Letโs be honest, mun โ most so-called โmetal journalismโ these days is about as useful as a chocolate teapot in a mosh pit. ๐ซ Instead of celebrating the thunder, sweat, and glorious chaos of heavy music, you get:
- Recycled press releases dressed up as โexclusive scoopsโ ๐ฐ
- Five-line โreviewsโ that sound like they were written on the bog between TikTok scrolls ๐ฝ
- Endless clickbait lists of โ10 Metal Bands That Wear Blackโ (no s**t, Sherlock) ๐
- Journos who clearly havenโt set foot in a sticky-floored venue since Kerrang! was actually good
The scene deserves better. Fans deserve better. Bands definitely deserve better.
Whatโs Wrong With Metal Journalism? ๐ค
- Corporate Suck-Ups โ Too many writers lick the labelโs boots instead of calling a spade a spade. โGroundbreaking new albumโ? More like โthe same riffs reheated with extra autotune.โ
- No Scene Love โ UK mags will write about Metallicaโs toenail clippings but ignore the insane underground shows happening in Cardiff, Glasgow, or Wolverhampton. Whereโs the coverage for the bands slogging their way up the ladder?
- Generic Reviews โ Ever noticed how every review reads the same? โCrushing riffs,โ โface-melting solos,โ โstadium-ready anthems.โ Sounds lush until you realise they said the exact same thing about five different albums this month.
- Dead Behind The Eyes โ Too many journos arenโt even fans. Theyโre media grads whoโd be just as happy writing about knitwear as Napalm Death. You can feel the lack of passion.
Enter: The Riff Report ๐ด
Thatโs where we come storming in, pint in one hand and pen in the other. ๐บโ๏ธ The Riff Report isnโt here to polish turds โ weโre here to shout, rant, laugh, and properly celebrate this mad, noisy world of rock and metal.
Hereโs how weโre changing the game:
- Fan First, Always. Every post is written like weโre down the front row with you, not sat in some sterile office. ๐ค
- Honesty Over Hype. If a band stank on stage, weโll say it. If they blew our heads clean off, weโll scream it louder than their amps.
- Welsh Flavour. Weโre proudly Cymraeg, mun โ sprinkling our posts with โtidy!โ and โcโmon butt!โ because metal is local and global.
- Covering the Forgotten. From sweaty pub gigs to festival car park madness, weโll give love to the bands the big boys ignore.
- Having a Laugh. Metal is supposed to be fun. Expect mosh pit etiquette guides, tales of bin jousting, and reviews of overpriced festival burgers. ๐
Why Bother? ๐ค
Because metal journalism shouldnโt be boring, beige, or bought. It should be loud, passionate, slightly unhinged, and written with the same spirit as the music itself.
Weโre not trying to be โprofessional.โ Weโre trying to be real. Journalism that feels like your mate in the pub raving about the gig you missed, or that bloke in the denim vest whoโs been following Maiden since โ82 and still shouts โUP THE IRONS!โ every time he walks into the chippy.
Thatโs metal. Thatโs us. Thatโs The Riff Report.
So, Whatโs Occurring Next? โก
Weโre building a place where fans can rant, rave, and roll their eyes at the madness of the rock world. Reviews with attitude. Guides with grit. Histories told with humour.
No arselicking. No beige. Just riffs, passion, and the occasional swear.
Metal Journalism might be trashโฆ but weโre here to drag it out of the bin, dust it off, and give it a bloody good kick into life.
Diolch for sticking with us, legends. Stay loud, stay daft, and never trust a sober review. ๐ค๐ฅ
