Mania Boils Over ๐ฅ
The Riff Report โ No ticket? No mercy. Just madness.
Well, it wouldnโt be a true Oasis gig without a bit of chaos at the gates, would it? ๐ On Friday night, July 11th, as Liam and Noel finally strutted back on stage together in Manchesterโs Heaton Park for the first time in 16 bloody years, some fans decided they werenโt about to let a sold-out show stop โem.
Because when you donโt have a ticket to the gig of the decade, what do you do?
You grab a ladder, butt. ๐ช
๐ธ โThereโs 50 of โem trying to scale the fence, Sargeโฆโ
Yes, you read that right. Around 50 fans tried breaking into Heaton Park, including some absolute legends (or lunatics?) who were spotted carrying a ladder in broad daylight like they were off to repaint the Gallagher family living room. ๐จ๐ค
According to eyewitnesses and snaps doing the rounds online, there was a full-on police response just outside the park. Coppers, stewards, dogs, horses โ the works. ๐๐ด๐
It was like the final boss level of British gig etiquette, and spoiler alert: the bosses failed. One by one, they were stopped, turned away, or politely escorted away from the sceneโฆ except โpolitelyโ in this case involved a dispersal order and the sternest Manc accents known to man. ๐ฌ
๐ What’s a Dispersal Order Then, Mun?
A dispersal order gives police and community support officers the power to:
- Move on groups loitering or being โa nuisanceโ (aka chanting โLIIIAAAMโ for 3 hours straight)
- Break up potential trouble before it starts
- Chuck anyone trying to scale a bloody park fence into a van ๐
Itโs basically the official party-pooper badge, and itโs in place all weekend around Heaton Park. If you’re planning to โjust pop down and have a listenโ from the outside โ think again, butt.
๐ณ Gallagher Hill: The Fansโ Fortress
Now hereโs where things get a bit proper lush.
While the police were wrangling with fence jumpers and stewards were tackling stepladder smugglers, another crowd gathered peacefully nearby, creating a now-iconic makeshift viewing zone dubbed โGallagher Hill.โ ๐๏ธ
With pint cans, portable speakers, and dodgy Bluetooth radios, hundreds of fans without tickets rocked up just outside the perimeter and turned the grassy hill into a de facto fan zone. Think Glastonbury meets B&Q car parkโฆ with attitude.
From there, you could hear the roars, the riffs, and the brothers themselves belting out the classics. One fan told us:
โWe couldnโt get tickets but we could feel the gig in our bones, mun. It was like the hill itself was singing along.โ
Poetic stuff. Pint-worthy, even. ๐ป
๐ง Ladders to Heaven or Stairway to Arrest?
Letโs not sugarcoat it โ climbing a fence into a sold-out show is dumb. Especially when the fuzz are already expecting it and the park is basically Fort Gallagher for the next week.
We get it. You wanted to be in there. So did half the country. But turning up with a stepladder is a bit Looney Tunes โ and also very illegal.
And just imagine the scenes when you get to the top, only to be greeted by a copper holding a sausage roll and a taser. Game over, mun. ๐
๐ฐ The Big Picture โ Oasis Gigs Have Always Been Mad
Letโs rewind:
- Knebworth โ96 โ fans swam across rivers to get a glimpse of the Gallaghers.
- Finsbury Park 2002 โ flares, chaos, and a bloke who claimed he โsaw God during Slide Away.โ
- Cardiff 2025 โ five-star chaos with ticketless fans scaling railings.
And now? Heaton Park 2025 โ the year of the Ladder Crew. ๐ช๐
You couldnโt make it up. But of course, you donโt need to. This is Oasis. This is Manchester. This is what happens when the biggest Britpop band of all time reunites after 16 years and drops โLive Foreverโ under a golden sunset in front of 80,000.
TL;DR:
- ๐งโโ๏ธ 50 fans tried jumping fences at Heaton Park โ some with a literal LADDER
- ๐ฎโโ๏ธ Police issued a dispersal order for the surrounding area all weekend
- ๐ซ No ticket = no entry (and possibly a chat with Manchesterโs finest)
- ๐ โGallagher Hillโ is now a thing โ fans without tickets are listening in from nearby
- ๐คฏ Oasis gigs continue to be absolute carnage in the best way possible
So, if youโre off to one of the next Heaton Park dates โ for the love of all that is Manc and musical, bring your ticket, not your toolbox. And if youโre on Gallagher Hillโฆ keep it tidy, keep it loud, and donโt fall off the back of the camping chair, alright?
Weโll be back with more madness, more pints, and probably more ladders.
