When most people think of a rock festival, they picture towering stages, roaring guitar solos, muddy boots, crowdsurfers flying overhead and enough black band shirts to blot out the sun.
But one of the UK’s favourite independent festivals is proving that heavy music and family life can go hand in hand.
Welcome to 2000trees Festival – the Gloucestershire event where children can spend the morning building dens in a Forest School, the afternoon charging around a playground and the evening enjoying their very own mosh pit before heading back to camp for a good night’s sleep.
Yes… you read that right.
🤘 A Festival for Every Generation
Held at the stunning Upcote Farm near Cheltenham, 2000trees has grown from a small independent gathering into one of Britain’s most respected alternative music festivals.
The 2026 edition welcomed thousands of fans despite blistering summer temperatures, with festival-goers refusing to let the heat dampen the atmosphere. Between incredible live performances, comedy shows, silent discos and late-night entertainment, visitors once again proved why 2000trees has become one of the friendliest festivals on the UK calendar.
The success has already led organisers to announce the festival’s return for 7–11 July 2027, where it will celebrate its massive 20th anniversary.
🌲 The Forest School That Makes Parents Smile
One of the biggest reasons families return year after year is the dedicated children’s area.
Instead of youngsters sitting around bored while their parents watch bands, 2000trees gives them an adventure of their own.
Activities include:
🌲 Forest School sessions
🛝 Adventure playgrounds
🎨 Arts and crafts
🎪 Family entertainment
🤘 Safe children’s mosh pits
🎭 Interactive games and activities
It’s the kind of place where future rock stars can discover nature in the morning before discovering their favourite band in the afternoon.
🤘 Yes… There’s a Kids’ Mosh Pit!
Perhaps the most brilliantly bonkers tradition at 2000trees is the famous children’s mosh pit.
Don’t worry—this isn’t the full-on chaos you’d find in front of a hardcore band.
Instead, it’s a fun, supervised opportunity for youngsters to jump around, laugh with new friends and experience the excitement of live music in a safe environment.
Watching tiny rock fans throw their horns in the air while parents cheer from the sidelines might just be one of the most wholesome sights you’ll see all festival season.
🎸 More Than Just Great Music
While the family attractions grab plenty of attention, 2000trees has never forgotten why people buy tickets in the first place.
Its carefully curated line-up mixes established rock favourites with exciting up-and-coming artists, creating one of the strongest alternative music weekends in the UK.
Throw in comedy tents, silent discos, independent food vendors, local craft drinks and one of the friendliest crowds around, and it’s easy to see why so many fans return every single year.
Unlike many huge commercial festivals, 2000trees has managed to keep its independent spirit alive, offering a more personal experience where music, community and atmosphere come before everything else.
🔥 Looking Ahead to 2027
The countdown has already begun for next year’s landmark celebration.
As 2000trees prepares to celebrate two decades of independent music, fans can expect another incredible weekend packed with unforgettable performances, fantastic food, late-night entertainment and enough family activities to keep every generation smiling.
Whether you’re bringing toddlers wearing their first band T-shirt, teenagers discovering live music for the first time or lifelong rock fans who simply want a more relaxed festival experience, 2000trees continues to prove there’s room for everyone under the festival trees.
🤘 The Riff Report Verdict
In a world where festivals are constantly getting bigger, louder and more expensive, 2000trees continues to do something refreshingly different.
It delivers world-class rock music while creating a genuinely welcoming environment for families, proving that introducing the next generation to live music doesn’t have to mean leaving them at home.
A Forest School.
A playground.
A kids’ mosh pit.
And some of the best alternative bands on the planet.
Honestly… what’s not to love?
Here’s to another twenty years of riffs, family memories and tiny metalheads discovering the magic of live music. 🤘🌲🖤
