“He never lost his roots… he was a Brummie through and through.”
Tuesday, July 22, 2025 – The day the volume dropped.
The day the bat finally flew off into the dark.
The day the world lost Ozzy Osbourne, age 76 – our beloved Prince of Darkness.
News of his death broke like a thunderclap across the rock community, and within hours, his hometown of Birmingham erupted – not in chaos, but in love, riffs, and remembrance. What followed was one of the most powerful, emotional, and gloriously loud fan vigils the UK has ever seen. 💔🤘
🕯️ FLOWERS, TEARS & RIFFS ON BROAD STREET
From the minute his family confirmed the news, fans began gathering at Black Sabbath Bridge on Broad Street, a site already steeped in history – and now, heartbreak. They came armed with:
- 🥀 Flowers
- ✍️ Handwritten notes
- 💿 Vintage vinyls
- 🧸 Even a few plush bats and crucifixes (classic Ozzy)
The crowd swelled as Sabbath songs echoed across the street, voices rising with each verse. “War Pigs,” “Paranoid,” “Iron Man” – these weren’t just songs tonight; they were hymns.
People cried. People headbanged. People hugged complete strangers in studded jackets. One bloke brought a candle shaped like a mic stand. Someone else set up a tiny shrine with a poster that read “God bless the Madman.”
It wasn’t organised.
It wasn’t rehearsed.
It was pure rock ‘n’ roll love.
“He never ditched Birmingham,” said one fan, wiping tears with a denim sleeve. “He never lost his accent. He was a Brummie through and through.”
🎥 THE BIG SCREEN TRIBUTE AT NEW STREET
As night fell, the tribute moved into full-on Ozzy Fest mode.
Outside Birmingham New Street Station, a giant screen and speaker rig were wheeled in – no permits, no worries – and the singalong became a stadium-sized karaoke of doom.
The playlist? A masterclass in madness:
🎶 “Mr. Crowley”
🎶 “Crazy Train”
🎶 “Shot in the Dark”
🎶 “No More Tears”
🎶 “Mama, I’m Coming Home”
There were lighters in the air.
There were beers raised to the sky.
There were tears, laughter, and one legend dressed as 1982 Ozzy shouting, “I’M STILL HERE!”
“It’s just sad to feel like an absolute god of rock is gone,” another fan told us. “But it’s beautiful to see how quickly Birmingham turned up to support.”
⚰️ THE FAMILY STATEMENT
Ozzy’s family released the following heart-wrenching statement on Tuesday morning:
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning.
He was with his family and surrounded by love.
We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
No frills. No PR puff.
Just grief.
Just Ozzy – the man, the myth, the Brummie.
🧥 NEVER TOO BIG FOR BIRMINGHAM
Let’s get one thing straight: Ozzy never went Hollywood.
Sure, he was Hollywood at times – the MTV chaos, the bat, the reality show madness – but he never left his roots.
He never cleaned up his accent.
Never turned his back on the West Midlands.
Never stopped repping Birmingham like it was the centre of the heavy metal universe – because, in many ways, it bloody well is.
“He’d joke, swear, fall over – but he always made you feel like he was one of us,” said a woman who brought her teenage son to the vigil. “Now my boy knows where real metal comes from.”
🖤 THE FINAL CURTAIN, BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN
Let’s be honest – Ozzy’s cheated death so many times, we thought he was indestructible.
- The plane crash.
- The drugs.
- The quad bike.
- Sharon yelling at him.
But this time, it was real.
And it hurts.
Still, the way Birmingham turned out? The voices that rang through the city? The riffs echoing into the dark? That’s how you honour a god.
“All aboard!” he’d howl at the start of every show.
Tonight, we’re all still on the crazy train. 🚂💔
