Birminghamโs favourite bat-biting son, Ozzy Osbourne, might be gone, but the metal community isnโt about to let his legacy fade into the Brummie fog. Nope โ weโre talking proper tributes here. None of this โsmall plaque at the bus stopโ nonsense.
On Change.org, two petitions have taken flight faster than a bat at a Sabbath gig:
1๏ธโฃ Rename Birmingham Airport to Ozzy Osbourne International โ Because nothing says โWelcome to Birminghamโ like landing in the city where the Prince of Darkness was forged in the fires of heavy metal. This oneโs already soaring with over 66,000 signatures. Imagine hearing, โThis is your captain speaking โ weโll be touching down at Ozzy Osbourne International in 20 minutes. Please fasten your seatbelts and prepare for total rock โnโ roll.โ Tidy.
2๏ธโฃ Erect an Ozzy Osbourne Statue Near Birmingham Childrenโs Hospital โ A nod to Ozzyโs softer side (yes, he has one), this tribute would stand as a beacon of hope and headbanging right by a place that helps kids fight their toughest battles. Currently sitting at just under 1,400 signatures, it needs a massive push from the metal army to catch up with the airport renaming hype.
Both petitions are part of the wider RIP Ozzy Osbourne movement, aiming to immortalise the man who brought Brum to the world stage with riffs, chaos, and eyeliner that could cut glass.
๐ฌ Our take?
Frankly, why stop at two tributes? Letโs rename the M6 as the โCrazy Train Expresswayโ, turn the Bullringโs bull into a giant metal bat, and make every Greggs in Birmingham play โParanoidโ on a loop.
Until then โ sign the petitions, spread the word, and keep Ozzyโs memory louder than ever. \m/
