“History teaches us nothing…” – except how to absolutely destroy a historic venue with post-hardcore anthems and a tidal wave of nostalgia. 😅
Yes, you heard right: Funeral for a Friend – the Welsh legends who helped define a generation of eyeliner-smudged, emotionally-charged rockers – are returning for a massive outdoor headline show at Cardiff Castle this summer. And it’s one of just two UK headline gigs they’re doing all year. Let’s. F**king. Go. 💥
📍 THE DETAILS – ROCK THE CASTLE 2025
Date: Saturday, July 19, 2025 Location: Cardiff Castle, the most iconic outdoor venue in Cymru 🏰 Support Acts: TBA, but expect some loud friends 🔥 Gates Open: 5:00pm Curfew: 10:30pm – it’s a castle, not a rave cave 🕰️ Tickets: 🎟️ General Admission – £45.00 🎟️ VIP (Fast Track + Viewing Area) – £70.00 🎟️ Accessible Ticket (inc. PA pass) – £45.00 Booking fees may apply, because capitalism 🙄
👉 Tickets on sale now via Ticketmaster and all the usual suspects. But don’t sleep on it – this will 100% sell out quicker than you can scream “Roses for the Dead” in your best Neath accent.
🇬🇧 THE ONLY OTHER UK HEADLINE SHOW? LEEDS.
In case you’re not in the know (or you’re just a bit thick from too much Strongbow at Slam Dunk), Funeral are also headlining Sounds of The City in Leeds the night before:
Friday, July 18, 2025 – Millennium Square, Leeds But that’s it. No Download, no sweaty club tour. Just Leeds and Cardiff. Choose your battleground wisely, soldier. Or do both like a proper fan and lose your voice twice. 🎤💀
🎶 WHAT TO EXPECT? EMOTIONAL CARNAGE
This isn’t some polite comeback tour with unplugged versions and awkward stage banter. Nah, this is a full-throttle return to glory, and the Cardiff crowd is gonna go full feral.
Likely Setlist Bangers:
“Juneau” (cue screaming your ex’s name) “Roses for the Dead” (crying + moshing = cardio) “History” (prepare to sob into your pint) “Streetcar” (yes, we still don’t know what this song is really about, but it slaps) “Escape Artists Never Die” (last song of the night? You bet your Vans it is)
Expect walls of sound, heartfelt singalongs, and a few moments where your mate turns to you and says, “I’m not crying, you are.” 🥲
💬 THE WORD ON THE STREET (aka Twitter)
“Singing ‘History’ in Cardiff Castle? I will be insufferable for at least a month.” – @welshfangirl98
“Bro I was in year 9 when I first heard ‘Juneau’… now I’m bringing my kid to see them. Wild.” – @DanFromPonty
“This is the closest thing to a Welsh national holiday. Put it in the calendar.” – @EmoOwain
🧃 IMPORTANT INFO FOR FIRST-TIMERS & TOURISTS
Cardiff Castle is in the middle of town – you can stumble there from Central Station in under 10 minutes There’s no camping – sorry, this ain’t Steelhouse Plenty of nearby bars (The Moon, Fuel, Tiny Rebel – all lush) It’s an open-air gig, so pack a poncho or risk being soaked like a forgotten Newport seagull 🐦 Accessibility options available – book early for platform access
🏁 FINAL THOUGHTS: C’MON BUTT, LET’S ROCK THE CASTLE
This is more than just a gig. It’s a hometown heroes moment. It’s Welsh emo royalty returning to their throne. It’s gonna be special.
If you were there in 2003 with the side fringe and the black wristbands, or if you discovered them years later and wished you could’ve seen it in their prime – this is your shot.
And honestly? There’s no better venue in the UK to belt “Roses for the Dead” than inside the stone walls of a castle, surrounded by people who know exactly what that song meant when you were heartbroken and 17. 🖤
See you in the pit, by order of the Welsh Ministry of Mosh. 🏴🤘
