🧬 CARCASS – FROM MORGUE TO METAL MASTERCLASS
Genre: Grindcore → Death Metal → Melodic Death Metal → Surgical Groove Machine
Formed: 1985 – Liverpool, England 🇬🇧
Known For: Inventing goregrind, perfecting death metal, and then making it catchy AF.
Also Known For: Being banned, misunderstood, and utterly essential.
⚰️ WHO THE BLOODY HELL ARE CARCASS?
Originally a crust punk experiment in vomit, Carcass was formed by Bill Steer (Napalm Death alum) and Ken Owen before recruiting Jeff Walker and making it their mission to make metal more disgusting, more technical, and more intelligent all at once.
They literally invented “goregrind”, inspired a thousand bands, then said “sod it” and went full melodeath mastermind mode.
In short: They started in the morgue, ended in the hall of fame.
🔪 CURRENT LINE-UP – THE SURGICAL SQUAD
- Jeff Walker – Bass/Vocals / Sarcastic snarler and lyrical butcher
- Bill Steer – Guitars/Vocals / Riff surgeon. Bluesy death metal god
- Daniel Wilding – Drums / Blastbeat precision engineer
- Tom Draper – Guitars (Live) / Newest axe-wielder in the body farm
Original drummer Ken Owen sadly stepped down due to health issues post-2000, but remains a beloved and integral part of Carcass history.

🧠 WHY CARCASS STILL SLICES IN 2025:
Because they:
- Invented a whole subgenre (goregrind)
- Elevated death metal into an art form
- Sound tighter now than ever before
- **Proved that you can make surgical vocabulary sound METAL AS HELL
- Went from disgusting to iconic without losing an ounce of edge
And because every Carcass album feels like a dissection – of society, the body, and your eardrums.
🎤 FINAL VERDICT FROM THE RIFF REPORT:
Carcass are the thinking man’s death metal band.
Equal parts slasher flick, science textbook, and riff bible, they’ve carved a legacy that goes beyond brutality – it’s brilliance wrapped in blood.
