The Unholy Return
Slayer. The very name still sends shivers down the spine of metalheads everywhere. For years, we were told it was over. The kings of chaos had laid down their swords after their 2019 farewell tour. The blood had stopped raining. Tom Araya had screamed his last scream. Kerry King had promised a solo band, and fans thought that was it — Slayer were dead and buried.
But in true metal fashion, death was just a coffee break. In 2025, Slayer have risen again, and they’re coming back to the UK in a way only Slayer could — with two monstrous outdoor shows in July. The chosen cities? Cardiff and London. And they’re not coming alone. Oh no, mun. They’re dragging along five support acts to ensure carnage levels are off the charts.
The pits are about to open. The beer will fly. And thousands of metal maniacs will scream in unison: SLAAAAYERRR! 🤘💀
Where & When – The Slayer Pilgrimage
📍 Cardiff
Slayer’s first stop is Wales’ proud capital, Cardiff. Home of rugby, Brains beer, and now, walls of death that’ll shake the foundations of the Principality. The exact venue hasn’t been locked in yet, but all signs point to something big and outdoorsy — think Cardiff Castle, Bute Park, or even the Principality Stadium itself with the roof open to let the flames shoot sky-high.
Cardiff hasn’t seen Slayer in full force for yonks, and the city is already buzzing. Expect hordes of patched-up denim jackets swarming Queen Street, Greggs running out of sausage rolls by midday, and pubs playing Raining Blood on repeat.
📍 London
The second show lands in London, the UK’s metal mecca. Slayer and London go way back — from legendary shows at Brixton Academy to hammering the O2 Arena. But this time it’s outdoors, which means big crowds, more pyro, and pits stretching as far as the eye can see.
Rumours suggest Victoria Park or Hyde Park could host, but knowing Slayer, they might choose somewhere grimier just for the chaos. Wherever it lands, it’ll be a pilgrimage for fans across England, with thousands pouring in ready to raise horns and lose their voices.
Five Support Acts – Who’s on the Bill? 🤘🔥
Here’s where things get juicy. Slayer could’ve easily brought one or two supports. But no. They’ve gone full “let’s melt everyone’s faces off” with a five-band undercard. The official line-up hasn’t dropped yet, but speculation is running wilder than a circle pit at War Ensemble.
Possible Candidates:
- Exodus – The kings of Bay Area thrash, and Gary Holt’s other band. This one feels almost guaranteed. You can’t have Slayer in 2025 without Exodus.
- Testament – Chuck Billy and crew are live monsters. Add them, and you’ve got two-thirds of the “Big Five” of thrash.
- Lamb of God – Slayer’s spiritual successors. Their modern groove-thrash would dovetail perfectly, and Randy Blythe always brings chaos.
- Kreator – If you’re going Euro-thrash, you can’t ignore Germany’s loudest export. Mille Petrozza still rips like it’s 1986.
- Gojira – France’s finest. Heavy, progressive, crushing. Plus, they’re massive in the UK right now.
- Anthrax – Could we see a Big Four crossover? Imagine the pits if Joey Belladonna warms the crowd up.
No matter who fills those slots, one thing’s certain: this is more than a gig. This is a mini-festival of metal, with Slayer as the unholy headliners.
Slayer’s UK History – Chaos and Carnage
Slayer’s relationship with the UK has always been fiery. They cut their teeth in small venues during the 80s, quickly building a cult following thanks to Reign in Blood and South of Heaven. By the 90s, they were Download Festival legends, tearing up Donington with sets that still get talked about today.
- 2004 Download Festival – Slayer turned the second stage into absolute chaos. Fans still brag about surviving that pit.
- 2010 Sonisphere (Big Four) – The only time UK fans got to see Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer on the same bill. Biblical.
- 2018 Final UK Tour – Slayer “said goodbye” with crushing shows in London, Manchester, and Glasgow. Fans cried, fans bled, and fans never believed they’d see them again.
And now, in 2025, the story continues.
The Setlist of Dreams 🎶
Let’s be real, Slayer don’t do ballads. No one’s waiting for an acoustic interlude. We want fast, brutal, neck-snapping thrash. Here’s what we can probably expect:
- Raining Blood 🌧️💀
- Angel of Death
- South of Heaven
- Seasons in the Abyss
- Disciple (God hates us all, remember?)
- War Ensemble
- Hell Awaits
- Dead Skin Mask
- Mandatory Suicide
- Black Magic
If they throw in a surprise deep cut like Captor of Sin or Dittohead, the pits might literally swallow the stadium.
Crowd Mayhem – Cardiff vs London
This is where it gets tasty. Cardiff crowds are notorious for being rowdy. Chuck Slayer into the mix, and you’ve got carnage levels off the charts. Expect Welsh chants between songs (“Slay-yerrr! Slay-yerrr!”), pint-throwing madness, and bin jousting in the car parks after. Only in Wales, mun…
London, meanwhile, will be bigger and more international. Fans flying in from across Europe, pits stretching to the food stalls, and a crowd that’ll probably out-scream the band at points. Both will be chaos, but Cardiff’s got that proper job hometown rage vibe.
Tickets, Prices & VIP Gouge
Tickets will be on sale soon, and let’s be honest — they’ll sell faster than Kerry King can shred a solo.
💷 Price Guesses:
- General Standing – £70–£90
- Seated (London) – £60–£80
- VIP Packages – £200+ (probably including a tote bag, laminate, and the privilege of being ripped off 😂)
Merch will be savage too. Slayer hoodies? £60 minimum. T-shirts? £35–£40. Beer? £8 a pint in Cardiff, £9.50 in London. Start saving now, mun.
Fan Reaction – The Internet Explodes
The second Slayer announced these shows, metal Twitter (sorry, “X”) went into meltdown. Memes of Tom Araya rising from a coffin. TikToks of fans practising walls of death in their gardens. Reddit threads 200 comments deep arguing over who the supports will be.
And in Wales? Fans were already chanting in the pubs:
“Slayer are back mun! Proper job!”
Why This Matters
In 2025, metal is thriving. Festivals are stacked, younger bands are carrying the torch, and the Big Four still loom large. But Slayer’s return feels different. It’s not just nostalgia. It’s not just a reunion cash grab. It’s a reminder of why this band defined thrash metal for decades.
From Show No Mercy in 1983 to Repentless in 2015, Slayer have been the soundtrack to rebellion, fury, and pure catharsis. Their return to the UK — and especially Wales — isn’t just another gig. It’s an event of biblical proportions.
So sharpen your spikes, sew on your patches, and prepare your necks. The unholy storm is coming.
Final Thoughts
Slayer’s July 2025 outdoor UK shows in Cardiff and London are set to be the biggest metal events of the summer. With five support acts, legendary pits, and the promise of setlists dripping with classics, it’s going to be chaos in its purest, loudest form.
See you in the pit, mun. 🤘💀🔥
