Australian deathcore wrecking crew A NIGHT IN TEXAS are back, and apparently they’ve decided that everyone’s eardrums have been living far too comfortably lately. 😈💥

The Brisbane extreme-metal quartet have released their fifth full-length album, The Darkest Side of Humanity, via Unique Leader Records, delivering ten tracks of technical brutality, suffocating atmosphere and enough riff-based violence to turn your morning coffee into pre-workout.

Released on 4 September, The Darkest Side of Humanity sees A Night In Texas diving headfirst into some seriously grim territory — both musically and lyrically.

And alongside the album comes another fresh slab of punishment in the form of new single “Rot From Within”.

🩸 “Rot From Within” Takes Aim at Cultural Decay

This isn’t brutality simply for brutality’s sake.

“Rot From Within” digs into corporate greed, cultural decay and the gradual erosion of identity in the pursuit of profit and so-called progress.

The band explain:

“‘Rot From Within’ is a bleak examination of cultural decay, corporate greed, and the slow erosion of identity in the pursuit of profit and progress.”

The song imagines a society increasingly disconnected from its roots, where heritage, tradition and meaning are sacrificed in favour of consumption, convenience and wealth.

A Night In Texas continue:

“As history is rewritten and values are traded for convenience, the song questions what remains when the foundations that once defined us have been stripped away.”

Cheery stuff, then. 😅

But when you’re delivering the message through crushing riffs, relentless drums and throat-shredding deathcore, subtlety isn’t exactly the order of the day.

The band describe the track as a warning about humanity’s willingness to sacrifice its principles for short-term gain, ultimately suggesting that the most dangerous collapse isn’t necessarily caused by an outside force.

Sometimes the rot starts from within.

💀 Lovely.

🔥 The Band’s Darkest Record Yet

A Night In Texas aren’t messing around with the description of this one.

The Darkest Side of Humanity is being billed as the band’s darkest and most extreme release to date, combining the rapid-fire aggression of their established deathcore sound with elements harking back to their earlier material.

Across its ten tracks you’ll find blistering speed, enormous heaviness and an oppressive atmosphere designed to make your headphones file a workplace grievance.

The album explores some equally weighty subjects, including death, suffering, mortality, instinct, deception and the darker corners of human existence.

There’s also an examination of humanity’s primal nature and the unseen forces influencing our thoughts and actions.

Basically, it’s not exactly something you’re putting on while blowing up balloons for Nan’s birthday party.

Unless Nan absolutely loves deathcore.

In which case, legend. 🤘😂

🎚️ Serious Heavyweight Production

The record was produced by A Night In Texas guitarist Cory Judd, before being mixed and mastered by Christian Donaldson.

That’s a name extreme-metal fans may recognise from his work with the likes of Cryptopsy, Ingested and Despised Icon.

And when you’re making an album designed to sound like the gates of hell have just been kicked open by a bulldozer, that’s a pretty tidy bloke to have behind the desk.

💿 The Darkest Side of Humanity Tracklist

  1. Oblivions Dominion
  2. Rot From Within
  3. Fed To Death
  4. Metastatic Misery
  5. Evolved From Hate
  6. When The Sun Burns Out
  7. A Primal Conditioning
  8. The Chronicles Of Nihilism (feat. Rheese Peters of Babirusa)
  9. The Infinite Maw (feat. Ryan Vail of Synestia/Larcenia Roe)
  10. The Darkest Side Of Humanity

Those song titles alone sound like the playlist Satan sticks on when he’s had a particularly stressful Monday. 🔥😂

🤘 Early Reviews Are Already Rolling In

The international metal press has wasted little time getting stuck into the record.

Metal Talk praised the album as a showcase of just how devastating and creative the band’s technical deathcore has become, while Metal Epidemic declared that A Night In Texas have “nailed it again”.

Meanwhile, Insane Blog highlighted the band’s ability to continually raise the stakes, reinforcing their position among Australia’s most formidable extreme-metal outfits.

Blade Winchester described the record as an “absolutely relentless dose of modern deathcore”, while Loud Mag pointed towards the strength of Australia’s current heavy scene — with A Night In Texas providing yet another example of why the country’s extreme-metal output is absolutely flying.

And they’re not wrong.

Australia keeps producing bands capable of making speakers reconsider their life choices. 🇦🇺💀

🎤 A NIGHT IN TEXAS

The current line-up is:

Sam Cameron — Vocals
Cory Judd — Guitar
Thomas Williams — Guitar
Chris Whitbread — Drums

💀 The Riff Report Says…

If your preferred flavour of metal involves technical riffing, savage vocals, blast-beat warfare and the musical equivalent of being repeatedly launched through a brick wall, The Darkest Side of Humanity deserves your attention.

A Night In Texas aren’t trying to soften the edges here.

They’re sharpening them.

This is ten tracks of bleak, furious and uncompromising modern deathcore, wrapped around some equally uncomfortable observations about humanity itself.

Heavy music from Australia is absolutely thriving right now, and A Night In Texas sound determined to make sure they’re standing right in the middle of the carnage.

Turn it up.

Warn the neighbours.

Move anything breakable away from the speakers.

And brace yourself, mun. 🤘💀🔥

The Darkest Side of Humanity is out now via Unique Leader Records.

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
