📅 Release Date: 10 September 2026
💿 Record Label: Independent / Sweet Electric
🏷️ Album: Something Something Disco

Someone fetch the cheap sunglasses, crank the amps and make absolutely certain there’s enough cowbell in the building.

Sweet Electric are back.

The Cologne-based rock ‘n’ roll rabble-rousers released their second full-length album, Something Something Disco, on 10 September 2026, serving up ten tracks and nearly 39 minutes of the sort of feel-good, riff-loaded rock music that sounds specifically engineered to make standing still physically impossible.

Despite the title, Sweet Electric haven’t suddenly ditched the guitars and transformed themselves into ABBA.

Although, frankly, we’d probably listen to that.

Instead, Something Something Disco sees the band expanding the sound established on debut album The Monsters Are Rising, throwing together hard rock, punk attitude, enormous melodies, flashes of glam, pop sensibilities and enough classic rock ‘n’ roll swagger to leave your speakers smelling faintly of beer.

Something something riffs.

Something something cowbell.

Something Something Disco.

Let’s bloody go. 🪩🤘

⚡ Sweet Electric Are Back In Business

Sweet Electric might be based in Cologne, Germany, but there’s a distinctly international flavour to the band.

At the front is Australian vocalist Brad Marr, formerly of Melbourne hard rockers Massive, bringing the sort of larger-than-life rock ‘n’ roll personality that makes considerably more sense once there’s a stage underneath him.

Sweet Electric formed in 2022, and they’ve wasted very little time since.

International touring followed.

Festival appearances followed.

A performance for Germany’s legendary Rockpalast followed.

And their debut album, The Monsters Are Rising, arrived in 2024.

Now, less than two years later, they’ve returned with album number two.

And they’ve called it Something Something Disco.

We already like where this is going.

🪩 Is It Actually Disco?

Well…

Sort of.

But also absolutely not.

Something Something Disco is still fundamentally a rock ‘n’ roll record, but Sweet Electric clearly aren’t interested in spending 39 minutes repeatedly playing the same three tricks.

There are big AC/DC-flavoured riffs.

There are punkier moments.

There’s glam.

There’s classic hard rock.

There are catchy melodies.

There are moments with a slightly more poppy sheen.

And yes, occasionally there’s enough groove floating around to justify that wonderfully daft album title.

This isn’t a band worrying whether every song fits neatly into the same box.

It’s five musicians throwing different ingredients into the rock ‘n’ roll blender and seeing what comes flying out of the top.

🔥 ‘Sick In The Head’ Kicks The Doors Open

The album begins with “Sick In The Head”, and there’s very little gentle easing into proceedings.

This is the point where Sweet Electric grab the record by the scruff of its neck and get moving.

Fast drums, energetic guitars and Marr’s vocal delivery establish the album’s party-rock credentials almost immediately.

There’s an urgency running through it that makes it an obvious opener.

No lengthy atmospheric introduction.

No mysterious two-minute instrumental prelude.

Just get in, turn everything up and start causing trouble.

Fair enough.

🇲🇽 ‘Mexico’ Wants To Escape The Daily Grind

Then there’s “Mexico”, one of the tracks that helped introduce this new Sweet Electric era.

The song takes the fantasy of simply packing your bags, buying some cheap sunglasses and disappearing somewhere considerably more exciting than the daily grind.

We’ve all had those days.

Musically, there’s a lighter, punkier bounce underneath the guitars, while the chorus has been built for exactly the sort of communal shouting Sweet Electric’s live shows thrive upon.

It’s escapism wrapped inside a big rock song.

And if somebody wants to fund The Riff Report’s investigative trip to Mexico to determine whether the song works better with a cold drink beside a swimming pool, we are prepared to make that sacrifice.

Purely for journalism, obviously.

🔫 ‘These Guns’ Brings The Swagger

If you prefer Sweet Electric when the guitars get chunky and the swagger meter starts flashing red, “These Guns” should do nicely.

There’s an old-school hard-rock stomp running through the track, with the guitars sitting front and centre.

This is where the band’s classic rock influences become particularly obvious.

It’s direct.

It’s muscular.

And it doesn’t require a degree in progressive music theory to understand what’s happening.

Sometimes you just need a bloody great riff.

Rock ‘n’ roll figured that out decades ago.

Sweet Electric haven’t forgotten it.

🖤 ‘Somewhere In The Middle’ Shows Another Side

Then things become considerably more emotional with “Somewhere In The Middle.”

Sweet Electric might have built their reputation around energetic, feel-good rock ‘n’ roll, but Something Something Disco isn’t afraid to step away from the party occasionally.

“Somewhere In The Middle” gives the record another dimension, allowing the guitars and vocals room to breathe before building into something bigger.

It’s also evidence that album number two isn’t simply The Monsters Are Rising Part II.

Sweet Electric are stretching the formula.

And that’s exactly what a second album should do.

💀 ‘D34D!’ Gets Weird

Then we reach “D34D!”

Even the title looks like somebody’s Wi-Fi password.

And musically, this is where things become particularly unpredictable.

Sweet Electric aren’t afraid to throw a few left turns into the album, and “D34D!” helps stop the record settling into an obvious pattern.

That’s one of the strengths of Something Something Disco.

For all the classic-rock foundations underneath it, this doesn’t feel like a band desperately attempting to recreate a record from 1987.

The influences might be familiar.

The attitude certainly is.

But Sweet Electric are having far too much fun messing around with the formula to become a straightforward nostalgia act.

❤️ ‘I Remember You’ Slows Things Down

“I Remember You” brings another change of pace.

It’s reflective, melodic and considerably more emotional than some of the album’s full-throttle rockers.

The track deals with memories, relationships and making peace with the past, showing the more vulnerable side of a band usually associated with sweaty stages and high-energy rock ‘n’ roll.

Importantly, it still sounds like Sweet Electric.

The volume might come down slightly, but the personality doesn’t disappear.

And when the song starts building?

There’s plenty of life left in those amplifiers.

🚗 ‘Long Way Back’ Hits The Road

“Long Way Back” was released ahead of the album and provided another strong indication of what Sweet Electric were cooking up.

This is the sort of track that feels designed for motion.

Cars.

Road trips.

Festival fields.

Sweaty club shows.

Anywhere except sitting politely in complete silence.

There’s a driving quality to the band’s best material that makes sense when you look at just how much touring Sweet Electric have crammed into their relatively short existence.

These songs aren’t being created in isolation from the stage.

They’re being built to survive it.

🤘 ‘Get Up’ Does Exactly What It Says

Track eight is called “Get Up.”

We’re going to assume the band’s intentions aren’t particularly mysterious here.

At under three minutes, it’s also the shortest track on the record.

Get in.

Make noise.

Get out.

Sometimes rock ‘n’ roll really doesn’t need an instruction manual.

🪩 ‘OMG’ Brings The Disco

Ah.

There it is.

“OMG.”

If you’ve spent most of the album wondering exactly where the disco part of Something Something Disco has been hiding, this is where some of that title starts making considerably more sense.

There’s groove in the machinery.

But don’t panic, battle-jacket brigade.

The guitars haven’t been confiscated at the door.

It’s still Sweet Electric.

They’re simply allowing the rhythm section to shake its arse a little.

And why the hell not?

🧠 ‘Pyscho’ Brings The Curtain Down

The album closes with “Pyscho”, the longest track on Something Something Disco at more than five minutes.

Rather than finishing with a disposable little outro, Sweet Electric use the extra room to give the record a more substantial finale.

It’s heavier territory, with plenty of bluesy hard-rock muscle still underneath everything.

By the time it finishes, the album has travelled through classic hard rock, punkier territory, emotional melodic material, groove and straight-up party rock.

Not bad for 39 minutes.

  2. Mexico
  3. These Guns

  8. Get Up

  10. Pyscho

🛣️ Built On The Road

Sweet Electric’s rapid development makes considerably more sense when you look at the amount of time they’ve spent onstage.

The band have toured across the UK and Europe, including dates alongside Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons, Smith/Kotzen, The Lazys and Hayseed Dixie.

They’ve also appeared at festivals including Stonedead, Call Of The Wild, Hard Rock Hell and Dong Open Air.

That’s a serious amount of road-testing.

And for a band specialising in energetic rock ‘n’ roll, that matters.

You learn very quickly which songs make people move when you’re staring at an actual crowd rather than a studio wall.

Sweet Electric have been putting in those miles.

🇬🇧 Back On The Road

And they’re certainly not sitting around admiring the new album.

Sweet Electric have more UK dates ahead, including shows in Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle, London, Norwich, Southampton, Cambridge, Oxford, Bath, Sheffield, Leeds, Wolverhampton, Liverpool, Carlisle and Glasgow.

So if Something Something Disco sounds like a record created with the live environment firmly in mind, there are going to be plenty of opportunities to test that theory.

Preferably somewhere with a sticky floor and an irresponsibly loud PA.

As nature intended.

⚡ Album Number Two Means Business

Second albums can be awkward creatures.

The debut gets years of ideas.

Then suddenly everyone asks what you’ve got next.

Sweet Electric haven’t waited around.

The Monsters Are Rising landed in 2024.

Two years later, Something Something Disco is here.

And rather than simply photocopying the debut, they’ve widened the musical playground.

That’s important.

The classic-rock revival scene is absolutely packed with bands capable of producing enormous riffs.

Being good isn’t enough anymore.

You need personality.

Sweet Electric have plenty.

🎸 The Riff Report Says…

Can we start by congratulating Sweet Electric for calling an album Something Something Disco?

Because that’s tremendous.

It sounds like somebody forgot to finish naming the record and everyone collectively decided:

“Nah, that’ll do.”

Perfect rock ‘n’ roll behaviour.

More importantly, the title fits the personality of the band.

Sweet Electric don’t come across like five musicians gathered around a whiteboard discussing their quarterly hard-rock strategy.

They sound like a band.

A sweaty, energetic, occasionally ridiculous rock ‘n’ roll band that understands the magical formula of big riffs + massive choruses + personality + cowbell = considerably better evening.

But Something Something Disco also demonstrates that they’re becoming more adventurous.

“Mexico” brings the infectious escapism.

“These Guns” supplies the swagger.

“Somewhere In The Middle” and “I Remember You” show a more emotional side.

“OMG” lets the groove loose.

And “Pyscho” closes everything with considerably more weight.

Ten songs.

Thirty-nine minutes.

Very little buggering about.

Sweet Electric are part of a generation proving classic rock ‘n’ roll doesn’t have to become a museum exhibit.

You can respect the old stuff without pretending it’s still 1987.

You can have massive guitars and modern ideas.

You can play serious music without taking yourself remotely seriously.

And apparently you can call the whole thing Something Something Disco.

Works for us.

Turn it up.

Grab a drink.

Find the cowbell.

And whatever you do…

don’t stand still. 🪩🤘🔥

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
