Cronian’s landmark 2006 debut album Terra is getting the full anniversary treatment, with M-Theory Audio announcing a 20th anniversary vinyl reissue limited to just 300 copies worldwide.
Now this is one for the collectors.
The atmospheric metal project Cronian, formed by Øystein G. Brun of Borknagar and Molested alongside Andreas Hedlund of Borknagar and Vintersorg, are celebrating two decades of their debut album Terra with a special vinyl edition arriving on 13 November 2026.
And rather surprisingly, this will mark the first time the album has ever been released on vinyl.
Twenty years later.
Better late than never, eh?
❄️ Terra Finally Lands On Vinyl
Originally released in 2006, Terra was born from Brun and Hedlund’s desire to explore musical territory beyond their work in Borknagar.
Instead of simply making another straightforward extreme-metal record, the pair built something considerably colder, stranger and more cinematic.
The album blended progressive metal, black metal, atmospheric soundscapes and electronic textures, creating a style that felt vast and almost soundtrack-like in its scope.
This new 20th anniversary pressing finally gives vinyl fans the chance to experience the record in physical form.
And naturally, they’ve made it look suitably frosty.

The anniversary edition will be pressed on exclusive “Iceolated Existence” coloured vinyl.
Only 300 copies will be produced worldwide.
Three hundred.
So if you’re one of those collectors who says, “I’ll grab one next month,” this is probably your friendly reminder that next month might be too bloody late.
Limited metal vinyl has a nasty habit of disappearing faster than festival beer when the sun comes out.
🌌 A Cold And Cinematic Metal Experiment
Part of what made Terra so distinctive was the way Brun and Hedlund approached its creation.
The record was built using digital home-studio technology, allowing the duo to experiment beyond the boundaries of a conventional band setup.
The result was a dense mixture of Scandinavian extreme-metal riffing, electronic layers and score-like instrumentation.
Rather than simply charging forward with blastbeats and tremolo picking, Terra created atmosphere.
Lots of it.
Cold, expansive and deliberately otherworldly, the album felt like somebody had taken progressive black metal, launched it into orbit and then left it floating above a frozen Norwegian landscape.
Cheerful stuff.
🎸 Two Familiar Names From Scandinavian Metal
Both musicians behind Cronian already carried serious pedigree.
Øystein G. Brun is best known as the guitarist and driving creative force behind Borknagar, one of Norway’s most distinctive progressive extreme-metal bands.
His work has consistently pushed beyond traditional black-metal boundaries, incorporating folk, progressive rock, atmosphere and grand melodic ideas.
Andreas Hedlund, meanwhile, is widely known through his work as Vintersorg, as well as his own time with Borknagar.
Together, the pair had enough creative ammunition to make Cronian considerably more than a simple side project.
Terra became a separate world entirely.
🎚️ Dan Swanö Behind The Mastering
Another very tasty name attached to the album is Dan Swanö.
The legendary Swedish musician, producer and engineer handled the mastering for Terra, bringing his considerable experience to the record’s unusual mix of heaviness and atmosphere.
Swanö’s fingerprints can be found across enormous swathes of Scandinavian metal history.
From Edge Of Sanity and Nightingale to production and engineering work connected with countless metal releases, the bloke has seemingly spent half his life inside studios making heavy records sound massive.
So yeah.
Pretty safe pair of ears.
📖 New Liner Notes From Øystein G. Brun
The reissue isn’t simply the old album dumped onto coloured vinyl with a sticker slapped on the front either.
The 20th anniversary edition will include an expanded four-panel insert, featuring newly written reflective liner notes from Øystein G. Brun.
That gives fans a fresh look back at the creation of Terra two decades after the original sessions.
And that sort of retrospective material is always fascinating.
Artists often view albums very differently after twenty years.
What seemed experimental at the time might now feel completely natural.
What felt like a minor studio decision might have gone on to define the entire record.
Time has a funny habit of changing perspective.

Two decades is a long time in metal.
Scenes change.
Technology changes.
Bands split.
Bands reform.
Vinyl disappears.
Then somehow vinyl comes roaring back and suddenly everybody owns a record player again.
Through all of that, Terra has remained an interesting example of two established Scandinavian musicians deliberately stepping outside their usual creative environment.
Rather than simply repeating what was already working elsewhere, Cronian took the opportunity to experiment.

But the fact that this is the album’s first-ever vinyl pressing makes it considerably more interesting.
Cronian created something atmospheric, ambitious and unusual back in 2006, combining extreme-metal foundations with electronic and cinematic elements long before that kind of genre-blurring became quite so commonplace.
Now fans finally get the chance to stick it on a turntable.
The only slight problem?
There are just 300 copies worldwide.
So if Terra holds a special place in your collection, you probably don’t want to spend six months thinking about it.
Because somewhere out there, 299 other metalheads have probably just had exactly the same idea.
