Breakdowns, Emotion, Chaos And A Donington Crowd Properly Flattened

Some bands ease into a festival set.

LANDMVRKS do not.

LANDMVRKS walk onto a stage, plug in, and suddenly it feels like someone has launched a concrete mixer full of riffs directly into your chest.

Taking to the Apex Stage at Download Festival 2026 on Saturday afternoon, the French metalcore bruisers brought exactly what Donington needed after a bright, bouncy lunchtime burst from South Arcade: something heavier, sharper, nastier and ready to drag the crowd straight back into pit territory.

This was not polite metalcore.

This was not “stand still and admire the tone” behaviour.

This was sweat, screams, groove, bounce, emotional damage and breakdowns landing like industrial equipment being dropped from a crane.

And fair play, butt — LANDMVRKS absolutely smashed it.

Saturday Afternoon Gets A Proper Kick In The Teeth 💥

The Apex Stage had already had a strong Saturday start.

Thornhill opened with dark, stylish heaviness.
South Arcade followed with colourful pop-rock sparkle.
Then LANDMVRKS turned up and basically said:

“Lovely stuff. Now let’s break the floor.”

That 1:15pm slot hit a sweet spot. The crowd was awake, the arena was filling nicely, and the Donington Saturday energy was starting to properly bubble. People had got through the morning haze, found their mates, grabbed food, complained about the price of everything, and were ready for something with a bit of bite.

LANDMVRKS brought the bite.

Actually, they brought the whole jaw.

From the opening moments, the band sounded absolutely huge. Tight, focused, aggressive and full of momentum, they made the Apex Stage feel less like a sunny festival field and more like a pressure chamber with guitar amps.

It was glorious.

“Creature” Opens The Cage 🐺

Opening with “Creature” was the perfect way to set the tone.

There is something properly physical about LANDMVRKS live. Their songs do not just play out of the speakers — they move through the crowd. The drums hit hard, the guitars churn, the vocals cut, and that mixture of metalcore precision and emotional intensity makes everything feel bigger than just another heavy set.

“Creature” gave the crowd an immediate jolt.

Heads snapped forward. Arms went up. The early pit movement started. People who had wandered over casually suddenly had that look on their faces that said, “Oh right, these lot are not messing about.”

That is exactly what you want from an Apex Stage slot.

LANDMVRKS did not slowly win the crowd.

They grabbed it by the collar.

The Setlist: Short, Sharp And Absolutely Lethal 🔥

With a 45-minute slot, LANDMVRKS kept the set focused and punishing.

The reported setlist was:

Creature
Death
Blistering
A Line in the Dust
Sulfur
La valse du temps
Lost in a Wave
Blood Red
Self-Made Black Hole

That is a proper festival setlist.

It had the newer material.
It had the fan favourites.
It had enough heaviness to wake the campsites.
It had emotional weight.
It had pit fuel.
It had a final stretch that felt absolutely massive.

No filler. No wasted motion. No awkward mid-set sag.

Just LANDMVRKS doing what they do best: balancing crushing heaviness with melody, atmosphere and raw feeling.

“Death” And “Blistering” Bring The Early Violence ⚡

After “Creature,” LANDMVRKS did not take their foot off the accelerator.

“Death” came in with serious force, pushing the intensity up and giving the crowd something heavier to throw themselves into. The band’s strength is that they can sound savage without turning into noise. There is control behind the chaos. Everything hits hard because everything is locked in.

Then “Blistering” kept the pressure high.

This was the point where the set started to feel properly dangerous. Not dangerous in a bad way, but in that Download sense where the field begins to shift, pits start forming, and everyone collectively realises the afternoon has turned a corner.

LANDMVRKS have that brilliant ability to make metalcore feel urgent. It does not feel over-polished or overly safe. It has grit. It has movement. It has that “go on then, try and keep up” energy.

Donington tried.

Donington mostly succeeded.

But mun, the band made everyone work for it.

Florent Salfati Is A Monster Frontman 🎤

Let’s talk about the vocals.

Florent Salfati is an absolute force live.

He has the kind of range and presence that makes LANDMVRKS stand apart from the metalcore crowd. The screams are vicious, the cleans cut through, and the rap-influenced flow gives certain songs a bounce that makes them feel more unpredictable than your standard breakdown machine.

On the Apex Stage, he sounded fired up.

He did not just stand there barking into the mic. He moved with the songs, pulled the crowd in, pushed the energy up, and made the set feel personal as well as punishing. That matters with a band like LANDMVRKS because their music is not just built on heaviness — it is built on release.

There is frustration in it.
There is pain in it.
There is confidence in it.
There is that feeling of a band turning pressure into movement.

Florent carried all of that brilliantly.

Proper frontman energy.

“A Line In The Dust” Brings The Drama 🌪️

“A Line in the Dust” gave the set a darker, more dramatic lift.

This is where LANDMVRKS showed that they are not only about brute force. Yes, the heaviness is there, but the atmosphere matters too. The song has shape, tension and that cinematic metalcore edge that makes it feel bigger in a festival setting.

At Download, it landed with real weight.

The guitars had bite, the rhythms were tight, and the vocals brought that emotional pull that makes the band’s heavier moments hit even harder. It was one of those tracks where the crowd stopped just reacting and started properly locking in.

That is the LANDMVRKS trick.

They can flatten you with a breakdown, then pull you into something more emotional before smashing the door off again.

Tidy work, butt.

“Sulfur” Gets A Red Arrows Moment ✈️🔥

Then came one of those mad festival moments you could not script if you tried.

“Sulfur” hit during the set — and with a Red Arrows flypast happening, the whole thing suddenly felt like LANDMVRKS had accidentally been given their own metalcore air show.

Only at Download, mun.

There was something brilliantly absurd about it. A French metalcore band tearing through the Apex Stage while jets sliced through the sky? That is the kind of Donington memory people will be bringing up for years in campsite conversations.

“Remember when LANDMVRKS played and the Red Arrows turned up?”

It gave the song an extra sense of scale. Already heavy, already intense, already huge — then the sky joined in.

You cannot buy that kind of timing.

It was ridiculous.

It was brilliant.

It was Download.

“La valse du temps” Adds The Atmosphere 🖤

After the impact of “Sulfur,” “La valse du temps” brought a different shade to the set.

LANDMVRKS are excellent at weaving emotional and atmospheric moments into heavy music without losing momentum. This track gave the performance a more haunting edge, letting the crowd breathe slightly while still keeping the tension alive.

That is an important part of why the band are so effective.

A lesser band might just batter the crowd with breakdown after breakdown until everything becomes one grey blur of chugs and shouting. LANDMVRKS understand dynamics. They know when to pull things back, when to let the mood settle, and when to strike again.

“La valse du temps” gave the set depth.

It showed that the band can be heavy, yes, but also expressive.

And that is where the best modern metalcore lives.

“Lost In A Wave” Sends Donington Over The Edge 🌊

Then came “Lost in a Wave.”

Come on now.

This was always going to be one of the big moments.

The moment that track arrived, the Apex Stage crowd properly kicked up. “Lost in a Wave” is a modern LANDMVRKS anthem — huge, emotional, aggressive and built for exactly this kind of festival reaction.

The chorus soared. The heavy parts landed. The crowd response went up another level.

This was one of those moments where fans who had been waiting for the song exploded, while newer listeners got a pretty clear demonstration of why LANDMVRKS have become such a serious name in modern heavy music.

It has everything: melody, anger, bounce, atmosphere and a chorus that feels absolutely massive in the open air.

At Donington, it sounded enormous.

A proper highlight.

“Blood Red” Keeps The Pressure On 🩸

After “Lost in a Wave,” it would have been easy for the set to dip.

LANDMVRKS did not let that happen.

“Blood Red” came in with another blast of modern metalcore power, keeping the crowd moving and making sure the final stretch stayed vicious. It had that darker edge, that physical weight, and that urgent drive that LANDMVRKS do so well.

By this stage, the crowd was fully on board.

The curious watchers had been converted.
The fans were deep in it.
The pits had been fed.
The Apex Stage had gone from Saturday afternoon crowd to full heavy-music release.

“Blood Red” felt like LANDMVRKS tightening the screws one more time before the finale.

No mercy.

Lovely stuff.

“Self-Made Black Hole” Ends It With A Blast 🌌

Closing with “Self-Made Black Hole” was a huge move.

The song already carries that gigantic, crushing, emotionally-charged energy, and on the Apex Stage it felt like the perfect ending. Heavy enough to leave a bruise, melodic enough to stay in your head, and big enough to make the whole set feel like it had built towards something.

The reported dedication to Architects also gave it an extra layer.

In a festival weekend where modern heavy music had such a massive presence across the bill, that nod felt meaningful. Architects are a huge part of the British metalcore story, and LANDMVRKS are very much part of the European wave pushing the scene forward now.

It felt like a passing of energy, not in a cheesy way, but in the sense that Download is no longer just about old legends and heritage acts.

The future is here.

And it sounds massive.

“Self-Made Black Hole” closed the set with the kind of force that leaves people shouting, clapping and immediately checking when they can see the band again.

Why LANDMVRKS Belong On The Apex Stage 🤘

LANDMVRKS worked so well on the Apex Stage because they brought modern metalcore with personality.

That is the key.

There are plenty of bands who can be heavy. There are plenty of bands who can shout, breakdown and throw shapes. But LANDMVRKS have identity. They have groove. They have emotional range. They have that French metalcore flair that makes them sound recognisable in a scene that can sometimes get crowded.

They are not just another band in black T-shirts throwing down.

They have songs.

Big ones.

Songs that hit in the pit and stick in the head. Songs that move between aggression, melody, rap flow and atmosphere without feeling stitched together. Songs that make sense on a huge stage but still feel personal.

That is why this set mattered.

LANDMVRKS did not just fill a slot.

They made a statement.

The Crowd Reaction: From Fired Up To Fully Flattened 🙌

The Apex Stage crowd gave them exactly the response they deserved.

There was movement early, and then the energy built song by song. By the time the set hit its later stretch, Donington was properly into it. Raised hands, pits, heads banging, fans screaming words back, and that familiar festival look of people realising they are watching a band absolutely level up in real time.

It did not feel like an early afternoon filler slot.

It felt like a band ready for bigger things.

And that is one of the best parts of Download. You get to see bands move up the ladder in front of your eyes. Today’s afternoon destroyers become tomorrow’s bigger-stage monsters, and LANDMVRKS looked very much like a band climbing fast.

The crowd knew it.

The band knew it.

The Apex Stage felt it.

Final Verdict: LANDMVRKS Tore The Apex Stage A New One 🔥

LANDMVRKS on the Apex Stage at Download Festival 2026 was a thunderous, sharp and seriously impressive set from one of modern metalcore’s most exciting bands.

They brought heaviness without losing melody.
They brought atmosphere without losing impact.
They brought breakdowns without sounding generic.
They brought emotion without getting soft.
They brought enough energy to make Saturday afternoon feel like peak-time chaos.

From “Creature” through to “Self-Made Black Hole,” the set was packed with force, focus and proper festival moments — including that brilliantly bonkers Red Arrows flypast during “Sulfur,” which made the whole thing feel even more legendary.

This was not just a good set.

This was a warning shot.

LANDMVRKS are not waiting politely outside the big stage conversation anymore. They are kicking the door open, throwing a breakdown through the window and making sure everyone at Donington knows exactly who they are.

Proper job, mun.

The Riff Report Rating: 8.5/10

French metalcore fury, emotional hooks, pit-ready breakdowns and a Red Arrows moment for the ages. LANDMVRKS absolutely battered the Apex Stage. 🤘🔥

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
