areas, while restrictions prevented cattle from being bought or sold.
For a man whose farming programme is usually packed with broken machinery, planning battles and Kaleb Cooper questioning every decision he makes, this was a far more serious challenge.

In other words, it is not an argument easily settled by somebody yelling in a television studio or posting an angry message online.
Unfortunately, that has never stopped Britain before.
📺 May and Clarkson’s Previous Clash
The tension between May and Clarkson became particularly visible in August 2024, when the Queen guitarist promoted his BBC documentary examining bovine TB and questioning the effectiveness of badger culling.

Whether Clarkson accepts that assistance remains to be seen, but the offer itself represents a rare moment of cooperation in an argument normally dominated by raised voices and firmly divided camps.
🚜 Clarkson’s Accidental Farming Revolution
Whatever people think of Jeremy Clarkson, it is difficult to deny the impact Clarkson’s Farm has had on public awareness of British agriculture.
Before the programme launched, Clarkson was primarily known for fast cars, controversial opinions and deliberately winding people up for entertainment.
Then he bought a Lamborghini tractor far too large for the roads surrounding his farm and accidentally became one of the country’s loudest advocates for rural communities.
The programme has shown failed crops, livestock deaths, unpredictable weather, rising costs, planning regulations and the tiny margins on which many farms operate.
It has also introduced millions of viewers to the emotional side of farming.
Audiences have watched Clarkson celebrate successful births, mourn lost piglets and become attached to individual animals—including Pepper, the cow he famously refused to send for slaughter.
The comedy remains a huge part of the show, naturally. Watching Clarkson attempt a simple agricultural job while Kaleb slowly loses the will to live is television gold.
But behind the swearing, collapsing machinery and council meetings, the programme has repeatedly exposed how vulnerable farming businesses can be.
A single outbreak, storm, failed harvest or change in government policy can completely alter a farm’s future.
💔 The Real Cost of Bovine TB
Bovine TB is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium bovis and primarily affects cattle, although it can infect other mammals.
The disease is controlled through testing, movement restrictions, surveillance and the removal of infected animals. The process can leave farms under restrictions for extended periods, affecting sales, breeding plans and everyday operations.
Even when farmers receive compensation for slaughtered cattle, money cannot fully replace years of breeding work or the emotional connection built with an animal.
The uncertainty is another enormous strain.
Farmers can find themselves waiting for further test results while wondering how many animals may be affected and how long restrictions will remain in place.
Clarkson’s experience is therefore much bigger than one celebrity farm.
His enormous audience means the story could help more people understand a crisis that farming communities have been dealing with for years, frequently without the same media attention.
🤝 Could Rock and Farming Find Common Ground?
Brian May’s offer raises an important question.
Could two men with sharply different opinions actually work together to explore another approach?
May and the Save Me Trust believe better cattle testing and stronger biosecurity measures could help control bovine TB without relying on widespread badger culling.
Clarkson, meanwhile, has the farm, the cattle, the television audience and a reputation for putting difficult rural issues directly in front of millions of viewers.

The bovine TB debate has become so polarised that both sides often appear to be shouting past one another. Farmers feel ignored by campaigners who do not understand the realities of managing cattle, while wildlife advocates believe lethal control has been prioritised over alternative solutions.
Bringing those perspectives together—however awkwardly—could help move the conversation beyond insults and towards practical evidence.
🌿 More Than Just a Guitar Hero
Brian May’s wildlife campaigning is not a hobby he picked up between Queen tours.
The guitarist has dedicated a substantial part of his life to animal welfare and environmental causes. He has supported wildlife rescue projects, campaigned against hunting and used his public platform to challenge government policy.
May is also an astrophysicist, having completed his PhD decades after putting his studies on hold when Queen became rather inconveniently massive.

Not everybody agrees with his conclusions, particularly within the farming community, but few could accuse him of lacking commitment.

Just Brian May offering to help Jeremy Clarkson deal with a serious disease outbreak on a farm in the Cotswolds.
Yet beneath the slightly bonkers celebrity crossover sits something genuinely important.
Bovine TB causes huge financial and emotional damage to British farming. The debate surrounding badgers, testing and disease control has become bitter, political and deeply divided.
May and Clarkson have previously stood on opposite sides of that argument.
The fact that May’s organisation still reached out when Clarkson’s herd was affected shows that compassion does not have to disappear simply because two people disagree.
Whether Clarkson takes up the offer is another matter entirely.
