There are bands that play metal.
There are bands that experiment with metal.
And then thereโs Zivanished โ a band who looked at thrash, hardcore, punk, Middle Eastern music, Cypriot culture, bouzouki, belly dancers, fire dancers and gloriously questionable humour and apparently thought:
โYeah mun, chuck the bloody lot in.โ
And somehow, it works. ๐๐ฅ
Born from the Cypriot underground and proudly refusing to sand down any of their cultural edges, Zivanished have spent years developing something they simply call โCypriot Metalโ.
Not metal from Cyprus.
Cypriot Metal.
Thereโs a difference, butt.
And once you start digging into this lot, that difference becomes very obvious indeed.
๐จ๐พ IT STARTED WITH TWO BROTHERS AND ONE VERY LOUD IDEA
The Zivanished story begins with brothers Louis Syrimis on guitar and vocals and Constantinos Syrimis behind the drums.
The pair shared a vision of creating extreme music that genuinely represented where they came from โ using their own language, culture, humour and musical influences rather than simply copying what was happening elsewhere in the metal world.
That idea became what the brothers called Cypriot Metal.
Louis began putting that vision onto tape with โSto Horkonโ in 2009, followed by โKafkasโ in 2011.
When Kafkas found its way onto YouTube, things started moving.
The track quickly attracted attention and helped lead to Zivanishedโs first live performance in 2011.
And once youโve released the beast onto a stage, thereโs no putting it back in its cage.
๐ฅ ZIVANISHED TAKES SHAPE
Like many underground bands, the early years came with various line-up changes as Zivanished figured out exactly what the project needed to become.
By 2015, the pieces finally clicked into place with the addition of Miguel Trapezaris, completing the trio alongside Louis and Constantinos.
The current line-up is:

Constantinos Syrimis โ Drums
Miguel Trapezaris โ Bass
All three musicians are also active in Infected Syren, and their involvement in Cyprusโ metal scene stretches all the way back to the late 1990s.
So weโre not talking about three blokes who discovered distortion pedals last Tuesday.
These lads have put the graft in.
๐ธ SO WHAT THE HELL IS โCYPRIOT METALโ?
Good question.
Because trying to shove Zivanished neatly into one genre box is probably going to result in the box catching fire.
At the heart of their sound youโll find thrash, hardcore and punk, all smashed together with Greek and Middle Eastern influences.
Expect aggressive riffs.
Expect shouting.
Expect growling.
Expect speed.
Expect things to get weird.
And yesโฆ
Sometimes thereโs a bloody bouzouki.
Now weโre cooking. ๐๐ค
The bouzouki and regional musical influences arenโt thrown in as some novelty gimmick either. Theyโre part of the bandโs identity and their determination to create extreme music that actually sounds connected to Cyprus.
Perhaps the biggest part of that identity is the language.
Zivanished write their lyrics entirely in the Cypriot dialect.
That immediately gives the band a character you simply arenโt going to find among another thousand metal groups screaming interchangeable lyrics in English.
Their music comes from where theyโre from.
Simple as that.
๐ FAST. EXTREME. UNCOMPROMISING. AND COMPLETELY BONKERS.
The philosophy behind Zivanished has remained wonderfully straightforward.
Create music thatโs fast, extreme and uncompromising, while embracing the absurdity, humour and personality of Cypriot culture.
Thereโs aggression here, absolutely.
But thereโs also a willingness to have fun with extreme music.
Metal doesnโt always need to stand in a forest looking miserable while somebody takes a black-and-white promotional photograph.
Sometimes you can have crushing riffs and take the piss.
Thatโs allowed.
And Zivanished appear more than happy to demonstrate exactly how itโs done.

And quite frankly, youโve got to respect the commitment.
The EP continues Zivanishedโs tradition of combining heavy music, experimentation and dark humour while pushing their strange little corner of extreme metal even further.
Among its standout moments is:

Because apparently just turning up, plugging in and playing ridiculously aggressive music wasnโt enough.
Zivanishedโs performances have featured belly dancers and fire dancers, combining theatrical spectacle with the bandโs already unpredictable musical identity.
Imagine stumbling into a venue expecting a straightforward metal gig and being greeted by crushing thrash riffs, Cypriot vocals, cultural influences, dancers and actual bloody fire.

Their performances are designed to combine intensity with humour and unpredictability, turning Zivanished gigs into something considerably more memorable than simply watching three musicians stare at their fretboards for 45 minutes.

๐ค SHARING STAGES WITH SEPTICFLESH AND ASSASSIN
That uncompromising approach has already taken Zivanished onto stages alongside some serious names.
Over the years, the band have shared bills with internationally recognised acts including Septicflesh and Assassin, while also building their own reputation through headline performances in Cyprus.
Theyโve also taken their particular flavour of Cypriot chaos beyond the island with a performance in Athens, Greece.
And thatโs where the next part of the story gets interesting.
Because Zivanished clearly arenโt interested in keeping Cypriot Metal confined to Cyprus.

They do things themselves.
The bandโs recording and production is handled through Louisโ own studio, Syren Blast, giving Zivanished control over the music they create and the way itโs presented.
That independence fits perfectly with everything else about the band.
When youโre trying to establish your own genre, singing entirely in your own dialect and occasionally introducing a bouzouki into extreme metal, handing over the creative reins probably isnโt high on the agenda.
Zivanished know what Zivanished are supposed to sound like.

Itโs an identity.
One built from decades spent within the Cypriot underground, a love of extreme music and an apparent refusal to ask the question:
โIs this too ridiculous?โ
Because sometimes the best answer is:
โNah. Add a fire dancer.โ
Zivanished are loud.
Theyโre aggressive.
Theyโre weird.
Theyโre proudly Cypriot.
