🎸💥 The hottest band in the world might have retired from touring, but they’re certainly not disappearing quietly! KISS have officially announced a brand-new documentary taking fans behind the face paint, fireworks and madness of their legendary ‘End Of The Road’ farewell tour – and it’s arriving on 19 November 2026!
Published: 27 October 2026 | The Riff Report Blog
Well, well, well, butt!
Just when you thought KISS had finally packed away the platform boots, extinguished the flamethrowers and given their poor stage crew a well-earned holiday, the legendary American rockers are back with another massive announcement.
And this one promises to be an absolute cracker!
After spending five decades turning rock concerts into enormous explosions of sound, spectacle and outrageous entertainment, KISS are preparing to take fans behind the scenes of their final world tour in a brand-new documentary titled KISS: End Of The Road.
The newly announced production will explore the band’s final touring years, revealing the friendships, arguments, challenges, emotional moments and spectacular performances that accompanied their farewell.
We’re talking backstage access, enormous productions, technical disasters, emotional goodbyes and enough pyrotechnics to make a Welsh bonfire night look like somebody lighting a birthday candle.
But there’s more to this documentary than simply watching Gene Simmons spit blood and Paul Stanley fly across arenas.
This is the story of how one of rock’s biggest bands brought an extraordinary touring career to an end.
And for millions of members of the KISS Army around the world, it’s going to be essential viewing.
🎬 KISS: End Of The Road – A Documentary Five Decades In The Making!
The upcoming documentary promises an intimate look at the final chapter of KISS’s touring career.
Directed by DJ Viola and produced by Leslie Greif of Big Dreams Entertainment and Elemeno Productions, the project has been developed in partnership with Pophouse Entertainment and Mercury Studios.
According to the announcement, the production follows the band’s final touring journey, culminating in their farewell performances at New York City’s legendary Madison Square Garden in December 2023.
Rather than concentrating solely on the performances themselves, the film promises to explore what happened when the musicians stepped away from the stage.
The documentary will examine the pressure of delivering massive concerts, the complications of life on the road, the relationships within the band and the emotional reality of saying goodbye to an audience that has supported them for generations.
And let’s be honest, when you’ve got Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley involved, you can probably expect a few entertaining differences of opinion along the way!
🔥 What Will The Documentary Feature?
The newly announced production is expected to include:
- Behind-the-scenes footage from the farewell tour.
- Personal moments involving the band members.
- Challenges surrounding the enormous touring production.
- Technical problems and unexpected complications.
- Health-related incidents encountered during the tour.
- The emotional build-up to the band’s final performances.
- Previously unseen footage from their final touring chapter.
- An exploration of what comes next for the KISS legacy.
It’s a rare opportunity to look beyond the makeup and enormous stage shows that transformed KISS into one of the most recognisable bands in music history.
And considering the sheer scale of their farewell tour, there should be plenty of stories worth telling.
🎸 Paul Stanley Reflects On The Final Tour
For KISS frontman and founding member Paul Stanley, the End Of The Road tour represented the conclusion of an extraordinary musical journey.
The Starchild described the farewell as the culmination of approximately 50 years spent developing and improving the band’s live performances.
According to Stanley, the documentary will allow fans to experience previously unseen moments from what he considers one of the most memorable periods of the band’s career.
He called the tour:
“A defining moment in KISS history.”
And it’s difficult to argue with that assessment.
This wasn’t simply another collection of arena concerts.
It was a carefully planned farewell to the enormous live spectacle that had become synonymous with KISS.
The towering stage sets.
The elaborate costumes.
The guitars firing sparks.
The enormous explosions.
And, of course, Gene Simmons doing what Gene Simmons does best – looking like he’s just escaped from the deepest, darkest corner of hell.
All of it formed part of a production designed to give fans one last unforgettable experience.
And now we’re finally getting to see what happened when the lights went down.
👹 Gene Simmons Promises A Different Side Of KISS
KISS bassist and co-founder Gene Simmons has also shared his excitement about the forthcoming documentary.
The Demon explained that the film captures the closing chapter of the band’s touring career, ending in the very city where the KISS story began.
New York has always held enormous significance for the group.
It was there, back in 1973, that Simmons, Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss came together to create a band that would eventually become a global rock phenomenon.
Five decades later, KISS returned to New York for their final shows.
For Simmons, that created an emotional full-circle moment.
He has described the Madison Square Garden performances as particularly powerful, with the documentary offering fans a different perspective on the experience.
And that personal side could be one of the most fascinating aspects of the entire production.
After all, we’ve spent decades watching Gene Simmons breathe fire, spit blood, stick out his enormous tongue and stomp around stages wearing boots that look like they require planning permission.
But what happens when the makeup comes off?
What does it feel like to finish the final concert of a 50-year touring career?
And how do you say goodbye to something that has defined virtually your entire adult life?
Those are the questions that could turn this documentary into something genuinely special.
🎥 The Documentary Trailer Gives Fans A Taste Of The Chaos!
An official trailer has already been released, offering an early look at what fans can expect.
The footage features KISS doing what they do best – delivering enormous, theatrical rock performances.
But it also reveals some of the difficulties experienced during the band’s final tour.
Among the moments highlighted is an incident in Brazil when Gene Simmons became dehydrated and had to perform part of a concert while seated.
It’s a reminder that even rock legends aren’t invincible.
Touring on this scale is physically demanding, particularly when you’re wearing heavy costumes, performing beneath intense stage lighting and surrounded by enormous pyrotechnic effects.
The preview also includes more personal reflections from the musicians as they contemplate the end of their touring career.
One particularly revealing moment features Simmons explaining that the emotional impact of saying goodbye might not fully register until the moment actually arrives.
That’s a very different side of the man we’ve watched terrorising concert stages for five decades.
And it suggests that beneath the enormous production values, there’s a genuinely emotional story waiting to be told.

🔥 The End Of The Road Tour – Five Years, 250 Shows And One Massive Goodbye!
To understand why this documentary matters, you need to appreciate just how enormous the End Of The Road world tour actually was.
KISS officially announced the farewell in September 2018, following a performance of Detroit Rock City on America’s Got Talent.
The tour eventually began on 31 January 2019, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada.
The original plan was to travel around the world, delivering the ultimate KISS concert experience before bringing their touring career to a close.
But, as we all know, the world had other ideas.
The COVID-19 pandemic forced the band to suspend touring in 2020, with concerts postponed and the original farewell schedule completely disrupted.
What had initially been planned to finish in 2021 eventually continued until December 2023.
By the time the final curtain fell, the tour had encompassed approximately 250 concerts, making it one of the most significant undertakings in the band’s history.
🤘 The Musicians Behind The Final KISS Tour
The farewell touring line-up featured four musicians:
- Paul Stanley – Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitar: The Starchild and one of the band’s original founding members.
- Gene Simmons – Bass Guitar and Vocals: The Demon, whose extraordinary stage persona became one of rock’s most recognisable images.
- Tommy Thayer – Lead Guitar: The Spaceman, who joined KISS as its lead guitarist in 2002.
- Eric Singer – Drums and Vocals: The Catman, who first joined the group in 1991 and became an essential part of its later touring history.
Together, they delivered a production celebrating the band’s extensive catalogue of classic rock anthems.
From Detroit Rock City and Shout It Out Loud to Love Gun, I Was Made For Lovin’ You and Rock And Roll All Nite, the shows were packed with songs that helped define generations of rock music.
But this was KISS.
Simply standing on a stage and playing the hits was never going to be enough!
💥 Fire, Explosions And One Of Rock’s Biggest Stage Productions!
Throughout their career, KISS built a reputation for producing concerts that were closer to enormous theatrical events than traditional rock performances.
The End Of The Road tour took that philosophy to another level.
Concertgoers witnessed enormous video screens, complex lighting installations, moving stage platforms, towering structures and spectacular pyrotechnics.
Gene Simmons was elevated high above the audience during his dramatic bass solo.
Paul Stanley travelled above concert crowds to perform from a secondary stage.
Eric Singer’s drum kit rose above the main performance area.
And Tommy Thayer delivered guitar work surrounded by enough smoke and explosive effects to keep the local fire brigade interested.
This wasn’t a production you could squeeze into the back of a Transit van.
Not unless your Transit was roughly the size of the Principality Stadium!
For audiences, the result was an unforgettable visual spectacle.
For the production crew, however, it meant an enormous amount of planning, equipment, maintenance, travel and technical coordination.
And the forthcoming documentary promises to reveal some of the challenges involved in keeping that remarkable machine running.
It’s one thing to watch Gene Simmons perform surrounded by flames.
It’s another thing entirely to see the people responsible for ensuring those flames go off at precisely the right moment.
Get that timing wrong, butt, and suddenly the backstage catering isn’t the biggest concern of the evening!
🇬🇧 KISS Gave UK Fans One Last Taste Of The Madness!
British fans also played an important part in the band’s farewell journey.
During their final touring years, KISS returned to the UK for major performances, including a headline appearance at Download Festival in 2022.
They subsequently announced a final run of British arena dates in 2023, visiting venues including Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena, Newcastle’s Utilita Arena, London’s O2 and Manchester’s AO Arena.
Their final UK concert took place on 8 July 2023, at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow.
For British members of the KISS Army, it represented the end of an era.
And for those of us here in Wales, watching one of rock’s most spectacular live bands bring its touring career to an end was a reminder that the legends we grew up listening to won’t be touring forever.
Whether you first discovered KISS through your parents’ vinyl collection, a battered cassette tape or a live performance that nearly blew your eyebrows off, their music has been part of the rock community for generations.
And that’s exactly why documenting these final touring years is so important.
🏟️ Madison Square Garden – The Final Curtain Falls!
On 2 December 2023, KISS performed the final concert of their End Of The Road farewell tour at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
The venue was particularly significant.
New York was the birthplace of KISS, making it the perfect setting for the conclusion of their touring career.
The band performed two farewell concerts at the venue, on 1 and 2 December.
The final performance was also made available through a global pay-per-view livestream, allowing fans who couldn’t attend in person to witness the historic occasion.
For those in the building, it was a spectacular goodbye.
For fans watching around the world, it was the end of one of the longest and most extraordinary chapters in rock touring history.
The final concert combined the band’s familiar theatrical production with the emotion of knowing this was the last time they would deliver that full-scale touring spectacle.
But even as the musicians prepared to say goodbye, KISS had one more surprise waiting.
Because this was never intended to be the end of the KISS brand itself.
🤖 KISS Aren’t Finished – The Avatar Era Is Coming!
At the conclusion of their final Madison Square Garden performance, KISS revealed plans to continue their legacy through digital avatar technology.
The project, being developed alongside Swedish entertainment company Pophouse Entertainment, aims to bring the band’s larger-than-life characters into a new form of live entertainment.
Pophouse is also associated with the groundbreaking ABBA Voyage production, which uses advanced digital technology to recreate performances by the legendary Swedish pop group.
For KISS, the ambition is to build upon that concept with a production suited to their own enormous theatrical identity.
Digital versions of the band have been created with involvement from Industrial Light & Magic, the visual effects company founded by George Lucas.
A dedicated KISS avatar show is currently being developed for Las Vegas, with plans pointing towards a 2028 launch.
And there are other projects in development, too.
Following Pophouse’s acquisition of the KISS music catalogue, brand and associated rights in 2024, plans have included a biographical film and additional entertainment experiences.
So, while the days of KISS travelling around the world with their enormous traditional stage show are over, the band’s characters and music are being prepared for a very different future.
Whether digital KISS can recreate the electricity of standing inside a packed arena watching the real Gene Simmons breathe fire remains a matter for fans to decide.
But you’ve got to admire the ambition.
Only KISS could announce their retirement and immediately start planning how to perform without actually being there!
That’s rock ‘n’ roll business thinking taken to another dimension, mun!

🚢 KISS Kruise Fans Will Get An Exclusive Sneak Peek!
Before the documentary reaches the wider public, a select group of fans will have the opportunity to see an early preview.

The tribute adds another emotional element to a period in which the band and its fans continue to reflect on their extraordinary history.
For longtime followers, seeing KISS without the famous makeup will offer a different experience from the enormous productions that dominated their touring career.
And getting an early look at the documentary is a pretty decent bonus.
Although knowing KISS, somebody will probably find a way to sell you a commemorative guitar pick before you’ve even found your seat!
🎥 Director DJ Viola Wants Fans To See The People Behind The Makeup
One of the most intriguing aspects of the new documentary is its emphasis on the human side of KISS.
Director DJ Viola has explained that working closely with the band revealed the enormous responsibility the musicians feel towards their audience.
According to Viola, the production follows the band repeatedly refining its live performances, determined to give fans the best possible experience right through to the final concert.
Producer Leslie Greif has also described the film as a record of a particular moment in KISS history, rather than another conventional biography.
With three decades of experience working within the band’s world, Greif has highlighted the importance of capturing the relationship between KISS and its loyal audience.
The production concentrates particularly on the final 50 shows leading to the Madison Square Garden finale.
That approach could make the documentary especially interesting.
Because while there have been numerous films, interviews, books and television programmes exploring the history of KISS, very few opportunities exist to observe a legendary band dealing with the reality of its final major tour.
And the emotional reality of that situation is something no amount of makeup can completely disguise.
🤘 Is This Really The End Of KISS?
Now there’s a question guaranteed to start an argument in just about any rock pub!
KISS have famously announced farewell plans before.
Their original farewell tour took place in 2000, with the group subsequently continuing to record and perform with changing line-ups.
The latest End Of The Road tour, however, was presented as the conclusion of their large-scale touring career.
And although KISS have since returned for special, stripped-back performances, including appearances associated with their Las Vegas fan events, that is different from restarting the enormous world tour operation.
The group has therefore entered something of a new chapter.
The traditional touring machine has stopped.
But the music, characters, brand and wider entertainment projects continue.
And with a documentary, an upcoming biopic and the developing avatar production, it seems unlikely that the world will stop hearing about KISS any time soon.
Whether that’s fantastic news or a terrifying prospect for your bank account probably depends on how much KISS merchandise you’ve already purchased over the years.
Knowing some collectors, there’s probably an entire spare bedroom dedicated to the stuff!
🔥 The Riff Report Verdict – You Wanted The Best, You Got The Documentary!
There’s no denying the enormous impact KISS have made on rock music.
Love them or hate them, few bands have changed the expectations surrounding live performances quite like these four face-painted rockers.
Their influence can be seen across generations of artists, from enormous stadium acts to underground bands dreaming of creating their own spectacular live shows.
KISS understood something important very early in their career.
A concert isn’t simply about playing the songs.
It’s about creating an experience.
Giving fans memories.
Making people feel like they’ve witnessed something extraordinary.
And nobody could accuse KISS of doing things by halves.
Their final world tour celebrated that philosophy on an enormous scale.
Now, with KISS: End Of The Road, fans will get the opportunity to see the realities behind the spectacle.
The hard work.
The pressure.
The disagreements.
The triumphs.
And the emotional moments that marked the closing chapter of one of rock’s most extraordinary touring careers.
If the documentary delivers on its promises, it could become an essential addition to any KISS fan’s collection.
And even for those who aren’t particularly enthusiastic members of the KISS Army, the story of a legendary band bringing a 50-year touring adventure to an end is a fascinating piece of rock history.
So grab yourself a drink, turn up the speakers and prepare for one final trip down the End Of The Road.
Just don’t try recreating Gene Simmons’ fire-breathing routine in your living room.
Your curtains won’t thank you, butt! 😂🔥
KISS: End Of The Road premieres on 19 November 2026.
Long live rock ‘n’ roll. Long live the KISS Army. And long live the music! 🤘🎸
