โBecause where else can you lose your voice, your mind, and your shoe before sundown?โ
๐ป PRELUDE TO MADNESS โ WAKING UP IN A TENT THAT SMELLS LIKE GLITTER, REGRET & DAMP SOCKS
The thing about Friday at Glastonbury is that itโs your first real test of stamina. Thursdayโs buzz is still kicking around in your veins, but your feet already feel like youโve marched to Mordor and back. Still, with a warm can of Strongbow in one hand and a bacon bap that may or may not be vegan in the other, you march toward the Pyramid like a soldier of sound. And boy, did Friday deliver some highsโฆ and some spectacular lows.
Letโs break it down like a Glasto mosh pitโฆ
๐ THE GOOD โ WHERE MAGIC HAPPENED AND MEMORIES WERE MADE
๐ DUA LIPA โ THE SECRET THAT WASNโT, BUT STILL BLEW US AWAY
Rumours were flying all week like rogue tent poles in a Somerset gale. Dua Lipa was the name on every muddy lip. And when she hit that stage with enough confidence to make Beyoncรฉ blink, she confirmed sheโs more than just a pop star โ sheโs a Glasto goddess.
Her set was a sonic blitzkrieg of disco-meets-rave energy. Levitating, Donโt Start Now, and New Rules had the crowd bouncing like toddlers on Haribo. She even dropped a couple of new tracks that sounded like they were born in the heart of a neon laser jungle. Every move was choreographed, every note was bang on. And the outfit? A glittery intergalactic battle corset. Slay, queen. Absolute slay.
Bonus: She shouted out โI love you weirdos!โ to the crowd. We felt seen ๐ญ
๐งจ BIFFY CLYRO โ A MASTERCLASS IN SWEAT, SCREAMS, AND SCOTTISH CHAOS
Headlining the Pyramid on Friday night, Biffy Clyro came out swinging like Braveheart after five espressos. Simon Neil, shirtless and tattooed like a walking Banksy, led the charge with a primal scream and then BAM โ โThe Captainโ hit like a tidal wave of feels.
They churned through a setlist that mixed emotional gut-punchers (Re-arrange, Many of Horror) with feral anthems (Biblical, Mountains). The light show was blinding, the pyro melted eyebrows, and the mosh pits looked like someone dropped Mentos in a bottle of Irn-Bru. The crowd sang every bloody word โ it was like mass therapy with guitars.
When they ended with Stinginโ Belle, there wasnโt a dry eye, or shirt, in the house. โWe fing love you, Glasto!โ Simon roared. We fing love you too, Biffy.
๐ถ OTHER STAGE HEROES โ LITTLE ACTS, BIG BLOODY MOMENTS
โจ Yard Act
Our favourite post-punk sarcastic sermonists absolutely schooled the John Peel stage with a mix of chaos and commentary. โThis oneโs about capitalism!โ was yelled before launching into Rich โ class.
๐งโโ๏ธ Confidence Man
Electronic wizardry, mad outfits, and the best dance moves this side of an awkward wedding. Camp. Chaotic. Irresistible.
๐ฅ Nova Twins
Over at the Greenpeace stage, these two queens of riff-laced rebellion tore the place apart with industrial basslines, punk fury, and enough attitude to level a city. Give โem the main stage next year, cโmon butt!
๐ CLEAN TOILETS? A MIRACLE FROM THE GODS
Letโs not pretend Glasto bogs are ever pleasant. But for once, some of the compost loos were actuallyโฆ not bad? One near the Healing Fields had hand sanitiser and a mural of a llama DJ. Itโs the little things.
๐ CROWD VIBES: OFF THE SCALE
Everyone was on a good one. Smiles for miles. You could ask a stranger for glitter and they’d paint your whole face. People were hugging, singing, trading beers, and just vibing hard. This is what Glastoโs all about. The world outside didnโt matter โ it was just you, the music, and your new best mate from Barnsley who once saw Arctic Monkeys in a pub.
๐คทโโ๏ธ THE BAD โ NOT EVERYTHING WAS LUSH
๐ฐ๏ธ SET TIME SLIP-UPS
Tech delays hit a few acts hard. Some DJs had issues with kit. At the Lonely Hearts Club, a 15-minute silence killed the energy faster than a wet sock. Also, if you were trying to catch two artists back-to-back, good luck: the trek from Other Stage to West Holts became a survival mission.
๐ง๏ธ WET, NOT WILD
The rain didnโt pour, but that fine drizzle โ the kind that soaks you sideways โ made a sneaky appearance around midday. Ponchos were whipped out. Umbrellas became battle weapons. And letโs just say, if you were in canvas trainers, you made a grave error.
๐ฑ VODAFONE eSIM: COOL IDEA, DREADFUL EXECUTION
Vodafone hyped their โfree festival eSIM for better signalโ all over the place โ but the queue outside the tech tent looked like Glastoโs version of a DMV. One bloke shouted โIโve missed 3 bands for this!โ before rage-quitting and storming off toward the Stone Circle. The irony? Once you got it, signal was still a bit crap. Welcome to Glasto.
๐ฉ THE UGLY โ OH DEAR GOD, WHY?!
๐ THE MYSTERY PIT OF DOOM (LEFTFIELD STAGE)
Weโre still not sure what happened during Leftfieldโs Rage Hour but it involved:
- One lost shoe
- A woman shouting โIโM A LAWYER!โ
- A foghorn
- A guy in a banana costume crying
Security tried to intervene but were thwarted by a rogue falafel. The pit was later cordoned off โfor safety reasons.โ Rock and roll.
๐ฆ INVASION OF THE FLYING DEMONS
Bugpocalypse hit Glasto 2025. Whether it was the rain or climate change, swarms of flying beetles descended on the Park Stage like it was biblical punishment. People flailed like drunk wizards. One even flew straight into a pasty mid-bite. RIP, pastry pal.
๐ FASHION NIGHTMARES
Look, Glasto is the home of freedom. You do you. BUT.
- Crocs with fishnets
- Sequin hot pants and ski goggles
- โSexy Boris Johnsonโ costume (Why?!)
- Man dressed as Shrek, complete with swamp fog machine, who accidentally smoked out the Greenpeace cafรฉ.
Fashion or felony? You decide.
๐ญ THE โWHAT JUST HAPPENED?!โ MOMENTS
- A full brass band doing Slipknotโs Duality outside the Glade.
- A spontaneous silent disco on the hill above the Pyramid because someone brought 20 Bluetooth speakers and a Wi-Fi router.
- Man with a fishing rod trying to โcatch vibesโ.
- Girl who set up a โfree therapyโ booth and just gave out tequila shots.
๐ FOOD REPORT โ GREASY, GRIM, AND GLORIOUS
- ๐ Best: Vegan Junk Food Truck โ BBQ jackfruit burger with โdirty friesโ was life-affirming.
- ๐ฏ Worst: ยฃ13 falafel wrap that tasted like cardboard and sadness.
- โ Honourable Mention: Guy selling lukewarm tea out of a watering can near the toilets. Legend.
๐ค OVERHEARD AT GLASTO
โIโve lost my boyfriend and my dignity but found myself.โ
โDo you think the llama DJ takes requests?โ
โIs it raining or am I crying again?โ
โThis cider tastes like regret but in a good way.โ
โI just hugged a tree and now Iโm in love with it.โ
๐ FINAL VERDICT โ FRIDAY WAS A BEAUTIFUL MESS
Despite the drizzle, the queues, and the flying insects that may or may not have been trained assassins โ Friday ripped. From Dua Lipaโs pop apocalypse to Biffyโs rock sermon, it was the kind of day that makes the ticket price (and mild trench foot) worth it.
There was glitter. There were tears. There was a man yelling โTHIS IS FOR WALES!โ during a drum and bass drop. It was pure, unfiltered, filthy, fabulous Glastonbury.
๐ฃ LETโS HEAR IT FOR SATURDAYโฆ
Tomorrow, we go again. Bigger. Louder. Muddier. Whether you’re in a tipi, a tent, or hallucinating inside a compost loo, you are part of something magical.
Stay hydrated, stay weird, and donโt trust anyone wearing a poncho that says โFree Hugsโ.
