Right then you riff-hungry reprobatesโฆ gather round. Because this oneโs for the proper UK thrash heads. The denim. The patches. The neck ache. ๐งฅ๐ฅ
Back in the late โ80s, when the UK thrash scene was absolutely spitting fire, Toranaga were leading the charge like a steel-plated juggernaut. Shoulder to shoulder with legends like Sabbat, Onslaught and Xentrix โ this wasnโt a band hanging off the sceneโฆ they were driving it.
Two absolute belters of albums โ Bastard Ballads and Godโs Gift โ plus live shows with heavy metal royalty like Manowar, Venom and Saxonโฆ by all rights they shouldโve been catapulted into arena-sized chaos.
But rock โnโ roll can be a cruel mistress, mun.
Momentum stalled. Fate twisted. And Toranaga slipped into a long, frustrating hiatus.
โก THE REBIRTH โ AND THE RESURRECTION โก
There was a savage rebirth in 2013 as The Bastard Son Of Toranaga, delivering the punishing Righteous Retribution. It proved the fire never truly went outโฆ but that chapter didnโt last.
Fast forward to 2024 and BOOM ๐ฅ
Toranaga return under the banner Toranaga UK, led once again by the indefatigable powerhouse vocalist Mark Duffy โ a man whose pipes clearly refuse to age like normal human equipment.
A storming EP, A New Order, landed in 2025 and sent a clear message:
This is not nostalgia.
This is unfinished business.
Since then? Touring with Onslaught and Xentrix again (full circle moment that, tidy!), plus smashing stages at Headbangers Open Air, Helicon and HRH Spring Break.
Theyโre not dipping a toe back in.
Theyโve dived headfirst into the pit.
๐ฅ โCRASH AND BURNโ โ 2026 STARTS WITH A DETONATION ๐ฅ
March 1st. Mark it. Circle it. Tattoo it on your forearm if you must.
New single โCrash And Burnโ drops and it absolutely rips.
This isnโt sloppy thrash-for-the-sake-of-it chaos. This is precision weaponry. Crisp, slicing riffs that cut like a blade fresh out the forge. Tight rhythm work. Stunning lead guitar flourishes. And Duffyโs voice? Still powerful. Still commanding. Still dripping with character.
Thereโs control here. Poise. Proper songwriting maturity.
The track builds with tension, layer upon layer, before unleashing a fierce, incendiary chorus that demands fists in the air and beer in the other hand. ๐บ๐ค
Itโs steeped in Toranagaโs roots but itโs not stuck in the past. Thereโs forward motion. Intent. Hunger.
This is a band who know exactly who they are โ and exactly what theyโre capable of.
๐ BIG SOUND. BIG TEETH. NO APOLOGIES.
Produced and mixed by composer Steve Kilpatrick (yes, the film-and-BBC-drama wizard himself), โCrash And Burnโ sounds bright, vibrant and absolutely heavyweight.
It punches. It snarls. It breathes.
And letโs not ignore that high-impact artwork, specially designed by drummer Toby Wallace โ because at The Riff Report we appreciate a band that sweats the details, mun. ๐จ๐ฅ
๐ค THE RIFF REPORT VERDICT ๐ค
Toranaga UK arenโt creeping quietly back into the shadows.
Theyโre lighting a torch and swinging a hammer.
If youโre into cultured, hard-hitting British thrash that balances aggression with actual musicianship, this is your cue to pay attention.
โCrash And Burnโ hits all major digital platforms March 1st.
Expect to see Toranaga UK tearing up festival stages throughout 2026.
The hammer to the skull is about to fall againโฆ
โฆand weโre front row for it, butt. ๐ฅ๐ค
