So you’ve just had your face melted off by Rock ‘n’ Roll Star, hugged 47 strangers during Don’t Look Back In Anger, and screamed yourself hoarse at Liam’s every snarl and swagger. Tidy! But now comes the final encore of your gig night adventure: actually getting home.

It’s a rite of passage in Cardiff — dodging the crowds, navigating the madness, and hoping your shoes don’t give out halfway down Queen Street. Don’t panic, butt. Here’s everything you need to know to get yourself home safe, sane, and hopefully not broke. 🧭👇

🚌 BUSES – THE GREAT ORANGE WHEEL OF FATE

Cardiff Bus tries its best when big events like this roll into town. But post-gig? It’s a free-for-all with queue snakes that’d make Alton Towers jealous.

✅ What to know:

  • Westgate Street and Wood Street are your best bets for buses. Follow the signs and stewards – and the mass of dazed Oasis fans.
  • They usually add extra services for stadium gigs, especially towards:
    • Ely / Caerau
    • Llanrumney / St Mellons
    • Canton / Fairwater
    • Roath / Splott / Adamsdown

But be warned: you WILL queue. And if you’re the last one on, prepare to cuddle up with someone’s armpit.

🚌 Download the Cardiff Bus app ahead of time so you’re not left staring blankly at a timetable while 500 people push past you.

👉 Cardiff Bus – for real-time updates and a bit of hope.

🚆 TRAINS – CATTLE HERDING WITH BEATS

If you thought Morning Glory was chaos, wait till you see Cardiff Central Station after a stadium gig. It’s like a post-apocalyptic scene — but with more bucket hats and people shouting “LIAMMMM!” into the night.

✅ Train tips:

  • Expect a one-way system and plenty of barriers.
  • Staff are everywhere shouting directions. Don’t argue – they’ve had a long day too, mun.
  • Extra services often run late for major events via:
    • Newport (regular service)
    • Valleys lines – Merthyr, Treherbert, Aberdare etc.
    • Bridgend, Barry, Swansea
    • Bristol & London Paddington (check GWR in advance!)

🎫 Golden Rule:

Buy return tickets in advance or load them to your app. Ticket machines post-gig? Pure chaos. You’ll age 10 years waiting in that queue.

👉 Transport for Wales
👉 GWR

🚖 TAXIS, UBER & THE GREAT RIP-OFF CHASE

Trying to get an Uber at 11pm in Cardiff after Liam Gallagher finishes? You’ve got better odds of getting on stage for Supersonic.

Surge pricing is wild, queues are long, and finding your driver in the crowd is like Where’s Wally but with strobes.

✅ Try this instead:

  • Walk away from the stadium zone (10–15 mins) before ordering a cab. The further out you go, the better your chances (and prices).
  • Local taxi numbers:
    • 🚖 Dragon Taxis: 029 2033 3333
    • 🚖 Capital Cabs: 029 2077 7777

💸 Heard someone paid £60 to go to Cathays once. I was tamping, mun!

🚗 DROVE IN? GOOD LUCK, DRIVER

If you brought the car, you better have parked smart, or you’ll be doing laps of the city centre with 10,000 other angry dads shouting at Sat Navs.

🅿️ Best parking zones:

  • Sophia Gardens (up the hill, 10 mins walk)
  • Leckwith Stadium / Cardiff City Stadium
  • Park & Ride East (Pentwyn) – decent price, buses run until late

🚦 Be patient leaving the city centre. You’re not moving anywhere fast – so chuck on some Oasis B-sides, and vibe out while everyone else loses the plot.

🦶 WALKING – LEGENDS OF THE LATE NIGHT STROLL

Live locally? You, my friend, are winning. Walk it off, chant some Cigarettes & Alcohol, and soak in that Cardiff buzz.

Approx walk times from Principality Stadium:

  • Cathays – 15 mins
  • Roath – 20 mins
  • Grangetown / Canton – 15 mins
  • Splott – 25 mins
  • City Centre hotels – 5 mins and a kebab 🍗

Just mind the KFC queue on Queen Street. It’s a warzone after midnight.

🛏️ STILL STRANDED? WHERE TO CRASH OR CROUCH

It’s half past midnight. No trains. No taxis. Your mate’s gone AWOL. Now what?

Last-ditch options:

  • 🛏️ Hotel Ibis, Sleeperz, easyHotel, Citrus – if you’re lucky.
  • 🛋️ Couches at Clwb Ifor Bach – okay, not officially, but you never know…
  • 🍟 24hr McDonald’s on Queen Street is the unofficial Cardiff Gig Refugee Shelter. Chips, tunes, and random strangers reviewing the setlist.
  • 🙏 Bribe a local mate with your gig tee. Or offer them your limited-edition bucket hat. Desperate times…

🎉 BONUS ROUND: AFTERPARTY ANYONE?

If you’re not done yet and still buzzing off Live Forever, Cardiff’s got a few places that’ll keep the Oasis train going until the wee hours:

  • Fuel Rock Club – sticky floors, loud music, pure rock chaos 🤘
  • Clwb Ifor Bach – indie heaven, and often has post-gig DJ sets
  • The Moon – cool vibes, good pints, and often surprise sets
  • Tiny Rebel – craft beer + gig chat central

Keep an eye on their socials – sometimes there’s an official Liam afterparty 👀

📝 FINAL WORDS FROM THE RIFF REPORT

Going to a gig in Cardiff is always lush – but getting home after one? That’s a whole new gig in itself.

So plan ahead, pack patience, and whatever you do – don’t follow that one guy who says, “I know a shortcut…” He absolutely does not.

👉 Tag us in your post-gig chaos @TheRiffReport
👉 And if you’re still stranded… we’ll bring a pint and a pasty 🍻🥟

C’mon butt – you survived Oasis in Cardiff. You can survive this too.

🤬 10 Metal Artists That The Mainstream Media Hated

Michael

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
