🔥What’s occurring, butt!? Grab your leather jacket, your warm pint of “festival mystery lager,” and that one mate who insists “rock peaked in ’86”, because we’re diving headfirst into the biggest, boldest, most chaotic list we’ve ever attempted. 🤘😂
This isn’t some dusty “Classic Rock Magazine dad list” written by a bloke who hasn’t left his recliner since Live Aid. Ohhh no, mun. This is The Riff Report, and we’re doing this OUR way: louder than a Marshall stack on fire, cheekier than a Valleys karaoke night, and packed with more attitude than Liam Gallagher on a Monday morning.
We’re celebrating the songs that built the festivals, the riffs that raised generations, the anthems that make 80,000 people scream in perfect drunken harmony, and the deep cuts that turned shy teens into lifelong headbangers. These are the tracks that:
🔥 started mosh pits
🔥 ended friendships
🔥 fuelled road trips
🔥 caused spontaneous kitchen discos
🔥 and made even your nan mutter “Tidy tune, that.”
From Zeppelin’s cosmic wizardry to Slipknot’s chaos carnival, from Sabbath’s doom-laden birth of metal to Paramore’s pop-punk scream-alongs, all the way to ghostly ghouls, Welsh legends, grunge heartbreakers, emo eyeliner warriors, and stadium-sized chorus merchants — this list has it all. 🎤🥁💀
Every tune here deserves its place because it did one of three things:
➡️ changed music
➡️ changed culture
➡️ or changed you, mun
And because this is The Riff Report, we’re not ranking them by “official metrics,” sales charts, or whether The Guardian thinks it’s “sonically poignant.” Nope. We judge by the only measurement that matters:
“Does this song make you scream YESS MUN and start headbanging like a psychopath?” 😈🤘
So tighten your wristbands, crack your neck like you’re about to two-step at Download, and dive in. By the end of this list, you’ll be yelling “PLAY IT LOUDER!” at your poor speakers — and probably booking at least three festival tickets you can’t afford.
Let’s do this, butt.
