🎤💔 Absolutely disgraceful, butt! A stunning memorial mural celebrating the life of Welsh rock icon BONNIE TYLER has been targeted with eggs just days after being unveiled in her beloved hometown of Skewen, near Neath. The artwork, created by talented Welsh street artist Steve ‘Jenks’ Jenkins, was commissioned to honour the legendary singer following her death in July 2026. Now, South Wales Police are investigating after Coedffranc Town Council reported that a group of youths had been filmed throwing eggs at the tribute and kicking doors at the nearby Memorial Hall.

Thankfully, the mural has since been cleaned, but the incident has cast a shadow over what should have been a beautiful celebration of one of Cymru’s greatest musical exports. And with Bonnie’s final studio recording, ‘Love, Light and Peace’, due for release on 13 November, the timing feels particularly sad.

Well, Riff Report crew.

Sometimes a news story comes along that leaves you shaking your head in disbelief.

And this is certainly one of them.

A community comes together to celebrate one of its most famous daughters.

A talented artist spends five days creating an extraordinary tribute.

Residents stop to admire the painting and share their memories.

And just days after the finished artwork is revealed, somebody decides throwing eggs at it would be a good idea.

What the bloody hell is wrong with people, mun?

The mural celebrating the late, great Bonnie Tyler has been targeted in her hometown of Skewen, Neath Port Talbot.

The artwork was commissioned by Coedffranc Town Council and painted on the side of the Memorial Hall at Skewen Memorial Park.

It was intended to provide a permanent tribute to the singer whose unmistakable voice brought international attention to a small South Wales community.

But the town council has now reported an incident involving a group of youths throwing eggs at the painting.

The group were also reported to have kicked doors while people were inside the building.

South Wales Police are investigating the circumstances as potential anti-social behaviour offences.

And while the artwork has thankfully been cleaned, the incident has understandably raised concerns about respecting community spaces and memorials.

Because this wasn’t just another painting on a wall.

It was a tribute to a woman who remained proud of her Welsh roots throughout an extraordinary international career.

🚨 What Happened To The Bonnie Tyler Mural?

According to information released by Coedffranc Town Council and reported on 5 November 2026, a group of young people were filmed throwing eggs at the newly completed mural.

The artwork is located on the side of the Memorial Hall in Skewen Memorial Park, off Wern Road.

The council also reported that doors at the building had been kicked while people were inside.

The matter has been referred to South Wales Police, who are investigating possible anti-social behaviour offences.

At the time of writing, no arrests or charges have been publicly confirmed in connection with the reported incident.

The identities of those involved have not been officially established.

And that’s an important point.

Although the council has referred to video footage of a group of youths, members of the public have been urged not to speculate about individual identities.

👮 Council Urges Public Not To Share Names Or Videos

Coedffranc Town Council has asked residents to avoid circulating identifying details, photographs or video clips of those believed to be involved.

The concern is that public speculation could interfere with the police investigation.

Residents who have information are being encouraged to pass it directly to the police rather than starting their own investigations through social media.

And that’s absolutely the right approach.

People are understandably disappointed about what happened.

But there is a difference between expressing frustration and publicly accusing somebody without the full facts.

Let the police investigate, butt.

If somebody has useful evidence, it should go to the people responsible for examining it properly.

📞 How To Report Information

Anyone with relevant information about the incident can contact:

South Wales Police: 101

Information can also be submitted online through the official South Wales Police website.

Website: https://www.south-wales.police.uk/

When contacting police, provide the location and explain that the information relates to the Bonnie Tyler mural incident at Skewen Memorial Hall.

❤️ The Good News – Bonnie’s Mural Has Already Been Cleaned!

Thankfully, there is some positive news.

The mural has since been cleaned.

That means the tribute has not simply been left covered in eggs following the incident.

And that’s an important development.

Because the artwork is something the community should be able to enjoy.

It represents Bonnie’s musical achievements, her connection to Skewen and the pride that many local people feel in her extraordinary career.

The fact that the mural has been cleaned means visitors can continue appreciating the tribute as intended.

It’s also worth remembering that an artist spent considerable time creating it.

Five days of work.

An enormous amount of preparation.

And a design carefully developed to reflect Bonnie’s life and legacy.

Whatever somebody thinks of public artwork, throwing eggs at a memorial isn’t a particularly constructive way of expressing an opinion.

A little respect costs absolutely nothing, mun.

And fortunately, the artwork remains in place.

🎨 Meet Steve ‘Jenks’ Jenkins – The Welsh Artist Behind The Tribute

Now, let’s talk about something far more positive.

The artwork itself.

Because Bonnie Tyler’s mural is a beautiful example of how street art can celebrate local history and community identity.

The painting was created by Welsh artist Steve Jenkins, better known professionally as Jenks.

Jenks has developed a reputation for producing large-scale murals across South Wales, often celebrating notable local figures, communities and cultural landmarks.

For the Bonnie Tyler project, he was commissioned by Coedffranc Town Council to create a memorial in the village where the singer grew up.

The mural took five days to complete.

And the finished painting is far more thoughtful than a straightforward celebrity portrait.

It contains several deliberate artistic details designed to reflect Bonnie’s life.

🖤 Half Black And White, Half Colour – The Meaning Behind The Mural

One of the most distinctive features of the painting is Bonnie’s face.

One half is presented in black and white.

The other appears in colour.

And that wasn’t an accidental design choice.

According to Jenks, the black-and-white half represents the memorial aspect of the artwork.

The coloured half symbolises the way Bonnie continues living through her music.

It’s a simple but powerful concept.

A life that has ended, but a musical legacy that continues.

And considering how many people still listen to Bonnie’s recordings, that idea feels particularly appropriate.

🌸 A Beautiful Tribute To Skewen

The painting also incorporates scenery inspired by the surrounding area.

There are green fields.

A blossoming tree.

A colourful sky.

And a red heart carrying Bonnie’s name.

The background includes imagery associated with Skewen Park, connecting the internationally famous singer with the place she always regarded as home.

It’s an important detail.

Because this isn’t simply a portrait of a famous musician.

It’s a portrait celebrating a musician’s relationship with her community.

And for somebody who grew up in Skewen before achieving worldwide success, that connection is particularly meaningful.

🎨 Five Days Of Hard Work

When the mural was first revealed, Jenks spoke warmly about the experience.

He expressed gratitude to the town council and residents who had shown interest while the painting was being completed.

For five days, he worked on the wall as local people stopped to watch the tribute taking shape.

And that is one of the most wonderful things about public art.

People get to witness the creative process.

They watch an ordinary wall transform into something meaningful.

And eventually the finished artwork becomes part of the community.

A little piece of local history, painted for everybody to enjoy.

That’s why the reported incident is so disappointing.

The mural represents care, effort and remembrance.

And those things deserve better than a few flying eggs.

🐉 Skewen – The Welsh Village That Gave The World Bonnie Tyler!

Now then, here’s where we need to remember why this mural matters so much.

Because Bonnie Tyler wasn’t simply a famous singer who happened to come from Wales.

She was a proud daughter of Skewen.

Born Gaynor Hopkins on 8 June 1951, Bonnie grew up in the Neath Port Talbot village as one of six children.

Her father worked as a coal miner, and her upbringing was rooted in the working-class communities of South Wales.

Long before the international success, enormous record sales and television appearances, she was a young girl with an extraordinary voice and a passion for singing.

Her musical journey began through local performances and the Welsh entertainment circuit.

And like so many musicians who eventually achieve international recognition, she had to work hard to establish herself.

There were no enormous stadiums at the beginning.

No worldwide television audiences.

Just talent.

Ambition.

And the determination to build a musical career.

🎤 From Welsh Clubs To International Stardom

Bonnie’s breakthrough came during the 1970s.

She adopted the professional name Bonnie Tyler and began releasing music that showcased her distinctive voice.

The song Lost In France became her first major UK chart success in 1976.

It introduced listeners to a singer whose husky vocals sounded unlike most of the pop artists dominating the charts.

And the success continued.

Her 1977 album The World Starts Tonight helped establish her recording career.

Then came another enormous hit.

It’s A Heartache.

Released in 1977, the song became a major international success.

It reached Number Four in the United Kingdom and Number Three on the American Billboard Hot 100.

Suddenly, a singer from a small Welsh village was becoming recognised around the world.

But her biggest success was still ahead.

🌑 Total Eclipse Of The Heart – The Song That Made Bonnie Tyler A Global Icon!

If there’s one song that will forever be associated with Bonnie Tyler, it’s Total Eclipse Of The Heart.

Released in 1983, the power ballad became one of the defining songs of the decade.

Written and produced by the legendary Jim Steinman, it combined enormous theatrical arrangements with Bonnie’s unmistakably emotional vocal delivery.

The dramatic introduction.

The sweeping instrumentation.

The soaring chorus.

And that extraordinary vocal performance.

It’s a song that doesn’t believe in doing anything by halves.

And we absolutely love it for that.

The recording reached Number One in both the United Kingdom and United States.

It also helped propel Bonnie’s album Faster Than The Speed Of Night to the top of the UK Albums Chart.

That album remains an important part of Welsh music history.

And more than four decades later, Total Eclipse Of The Heart continues reaching new generations.

It appears in films.

Television programmes.

Social media videos.

And karaoke sessions where somebody has had just enough confidence-building drinks to believe they can reproduce Bonnie’s enormous vocal performance.

We’ve all heard one of those attempts at the pub, butt! 😂

But joking aside, the song remains an extraordinary achievement.

And it’s one of the reasons Bonnie’s legacy extends far beyond the village where she was born.

🦸 Holding Out For A Hero – Another Rock Anthem For The Ages!

Of course, we can’t talk about Bonnie Tyler without mentioning Holding Out For A Hero.

Originally associated with the 1984 film Footloose, the song became another of her signature recordings.

And what an anthem it is!

The pounding rhythm.

The enormous production.

The dramatic vocals.

And a chorus that practically demands to be screamed at the top of your lungs.

It’s a masterpiece of gloriously over-the-top 1980s rock-pop songwriting.

And Bonnie’s voice was absolutely perfect for it.

The song later enjoyed renewed popularity through film, television and advertising.

And its dramatic energy helped introduce Bonnie to listeners who might not have grown up with her original recordings.

Her career also included hits such as If You Were A Woman (And I Was A Man), Here She Comes and Bitterblue.

Over five decades, she continued recording and performing internationally.

And despite achieving enormous fame, her Welsh roots remained an important part of her identity.

That’s something worth celebrating.

Because musicians from Wales have made extraordinary contributions to rock and popular music.

And Bonnie Tyler belongs among the most recognisable names on that list.

🖤 Remembering Bonnie Tyler – Wales Lost A Musical Legend In July 2026

The mural has particular emotional significance because it was commissioned following Bonnie’s death earlier this year.

The singer died on 8 July 2026, aged 75, while receiving treatment for an illness in Portugal.

Her passing prompted tributes from fans, fellow musicians and public figures around the world.

For many people, the news marked the loss of one of the most recognisable voices in British music.

But here in Wales, it felt particularly personal.

Because Bonnie wasn’t simply an international star.

She was Gaynor from Skewen.

A local girl who achieved extraordinary things without losing her connection to home.

❤️ A Final Journey Through Skewen

In August, the community came together to say goodbye.

Bonnie’s funeral arrangements included a public celebration of her life at Swansea Minster on 17 August 2026.

Fans gathered to pay their respects.

Her funeral procession later travelled through Skewen, where local people lined the streets.

It was an emotional moment for a community saying farewell to one of its most famous residents.

And it demonstrated something important.

Despite all the international success, Bonnie’s connection to her hometown had never disappeared.

That is why the new mural matters so much.

It gives residents somewhere to remember her.

A place to celebrate her achievements.

And an artwork that can introduce younger generations to the extraordinary story of somebody who grew up in the same community they call home.

That’s a legacy worth looking after.

🎄 Bonnie Tyler’s Final Song ‘Love, Light And Peace’ Arrives On 13 November!

There is another particularly emotional development in Bonnie’s story.

Her final studio recording is scheduled for release on Friday 13 November 2026.

The song is titled:

Love, Light And Peace.

And considering the events surrounding the mural, that title feels especially poignant.

The Christmas single was recorded during Bonnie’s final studio session in December 2025.

It was written by Chrissie Hammond and Terry Britten, with production by Britten and longtime Bonnie collaborator David Mackay.

The recording represents a remarkable full-circle moment.

Britten had worked with Bonnie during the early stages of her career, including contributing guitar to her 1977 debut album.

Nearly five decades later, he returned to help create what would become her final studio recording.

❤️ A Final Musical Message

The song carries a festive message of kindness, peace and love.

And its release has been supported by Bonnie’s husband, Robert Sullivan, who has spoken movingly about how much he misses her.

He has also emphasised Bonnie’s extraordinary dedication to music and her fans.

Even during the later stages of her career, she continued recording, developing new material and planning performances.

Her final recording will now give listeners another opportunity to hear that unmistakable voice.

And the song’s message feels particularly relevant.

Love. Light. Peace.

Three simple words.

Three things that communities everywhere could probably use a little more of.

Especially when people are trying to honour somebody they loved and respected.

🎶 How To Hear The Final Single

Release date: Friday 13 November 2026

Song: Love, Light And Peace

Artist: Bonnie Tyler

Official website: https://bonnietyler.com/

Pre-save: https://bonnie.lnk.to/LoveLightAndPeace

The single will arrive during what would have been Bonnie’s European Jubilee Tour, celebrating 50 years since her original chart breakthrough with Lost In France.

Instead, fans will have the opportunity to celebrate that milestone through her final recording.

And we reckon that deserves plenty of support.

🎨 Why Public Murals Matter To Welsh Communities

Now, here’s something worth discussing.

Public artwork can sometimes be taken for granted.

People walk past murals on their way to work.

They see them while visiting local parks.

Or they become so familiar that residents eventually stop noticing them.

But murals can serve an important purpose.

They celebrate local history.

Recognise notable people.

Brighten public spaces.

And provide communities with a shared sense of identity.

Across Wales, artists have been creating extraordinary public tributes to musicians, sportspeople and cultural figures.

And those artworks can become landmarks in their own right.

For younger generations, they can also spark curiosity.

A child walking through Skewen Park might see Bonnie’s enormous portrait and ask who she was.

That question could lead to discovering her music.

Learning about her career.

And understanding that somebody from their own village became an internationally recognised performer.

That’s the sort of thing that can inspire people.

Because sometimes seeing somebody from your own community achieve extraordinary success makes your own ambitions feel a little more possible.

And that’s a powerful message.

Greatness can come from anywhere.

A small Welsh village.

A working-class family.

A local music club.

Or a young singer practising songs at home.

Bonnie’s story proves that.

And her mural helps keep that story alive.

🐉 The Riff Report’s Message – Respect Our Artists, Respect Our Communities!

Here at The Riff Report, supporting Welsh music isn’t something we do only when a major festival announces a headliner.

It’s about celebrating the entire musical community.

The legends.

The emerging bands.

The independent artists.

The venues.

The photographers.

And everybody else who helps make Cymru’s music scene special.

It’s also about recognising the people who shaped Welsh music history.

And Bonnie Tyler certainly deserves that recognition.

She helped put Welsh talent on the international map.

Her music reached millions of people.

And her extraordinary career inspired countless singers and performers.

So seeing a memorial to her targeted, however briefly, is disappointing.

But here’s the encouraging part.

The mural has been cleaned, and the tribute remains.

The hard work that went into creating it hasn’t disappeared.

The artistic message is still there.

And residents can continue celebrating Bonnie’s achievements.

That’s worth remembering.

One thoughtless incident doesn’t define a community.

The kindness, creativity and pride that led to the mural being commissioned are far more important.

And those are the things we hope people will remember.

🔥 The Riff Report Verdict – You Can Throw Eggs At A Wall, But You Can’t Damage Bonnie’s Legacy!

Well, butt.

What a sad little episode in what should have been a joyful tribute.

An artist spends five days creating something meaningful.

A community celebrates one of its greatest musical success stories.

And then a group decides to throw eggs at it.

It’s disappointing.

It’s unnecessary.

And it shows very little consideration for the people who worked to create the mural.

But thankfully, the story doesn’t end there.

The artwork has been cleaned.

South Wales Police are investigating.

And the council has encouraged residents to pass on relevant information responsibly rather than spreading accusations online.

That’s the sensible way forward.

Because the real story here shouldn’t be about the people responsible for an act of anti-social behaviour.

It should be about Bonnie Tyler.

A girl from Skewen who became one of the most recognisable voices in rock and popular music.

A singer whose songs have crossed generations.

A Welsh performer who achieved extraordinary international success.

And somebody whose hometown wanted to honour her with a beautiful piece of public art.

The mural represents a life filled with music.

The two-tone portrait reflects both loss and remembrance.

And the colourful surroundings connect Bonnie’s international legacy with the Welsh community where her story began.

That’s worth far more attention than the actions of a few individuals.

And with her final recording arriving on 13 November, there’s another opportunity for fans to celebrate the extraordinary voice that made her famous.

So here’s hoping the mural continues welcoming visitors for years to come.

That residents feel proud of the tribute.

And that young people walking through Skewen Park discover the music of the remarkable woman looking down from that wall.

Because while somebody might have thrown eggs at her portrait, they haven’t taken anything away from what Bonnie achieved.

You can’t erase five decades of extraordinary music with a few eggs, mun.

And you certainly can’t erase the pride of a community that remembers one of its own.

Bonnie Tyler will always be one of Cymru’s great musical legends.

Her voice lives on. Her music lives on. And her legacy deserves to shine. 🐉❤️🎤

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
