Legendary American rockers AEROSMITH are preparing for an extraordinary return to the stage, with special concerts at the iconic Hollywood Bowl marking their first live performances in more than three years.
For generations of rock fans, AEROSMITH have been synonymous with electrifying performances, blues-soaked guitar riffs, outrageous rock ‘n’ roll swagger and some of the biggest anthems ever recorded.
Now, following years of uncertainty surrounding the band’s live future, the prospect of seeing the Boston rock legends perform together again is generating enormous excitement.
The planned Hollywood Bowl appearances are being presented as special comeback celebrations, bringing together AEROSMITH and a selection of high-profile musical guests.
It is a remarkable development for a band whose touring future appeared to have come to an end following Steven Tyler’s vocal injury.
๐ค A Comeback Few Fans Expected
AEROSMITH’s return to the stage carries particular significance because of the events that brought their farewell tour to a premature halt.
In September 2023, frontman Steven Tyler suffered serious vocal injuries during the band’s Peace Out farewell tour.
The injuries included damage to his vocal cords and a fractured larynx, forcing the group to postpone its remaining performances.
Despite efforts to recover, the band announced in August 2024 that it had made the difficult decision to retire from touring.
For fans who had followed AEROSMITH throughout their five-decade career, the announcement was devastating.
The possibility that they might never again hear classics such as Dream On, Sweet Emotion or Walk This Way performed live by the band seemed increasingly real.
That makes the Hollywood Bowl comeback especially significant.
However, special concerts do not necessarily mean a full-scale touring return, and any future live plans will depend on further announcements.
๐ค Hollywood Bowl โ An Iconic Setting For Rock History
There are few venues more appropriate for a major rock comeback than the Hollywood Bowl.
Situated in Los Angeles, California, the legendary outdoor amphitheatre has hosted some of the biggest names in music.
Its distinctive shell-shaped stage and hillside setting have made it one of the most recognisable concert venues in the world.
Over the decades, the Hollywood Bowl has welcomed artists spanning rock, pop, jazz, classical music and countless other genres.
For AEROSMITH, performing at such a celebrated venue provides a spectacular setting for a return that many fans had feared might never happen.
๐ธ The Legacy Of America’s Greatest Rock ‘N’ Roll Band
Formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970, AEROSMITH became one of the defining American rock bands of the 1970s and beyond.
The classic lineup features:
- Steven Tyler โ Lead vocals
- Joe Perry โ Lead guitar
- Brad Whitford โ Guitar
- Tom Hamilton โ Bass guitar
- Joey Kramer โ Drums
Combining blues influences, hard-rock aggression and Tyler’s unmistakable vocals, the band developed a sound that helped shape generations of rock musicians.
Their early albums, including Get Your Wings (1974), Toys In The Attic (1975) and Rocks (1976), established AEROSMITH as one of America’s most exciting hard-rock groups.
Songs such as Sweet Emotion, Walk This Way, Back In The Saddle and Dream On became essential parts of the classic rock catalogue.
Following personal difficulties and commercial challenges during the late 1970s and early 1980s, the group staged one of rock music’s most successful comebacks.
Albums including Permanent Vacation (1987), Pump (1989) and Get A Grip (1993) introduced AEROSMITH to a new generation of fans.
Their renewed success produced hits such as Dude (Looks Like A Lady), Love In An Elevator, Janie’s Got A Gun, Cryin’ and Crazy.
In 1998, the band achieved another enormous commercial success with I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing, recorded for the film Armageddon.
Across their career, AEROSMITH have sold more than 150 million records worldwide and earned a place among the most influential American rock bands of all time.

๐ค Could These Be AEROSMITH’s Final Concerts?
The announcement has raised an important question among fans: could these be the band’s final major performances?
Although AEROSMITH retired from touring in August 2024, the Hollywood Bowl concerts demonstrate that the group have not completely closed the door on special live appearances.
Joe Perry previously suggested that occasional concerts could remain possible even without another extensive tour.
For now, however, no further AEROSMITH concerts have been announced beyond these two Hollywood Bowl performances.
๐ค THE RIFF REPORT VERDICT
This is shaping up to be something far bigger than an ordinary comeback concert.
With GUNS N’ ROSES, HEART, RUN-DMC, THE BLACK CROWES and an extraordinary collection of rock royalty involved, the two Hollywood Bowl shows could become genuinely historic celebrations of AEROSMITH’s legacy.
The return of Steven Tyler and his bandmates after more than three years away from full-length concerts is already significant.
Add that guest lineup, and the excitement reaches another level entirely.
Two nights. One legendary venue. More rock royalty than you can shake a guitar at.
