This wasn’t just a gig.
This wasn’t just a homecoming.
This was the funeral, the feast, and the fire – rolled into one colossal, doom-drenched, goosebump-laced goodbye.
BLACK SABBATH returned to where it all began – Birmingham – for the final time.
Not just a band. Not just a show. This was the end of the world, played out on the very soil where heavy metal was born. And we were blessed to be there. 🖤
⚰️ THE SETLIST – A BLACK MASS FOR THE AGES
- Black Sabbath (bells. thunder. screams. literal chills.)
- N.I.B.
- War Pigs (crowd screamed every word like it was the national anthem)
- Fairies Wear Boots
- Into the Void 🕳️
- Snowblind
- Sweet Leaf (Brum’s unofficial anthem tbh)
- Children of the Grave
- Behind the Wall of Sleep
- Symptom of the Universe
- Electric Funeral
- Iron Man (full arena stomp. louder than aircraft.)
- Paranoid (you already know)
- Encore: The Wizard (harmonica intro = tears), Heaven and Hell tribute to Dio, The End (final goodbye. Lights out.)
🎤 OZZY. IOMMI. GEEZER. BILL. TOGETHER. ONE. LAST. TIME. 😭
🦇 Ozzy – The frontman. The myth. The batty beacon of Brum.
Voice strained? Sure. But he gave every ounce of himself.
“You made us, Birmingham,” he said, “and we’re coming home to die with you.”
…then he launched into “N.I.B.” like it was still 1970.
🎸 Tony Iommi – Still the riffmaster. Still unbeatable.
His playing on “Into the Void” felt like the Earth was splitting in two.
His tone? Colder than the grave. Cleaner than ever. Evil never sounded so good.
🎸 Geezer Butler – The thunder. The poet. The philosopher of doom.
That grinding, unholy low-end shook the air. You felt “Children of the Grave” in your stomach.
🥁 Bill Ward – He’s back. And he BROUGHT THE DAMN FUNERAL MARCH.
Slower. Older. But so, so powerful. That swing on “Fairies Wear Boots”? Funky as hellfire.
Seeing all four original members together again? Spiritual.
A Brummie resurrection. For one last ritual.
🕯️ MOMENTS THAT TORE OUR SOULS OPEN
- The church bell intro to “Black Sabbath.” The sky actually rumbled.
- Ozzy’s tears during “War Pigs.” “We wrote this for the world. But we meant it for here.”
- Dio tribute during “Heaven and Hell” – video screen of Ronnie with full band backing. Crowd silent. Fists up.
- “The End” played entirely in silhouette. Four shadows. One light. Fade to black.
- The final bow. Ozzy fell to his knees. Iommi hugged Bill. Geezer just stared at the crowd, hands over his heart.
Then:
“We were born here. And now we rest here. Thank you… for everything.”
🧨 CROWD – BRUM, METALHEADS, FANS ACROSS GENERATIONS UNITED
This wasn’t a moshpit. This was a congregation.
- You had lads in Sabbath ‘78 tour tees hugging kids in Dio hoodies.
- One woman clutched her dad’s ashes in a box marked “Let him hear Paranoid one more time.”
- Whole families sobbing during “Snowblind.”
- Chanting. Arms in the air. Actual prayers to the riff gods.
We were not just watching history. We were part of it.
🎯 FINAL VERDICT: THE FIRST. THE LAST. THE FOREVER.
Black Sabbath began it all. And at Villa Park, they finished it with fire, grief, glory, and love.
This wasn’t just heavy. It was holy.
They returned to the altar they built. And they smashed the stained glass with doom riffs so mighty, the heavens themselves trembled.
Score: ∞/10 Funeral Bells and Final Bows 🕯️🎸
Mood: Empty. Full. Shaking. Grateful beyond words.
Diolch, Sabbath. For everything.
You didn’t just invent metal. You became its soul.
