The Future Past Tour | June 2025
๐Ÿ“ London Stadium | Attendance: 75,000
๐Ÿ“ A Riff Report Exclusive

๐ŸŽธ SCREAM FOR ME LONDON!

London Stadium. 75,000 souls. One band to rule them all. IRON BLOODY MAIDEN. ๐Ÿค˜ From the second the Troopers started marching toward the gates, you could feel the rumble underfoot โ€“ not from the Tube, butt, but from decades of metal history ready to unleash absolute chaos.

The Future Past Tour isnโ€™t just a greatest hits tour. Itโ€™s a two-finger salute to time itself โ€“ bridging the bombast of Somewhere in Time with the lore-soaked madness of Senjutsu. Time travel and samurai? Only Maiden could make it work. And on this night, they were at the top of their game โ€“ louder, faster, and somehow even more Maiden than ever before. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐ŸŸ๏ธ THE BUILD-UP: LONDON TURNED METAL

From the moment you stepped out at Stratford, you knew you were in Maiden territory. Flags waving. Eddie shirts from every era. Pint cans in hand and chants of “MAIDEN! MAIDEN!” echoing down the Olympic Park. It felt like a holy pilgrimage โ€“ Wembley who?

Support came from Lord of the Lost and Airbourne, both bringing full throttle energy. Airbourne, in particular, turned it up to 11 with flying beer cans and bonkers riffs โ€“ proper Aussie chaos. But letโ€™s be honest, this crowd had one thing on their mind: the Irons. โš”๏ธ

๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ SETLIST FROM THE FUTURE AND PAST

Opening with โ€œCaught Somewhere in Timeโ€ was a masterstroke. That synthy guitar intro sent chills. Itโ€™s been decades since they dusted it off live โ€“ and boy, was it worth the wait.

Hereโ€™s the monster setlist:

  1. Caught Somewhere in Time
  2. Stranger in a Strange Land
  3. The Writing on the Wall
  4. Days of Future Past
  5. The Time Machine
  6. Death of the Celts
  7. Can I Play with Madness
  8. Heaven Can Wait
  9. Alexander the Great (YESS MUN!)
  10. Fear of the Dark
  11. Iron Maiden

Encore:
12. Hell on Earth
13. The Trooper
14. Wasted Years

โ€œAlexander the Greatโ€ live was like seeing Bigfoot riding Nessie while sipping a cuppa. Long rumoured. Long denied. But finally here. And the crowd LOST IT. ๐Ÿคฏ

๐ŸŽค BRUCE: THE TIME-TRAVELLING RINGMASTER

Bruce Dickinson is 65 and still running across the stage like heโ€™s chasing a bus in Cardiff. Whether donning a samurai cloak or wielding a musket for โ€œThe Trooper,โ€ the man is a showman. His voice? Still powerful enough to strip paint.

Between songs, Bruce was in top form. โ€œScream for me LON-DON STAAAAA-DIUM!โ€ he bellowed like a metal war god. He even joked about traffic in Stratford, saying โ€œIt took less time to write Senjutsu than it did to get here.โ€

๐ŸŽธ THE BAND: LEGENDS UNLEASHED

Adrian, Dave, and Janick โ€“ the triple guitar threat. Absolute wizards, switching solos mid-air like itโ€™s no big deal. Janickโ€™s stage antics (including sword swinging and high-kicks) were as ridiculous as ever โ€“ and we loved every second. ๐ŸŽธ

Nicko behind the kit was a beast. His fills during โ€œHell on Earthโ€ hit like thunderclaps. And Steve Harris? The galloping god of bass, always front and centre, foot up on the monitor, leading the charge like a metal general. ๐ŸŽ

Every note, every riff, every light cue โ€“ tight as a snare drum. This isnโ€™t a band playing at being legends. They are legends. And they know it.

๐Ÿง  VISUALS: LASERS, EDDIE, AND A SAMURAI DYSTOPIA

This tour’s production is mind-blowing. A cyborg cityscape straight out of Blade Runner fused with feudal Japan. Giant gears, glowing neon panels, and โ€“ of course โ€“ EDDIE in multiple monstrous forms. ๐Ÿ‘น

We had:

  • Cyborg Eddie fencing Bruce
  • Samurai Eddie rising behind the drum kit
  • Pyro blasts during โ€œThe Trooperโ€ that nearly melted eyebrows in Zone 2
  • Giant backdrops changing with each song like a Netflix binge of metal history

Lasers sliced through the night during โ€œStranger in a Strange Land,โ€ while โ€œWasted Yearsโ€ brought out vintage tour footage and emotional vibes that had grown men sobbing into their Trooper Ale. ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿบ

๐Ÿค˜ CROWD VIBES: 75,000 STRONG AND LOUDER THAN HELL

London Stadium has never felt so alive. From the barrier to the nosebleeds, it was wall-to-wall passion. You had:

  • Lifelong fans in patched battle jackets
  • Teens discovering Maiden for the first time
  • People in full samurai armour
  • A bloke crowd-surfing in a cardboard spaceship (only in the UK, munโ€ฆ)

During โ€œFear of the Dark,โ€ the entire stadium became a sea of phone lights and fists. It was spiritual. It was electric. It was MAIDEN. ๐Ÿ‘Š

The mosh pits? Lively but respectful. The singalongs? Deafening. The atmosphere? Tidy as hell.

๐Ÿ’ฌ QUOTES FROM THE CROWD

๐ŸŽค โ€œMate, I can die happy now. Alexander the Great LIVE?! I was tamping for years they never played it!โ€ โ€“ Darren, 52, Bridgend

๐ŸŽค โ€œBruce is still fitter than me and Iโ€™m 27. This is ridiculous!โ€ โ€“ Chloe, Hackney

๐ŸŽค โ€œThe best Maiden show Iโ€™ve seen and I was at Donington โ€™88.โ€ โ€“ Mark, with a tear in his eye

๐ŸŽค โ€œI came from Argentina for this. Worth every penny and every mile.โ€ โ€“ Rodrigo, Buenos Aires

๐Ÿด WELSH CORNER: MAIDEN FANS REPRESENT!

We spotted plenty of Welsh flags in the crowd (cโ€™mon Cymru!). One Eddie had a daffodil in his helmet. The South Walian contingent was out in force, with the chant of โ€œBruce-y, Bruce-y give us a roar!โ€ echoing into the East London night.

Also: shout-out to the lads who turned up in Steelhouse Fest shirts. Tidy rep for the Valleys! ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿง  THE FUTURE PAST: A BRILLIANT CONCEPT TOUR

This was more than a show. It was a masterclass in legacy. By fusing Somewhere in Time and Senjutsu, Maiden gave us something unexpected โ€“ not just the hits, but deep cuts, storytelling epics, and genuine moments.

Most legacy bands would play it safe. Maiden went full throttle into obscure and complex material โ€“ and made it sing. That takes guts. That takes confidence. That takes MAIDEN.

๐Ÿงผ THE NITPICKS (JUST TO BE FAIR)

Alright, alright โ€“ no show is perfect. Hereโ€™s the good, the bad, and the cheeky:

The Good:

  • Crystal-clear sound mix
  • Crowd energy 10/10
  • Setlist for the die-hards

The Slightly Meh:

  • ยฃ8 pints. Robbery.
  • โ€œThe Writing on the Wallโ€ felt a bit mid in a live setting
  • Merch queue was longer than the Rime of the Ancient Mariner

The Ugly:

  • One bloke started a fight over someone blocking his view. Security yeeted him out like Bruce ejecting Eddie from a jet. โœˆ๏ธ

๐ŸŽฏ FINAL VERDICT

RATING: ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ / 5

Maidenโ€™s Future Past show at London Stadium was a celebration of time, legacy, and absolute power. A reminder that metal never dies, and neither does passion when youโ€™ve got 75,000 people screaming every lyric like itโ€™s gospel.

Bruce still commands like a general. The band are still tighter than your jeans after Christmas. The fans? The heartbeat of heavy metal.

This wasnโ€™t just a gig. This was an event.

So if you were there, you know. And if you missed itโ€ฆ well butt, you missed one of the greatest metal nights this countryโ€™s ever seen. ๐Ÿ‘‘โš”๏ธ

โœ๏ธ Written for The Riff Report โ€“ powered by riffs, sarcasm, and way too many energy drinks ๐Ÿฅค

Michael

Michael

๐ŸŽธ About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise โ€” it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publicationโ€™s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist โ€” sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
