Thereโs something lurking in the shadows of British heavy metal again, buttโฆ and it smells faintly of incense, old graveyards, spilled ale and massive bloody riffs.
Green Lung have officially returned from the occult underworld with the announcement of their fourth studio album, Necropolitan, arriving on Friday September 11th 2026 via Nuclear Blast Records โ and honestly? The whole thing sounds like the soundtrack to a haunted cathedral collapsing into a doom festival during a thunderstorm.
Which, naturally, means weโre VERY interested. ๐
The Funeral Bell Is Tolling ๐
After spending the last few years becoming one of the UKโs most beloved modern heavy bands, Green Lung are back with an album that promises to be darker, rawer and heavier than anything theyโve unleashed before.
And if youโve ever stood in a sweaty venue while Green Lung absolutely flattened the room with colossal riffs and enough Hammond organ chaos to wake the dead, you already know this band donโt do things quietly.
Recorded at the legendary Rockfield Studios with producer Tom Dalgety โ known for his work with Ghost and Opeth โ the band apparently stripped everything back to capture their monstrous live sound properly.
That means less studio polishโฆ and more pure, Sabbathian riff worship.
Big guitars. Haunted Mellotrons. Frenzied Hammond organs. Doom-laden atmosphere thick enough to spread on toast.
Lovely stuff, mun.
Londonโs Occult Underground Comes Alive ๐ฏ๏ธ
According to the band, Necropolitan acts as both a celebration of natureโs power over mankind and a tribute to the occult history and heavy music culture of London itself.
And letโs be honest โ Green Lung have always sounded like a band who discovered an ancient cursed riff buried underneath a Victorian pub cellar somewhere.
The album reportedly combines the massive hooks of This Heathen Land with a far heavier and more uncompromising edge. Itโs still dramatic, still melodic, still packed with storytellingโฆ but now it sounds like it wants to drag you into the crypt with it.
We approve fully. ๐ค
โEvil In This Houseโ Is An Absolute Monster ๐ป๐ฅ
Alongside the album announcement comes brand-new single โEvil In This Houseโ โ a track the band describe as:
โWhat would it sound like if a stoner metal band carried out a paranormal investigation?โ
Answer: absolutely colossal.
The track stomps in with riffs that sound like Black Sabbath accidentally summoned a demon while recording in a fog-covered castle basement, before exploding into eerie synths and enough gothic swagger to soundtrack every haunted VHS tape from the 1970s.
The accompanying music video leans fully into vintage haunted house horror vibes too โ creepy corridors, ghostly visuals and enough occult energy to make your nan unplug the television.
Proper spooky behaviour.
Necropolitan Tracklist ๐ชฆ
- Open The Hellmouth
- Dance To The Grave
- Black Magick Radio
- Necropolitan Line
- Evil In This House
- Together In Death
- Ozymandias

Honestly, even the tracklist looks like it was written during a sรฉance.
British Metal Is Still Very Much Alive โก
With the legendary shadow of Ozzy Osbourne and Sabbath still looming large over heavy music, Green Lung feel like one of the few modern bands genuinely carrying that torch forward while still sounding completely fresh and uniquely their own.
No nostalgia cosplay.
No trend-chasing nonsense.
Just gigantic riffs, occult storytelling and enough atmosphere to make an entire festival field start levitating.
And in a world desperately crying out for proper heavy metal bands with identity and imagination, Green Lung are absolutely smashing it.

The Riff Report Verdict ๐ธ
Green Lung arenโt just back.
Theyโve kicked open the crypt door, lit the candles, summoned the spirits and dropped one of the most exciting British metal announcements of the year.
September cannot come fast enough, butt. ๐ค๐ฆ๐ฅ
