The Prince of Darkness has always drawn a crowd โ but this time, itโs not for a gig. Itโs for something far more heartfelt. ๐ฅ
As Birmingham opens a public Book of Condolence for Ozzy Osbourne, fans from across the UK (and beyond!) are descending on the city that birthed metal to pay their respects to one of the most iconic frontmen in rock history. From Digbeth to Dudley, from Osaka to Oklahoma โ theyโre coming in their thousands. And The Riff Report Blog will be right there in the thick of it. ๐คโ๏ธ
๐ด Born in Brum, Worshipped Worldwide
Ozzyโs connection to Birmingham runs deeper than just birthplace pride โ this is the city where Sabbath shook the earth, where heavy metal was forged in the fires of working-class grit and Brummie brilliance. Now, that same city is opening its arms for the grieving metal masses, with flowers piling up beneath murals, candles flickering outside music venues, and punters swapping stories like war veterans of the mosh. ๐ธ
โHe gave us a voice. A loud, mad, bit sweary voice โ but it was ours,โ one local fan told The Riff Report with tears in her eyes and a pint in her hand.
๐ Book of Condolence Opens
Set up at Birmingham Council House, the Book of Condolence is already overflowing with tributes from fans, musicians, and even old pub landlords who remember the young John Michael Osbourne before he became The Blizzard of Ozz. Youโll find heartfelt messages, wild gig memories, and probably a few doodles of flying bats. ๐ฆโ๏ธ
Weโll be taking a proper nose through the book, grabbing quotes, and sharing the most rock โnโ roll entries with you lovely lot. If youโve got something you want included but canโt make the pilgrimage, diolch butt โ we got you. Drop us a message and weโll scribble it in for you (with proper Brummie flair, promise). ๐ค
๐ Global Pilgrimage
Itโs not just locals showing up. Metalheads have flown in from Germany, Brazil, Canada, and even Japan, just to stand on Ozzyโs turf. Some are dressed in full Sabbath-era cosplay, others in battered tour shirts held together with beer and nostalgia. We even met one absolute legend who got a tattoo of the Birmingham skyline with Ozzyโs silhouette on the flight. ๐ซ๐ค
โI never got to say thanks to him for saving my life with his music,โ said Diego from Sรฃo Paulo. โThis is the least I can do.โ
๐ฐ What Weโre Doing
The Riff Report will be live on the scene, documenting it all โ the tears, the tales, the tattoos, the tunes. Expect photos, interviews, fan tributes, and possibly one or two โCrazy Trainโ singalongs breaking out in the street.
Weโll be posting updates all day on

๐ฏ๏ธ A City in Mourning, a World in Reverence
This isnโt just a book in a room. Itโs a living, breathing scrapbook of metal history, a heartfelt goodbye to a legend who never really left the stage โ even when he literally had to be carried off it. ๐
So if youโre in Brum, come down and scrawl something raw and real. And if youโre not, let us be your pen and your voice. Weโll be lighting a candle, raising a pint, and screaming โScream for me Birmingham!โ one last time. ๐ค๐ป
Stay tuned for the full tribute post.
Rest easy, Ozzy. You were mad as a box of frogsโฆ and we loved you for it. ๐ฆ๐ค
