If Shield Wall was the march into battle and Draugr explored the horrors waiting beyond the grave, then The Slaughter is the brutal clash itself.
This is LN at their most ferocious.
From the very first riff, the Newcastle pagan metal outfit unleash an all-out sonic assault packed with crushing guitars, thunderous percussion and cinematic storytelling. It’s uncompromising, unapologetic and dripping with the dark atmosphere that has quickly become the band’s trademark.
This isn’t simply another heavy song.
It’s the soundtrack to the final moments of an ancient battlefield.
⚔️ Into the Chaos
The title tells you everything you need to know.
The Slaughter throws listeners directly into the violence, fear and fury of war. Rather than glorifying bloodshed, the song captures the overwhelming intensity of battle through massive instrumentation and vivid storytelling.
You can almost picture warriors charging across mist-covered fields, shields splintering, axes colliding and the echoes of war horns cutting through the smoke.
The atmosphere is relentless from beginning to end.
🎸 Riffs That Strike Like Battle Axes
LN continue to prove that heavy music doesn’t have to sacrifice memorable songwriting.
The guitars are absolutely monstrous throughout The Slaughter, balancing razor-sharp aggression with soaring melodic passages that keep the song engaging from start to finish.
Every riff lands with weight.
Every breakdown feels earned.
The rhythm section deserves enormous praise too, providing an unstoppable backbone that drives the song forward like an advancing Viking army.
🎤 Controlled Chaos
Vocally, The Slaughter is one of LN’s strongest performances.
The harsh vocals are savage and commanding, delivering every lyric with conviction, while the clean vocal passages provide moments of tension and reflection before the next wave of sonic destruction crashes in.
The contrast gives the track genuine dynamics rather than relying on constant aggression.
It’s brutal—but intelligently so.
🎥 A Cinematic Experience
The accompanying music video perfectly captures the song’s intensity.
Dark woodland settings, authentic Viking-inspired costumes, haunting corpse paint and dramatic cinematography combine to create a visual experience that feels closer to an historical fantasy epic than a standard metal video.
LN continue to build a recognisable identity where every release feels connected through mythology, atmosphere and storytelling.
That consistency is becoming one of the band’s greatest strengths.
🔥 Built to Ignite Live Crowds
You can already imagine this becoming an absolute monster in the live set.
The crushing riffs, commanding rhythms and explosive chorus feel tailor-made for festival stages. This is the kind of song that will have crowds pumping fists, raising horns and roaring every word back at the band while circle pits erupt below.
It’s heavy.
It’s theatrical.
It’s absolutely built for live performance.
🤘 The Riff Report Verdict
With The Slaughter, LN continue their impressive run of releases, delivering another epic chapter in their growing catalogue of Norse-inspired metal.
The band aren’t simply writing songs—they’re creating worlds.
Combining crushing modern metal with pagan atmosphere, cinematic visuals and authentic storytelling, LN are steadily carving out a unique place within the UK’s heavy music scene.
Every release feels bigger.
Every performance feels more confident.
And The Slaughter is yet another reminder that this band are only getting started.
