But before Anika Nilles faced one of the biggest nights of her career, she received a deeply personal message of support from someone whose blessing surely meant more than almost anyone else’s — Neil Peart’s widow, Carrie Nuttall-Peart.

Of course, there will always be fans who don’t want Rush continuing without Peart.
That’s understandable.

End of story.
The chemistry between those three musicians created something extraordinary across decades of albums and touring.
But there’s another way of looking at it.
Those songs still exist.
Geddy and Alex are still here.
They still love playing together.
Thousands upon thousands of Rush fans still desperately want to hear that music performed live.
And crucially, Peart’s family has supported them doing it.
Nobody is pretending the past hasn’t happened.
Nobody is erasing Neil.

It’s about three musicians navigating an extraordinary legacy.

Before doing so, Nilles received encouragement from Neil Peart’s widow.
For someone entering one of rock music’s most emotionally complicated positions, you’d struggle to imagine a more meaningful message.
Carrie’s support doesn’t suddenly make everyone agree about Rush continuing.

Anika Nilles has one of the toughest jobs in rock music.

The Professor may no longer be sitting behind that kit.
