🖤 More Than Just Another Festival Stage

The S.O.P.H.I.E. Stage isn’t simply another place to catch incredible bands.

It’s the emotional heart of Bloodstock.

Named in memory of Sophie Lancaster, the stage stands for acceptance, individuality and the right for everyone to express themselves without fear of prejudice or violence.

In August 2007, Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend Robert Maltby were brutally attacked in Bacup, Lancashire, simply because they looked different.

Sophie protected Robert during the assault and tragically never regained consciousness, passing away on 24 August 2007.

Following her death, Sophie’s mother, Sylvia Lancaster, founded The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, whose message lives on through the initials:

Stamp Out Prejudice, Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere

Every year Bloodstock proudly celebrates that message.

🤘 Thursday 6 August – The Calm Before the Absolute Carnage

Bloodstock doesn’t believe in easing you into the weekend.

Instead it throws Cryptopsy at your face.

The Canadian technical death metal legends headline Thursday night with a set that’s likely to be one of the most brutal openings Bloodstock has ever delivered.

Expect impossible drumming.

Machine-gun blast beats.

Ridiculous musicianship.

And enough neck pain to last until Christmas.

They’ll provide a spectacular contrast after a day packed with crushing brutality.
