Judas Priest’s Rob Halford ‘Absolutely Gutted’ He’s Not Singing at Black Sabbath’s Final Gig 🤘😭

Well mun, talk about a heavy metal heartbreak! Rob Halford – the legendary Metal God himself – has admitted he’s absolutely gutted he won’t be taking to the mic at Black Sabbath’s upcoming “Back to the Beginning” farewell concert in Birmingham. 🏴🔥

For those who’ve forgotten their metal history (shame on you!), Halford already has Sabbath pedigree – he stepped in not once, but twice, to cover Ozzy Osbourne when the Prince of Darkness was out of action. The most famous stand-in moment? The 1992 Costa Mesa gig, where Halford tore through Sabbath classics like “Paranoid” and “Symptom of the Universe” with his trademark banshee scream. Proper goosebump stuff, butt! 🥶🎤

So naturally, when the final Sabbath show was announced – a full-circle Brum homecoming with Ozzy at the helm – Halford had his hopes high that he might make an appearance. A duet on “Heaven and Hell”? Trading lines on “Children of the Grave”? Even just backing vocals on “War Pigs”? Sadly… nope.

“I’m gutted, absolutely gutted I’m not part of it. Sabbath are family to me. To see the end without being on that stage – it hurts.” – Rob Halford

Oof. That’s straight from the leather-clad heart, isn’t it? 💔

Of course, it’s not entirely surprising. Ozzy’s been laser-focused on making this his final bow, and with health concerns already limiting how much he can sing, the show’s likely being kept tight and controlled. Add in guest singers and you risk a trainwreck instead of a tearful send-off. Still, fans across forums are saying the same thing: “Why the hell isn’t Rob there?!”

Imagine it, mun:

  • Halford trading screams with Ozzy 🤯
  • Tony Iommi riffing his Brummie heart out 🔥
  • Geezer’s bass rattling your pint glass 🍺
  • Bill Ward (if he showed up!) smashing the kit 🥁

That’s proper metal dream team stuff.

Instead, Halford will be in the audience (or maybe backstage with a pint of Banks’s Bitter), cheering them on like the rest of us. One consolation? Judas Priest are still roaring strong, celebrating over 50 years of breaking the law and melting faces, so he’s not exactly twiddling his thumbs. 😎

Still – we can’t help but feel a pang. Sabbath and Priest are the twin pillars of Birmingham metal, and seeing them unite one last time would’ve been the cherry on top of a very loud, very heavy cake. 🎂⚡

C’mon, Ozzy – let Rob on for just one song, mun! The Brum crowd would lose their minds. 🤘

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
