The metal world is mourning one of its true pioneers. At The Gates have shared a heartfelt message urging fans to donate to a Swedish cancer charity in memory of their late frontman Tomas Lindberg, who tragically passed away in September after battling adenoid cystic carcinoma, a rare form of oral cancer.
In an emotional post, the band wrote:
“We miss you incredibly, Tomas. Your voice, your mind, your passion – they’ll echo forever. In your memory, we’re supporting Cancerfonden to help others facing the same fight. Please donate if you can.”
Lindberg, often hailed as one of the godfathers of melodic death metal, helped define an entire genre with At The Gates’ groundbreaking 1995 album Slaughter of the Soul — a record still worshipped by metal fans and bands alike nearly three decades later. 🤘
Beyond his ferocious vocals and stage presence, Tomas was known for his intellect, wit, and activism, teaching history when he wasn’t roaring into microphones. His loss leaves a gaping void not just in Swedish metal, but across the global heavy music scene.
