Sun’s out, riffs out! It’s time for the June-born legends to party! ☀️🔥
By The Riff Report Blog
June. That glorious time when the sun starts to melt faces and the amps. Festival season kicks off, necks are limber for headbanging, and a whole army of rock and metal legends are smashing birthday cakes instead of hotel rooms (well, maybe both).
From guitar gods to doom kings, glam warriors to grunge icons, June is stacked with chaotic, loud, and leather-clad geniuses born to shred.
So grab your shades, your denim vest, and a slice of cake shaped like a Flying V — it’s time to salute the JUNE ROCK & METAL BIRTHDAY MASSIVE 🎂⚡
🔥 THE RIFF LORDS, GOTH ICONS & PUNK CHAOS BABIES OF JUNE 🎉
🎸 June 1 – Ron Wood (The Rolling Stones)
Born 1947 – The groove master of the Stones. Ronnie made being the “new guy” look cool for 50 years. Has more riffs than you’ve had hot dinners.
🥁 June 2 – Charlie Watts (The Rolling Stones)
Born 1941 – Calm in a storm of chaos. Charlie made drums sexy without ever breaking a sweat. RIP to the smoothest man in rock 🖤
🧟♂️ June 3 – Kerry King (Slayer)
Born 1964 – Bald. Tattooed. Angry. Thrash’s eternal pit boss. Kerry’s riffs sound like a chainsaw learning kung fu. Slayer forever. 🤘🩸
🧨 June 4 – Reeves Gabrels (Tin Machine / Bowie)
Born 1956 – Bowie’s secret weapon and later The Cure’s riff shaman. This man can make a guitar scream, cry, and teleport.
🎤 June 6 – Gary U.S. Bonds
Born 1939 – Okay, a bit more rock’n’roll than metal, but his vibe helped lay the foundation for Bruce Springsteen & co. And that counts.
🔥 June 6 – Steve Vai
Born 1960 – Guitar sorcerer. Notes per second? Infinite. Stage presence? Intergalactic. Plays like a mad scientist made of leather and stardust.
💄 June 8 – Boz Scaggs
Born 1944 – Smooth operator of blues rock. Voice like honey-drenched bourbon. Not heavy — but classy as hell.
👑 June 9 – Matthew Bellamy (Muse)
Born 1978 – Part rockstar, part alien, part conspiracy theorist. Bellamy made prog cool again with a touch of Queen and a gallon of fuzz pedal.
🧛♂️ June 10 – Kim Deal (Pixies / The Breeders)
Born 1961 – Indie rock royalty. Wrote basslines that could break your heart or kick your face in. Sometimes both at once.
🥁 June 10 – Joey Santiago (Pixies)
Born 1965 – Not flashy, but his riffs are nuclear. Invented “noisy pretty” guitar work and influenced literally everyone post-1990.
🦇 June 11 – Frank Beard (ZZ Top)
Born 1949 – The only member without a beard. Go figure. Still, this man grooves like a Harley on heat. La Grange, anyone?
🧙♂️ June 13 – Deniece Williams
Born 1951 – Okay okay — not rock. But Let’s Hear It for the Boy secretly slaps. And someone’s probably covered it in djent by now. 😅
🎤 June 15 – Brad Gillis (Night Ranger / Ozzy Osbourne)
Born 1957 – Gillis stepped in after Randy Rhoads’ tragic passing and nailed it. Shredder with feel. Played like his life depended on it.
⚰️ June 15 – Ice Cube
Born 1969 – Not rock, but if you haven’t screamed “Today Was A Good Day” while blasting Rage Against the Machine, you’re doing it wrong.
🎸 June 16 – Gino Vannelli
Born 1952 – Canadian prog-pop crooner with hair as glorious as his melodies. Definitely looks like he should be in Dream Theater.
💀 June 17 – Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys)
Born 1958 – Punk’s political poet. Sarcastic, scathing, and never short of opinions. Basically your anarchist uncle in a leather jacket.
⚡ June 18 – Paul McCartney (The Beatles)
Born 1942 – Not metal, but without Macca, there’s no rock. Period. His basslines are sacred texts. His voice? Still smoother than most 20-year-olds.
🔥 June 20 – Michael Anthony (Van Halen / Chickenfoot)
Born 1954 – The secret sauce of Van Halen. Those backing vocals? Chef’s kiss. That Jack Daniels bass? Iconic.
🤘 June 22 – Cyndi Lauper
Born 1953 – Yeah, she’s pop… but she did Time After Time AND wrestled in the 80s AND collabed with metal bands. Come on.
🧠 June 22 – Derek Forbes (Simple Minds)
Born 1956 – If you’ve never stomped through Don’t You (Forget About Me) like you were in an ‘80s teen movie, we can’t be friends.
🥁 June 23 – Anthony Jackson
Born 1952 – The bassist’s bassist. If groove was a martial art, this man is Bruce Lee.
🧨 June 24 – Jeff Beck
Born 1944 – Rest in power. The true guitar god. Played like the instrument owed him money. Genre-less. Limitless. Timeless.
💥 June 25 – George Michael
Born 1963 – Oh yes, we’re going there. Faith is a glam-rock banger in disguise. And he owned MTV harder than some ‘80s metal acts. Fight us.
🕶️ June 26 – Chris Isaak
Born 1956 – Suave crooner with a spooky, retro twang. Wicked Game has been covered by 12,000 metalcore bands. Officially honorary doom.
🎉 June 27 – Tobias Forge (Ghost)
Born 1981 – The masked messiah of metal theatre. Forge reinvented arena metal for goths who love ABBA. And it works. Spectacularly.
🧊 June 28 – Mark Stoermer (The Killers)
Born 1977 – The moustache. The tone. The Mr. Brightside intro. Stoermer helped bring bass back to the mainstream.
🔥 June 30 – Phil Anselmo (Pantera / Down)
Born 1968 – The growl. The scowl. The legacy. Say what you will, but Anselmo’s voice defined a generation of groove metal madness.
🧁 HONOURABLE HEADBANGERS:
- James “Munky” Shaffer (KoRn) – June 6
- Dan Tyminski (Union Station / Avicii collab king) – June 20
- Pete Farndon (The Pretenders) – June 12
- Simon Gallup (The Cure) – June 1
- Brian Welch (KoRn) – June 19
- Duffy (Welsh soul-rocker!) – June 23
🎤 FINAL VERDICT:
June-born rockers = absolute chaos with sunburn. From the inventors of punk sarcasm to the masked ghouls of Ghost, this month gave us the perfect blend of sunshine and darkness, riffs and eyeliner, anarchy and melody. 😈☀️
So if your birthday’s in June, congratulations — you’re officially sharing it with guitar gods, goth icons, and metal madmen. Eat cake. Crank your speakers. Set something (figuratively) on fire.
Diolch for reading, you noisy legends!
