It’s a sad day in Bizkitville, mun. Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst has shared a deeply emotional video message following the tragic passing of bassist Sam Rivers, who died on Saturday aged just 48.
Durst, visibly shaken, took to social media late Sunday night to remember his longtime bandmate and friend — calling Sam “a true legend, brother, and the heartbeat of Limp Bizkit.”
“Sam wasn’t just the bass player. He was the groove, the soul, the silent thunder behind everything we did. I can’t even imagine this band — or my life — without him. We grew up together, built this crazy dream from scratch, and we made some wild memories. I’ll carry him with me forever.”
Rivers — known for his monstrous tone and unshakable stage presence — was a founding member of Limp Bizkit alongside Durst, Wes Borland, and John Otto. His pounding, funk-infused basslines helped shape the band’s explosive sound across albums like Significant Other, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, and Results May Vary.
The cause of death has not yet been made public, but tributes have been flooding in from across the rock world.
- Wes Borland wrote: “We’ve lost one of the real ones. Sam’s groove changed music forever.”
- Korn’s Fieldy added: “One of the cleanest, tightest bass players I ever heard. Rest easy, bro.”
- Fans have been posting clips of Rivers’ iconic live moments — from “My Generation” to “Boiler” — remembering the swagger and precision that made him one of nu-metal’s most underrated heroes.
🎸 A Legacy That Hit Harder Than Any Drop-D Riff
Rivers wasn’t flashy — he was steady. His low-end thunder was what glued Limp Bizkit’s chaos together, giving Durst’s antics and Borland’s guitar madness something solid to ride on. Listen to “Re-Arranged” or “Take a Look Around” and you’ll hear how much soul the man poured into every note.
💬 Fred closed his tribute with:
“Play it loud for Sam tonight. He’d want that. He always did.”
Fans around the world are doing exactly that — turning up the volume and rolling on, Bizkit-style.
🕯️ Rest in Power, Sam Rivers. The bass will never sound the same.
