Blackbird Festival lands 27 June 2026 — with Skindred, Florence Black & Cardinal Black. Tidy!
Cardiff Castle’s about to sprout wings, butt. Alter Bridge are bringing their own festival to the heart of the capital next summer, and it’s got a name that’ll make fans grin from ear to ear: Blackbird Festival. Date for your diaries: Saturday, 27 June 2026. Venue: the stunning Castle Green inside Cardiff Castle.
Imagine the scene — epic riffs bouncing off the ancient stone walls, the smell of street-food wafting through the crowd, pints in the sunshine, and the Dragon waking up for a proper headbang. 🔥🐉
🎸 The Line-Up (So Far) — Small But Deadly
This isn’t just Alter Bridge showing up and smashing a few songs — it’s a proper curated bill of rock power:
- ALTER BRIDGE – Headlining their own shindig like absolute bosses. Expect Blackbird, Metalingus, Addicted to Pain, and Myles Kennedy’s voice making angels cry.
- SKINDRED – Newport’s finest. The Newport Helicopter is coming home, mun — so get your shirt ready to spin.
- FLORENCE BLACK – Merthyr’s riff merchants, flying the flag for Welsh heavy rock. Big grooves, bigger choruses.
- CARDINAL BLACK – Cardiff’s sleek blues-rockers, bringing class, soul, and hooks that stick.
🎟 Tickets & On-Sale Dates
These will disappear faster than a tray of Clark’s Pies on a Friday night:

- General sale: 22 August 2025 (Live Nation & usual suspects)
Blackbird Festival is part of the TK Maxx presents DEPOT Live at Cardiff Castle summer series — which, let’s be honest, has been turning the Castle into Wales’ loudest courtyard for years now.
🏴 Why This is MASSIVE for Wales
- AB are making up for lost time. They haven’t played Wales in years — so instead of a normal gig, they’re dropping an entire festival on us. That’s how you say “sorry we’ve been away” the rock ’n’ roll way.
- All-Welsh firepower on the bill. Skindred, Florence Black, Cardinal Black — it’s basically a love letter to our homegrown scene. Expect singalongs you can hear from Bute Park to Barry Island.
- The backdrop! Cardiff Castle at golden hour with 10,000 rock fans? That’s not just a gig, that’s an album-cover moment.

🎤 The Riff Report Verdict
Cardiff + Castle + Alter Bridge + Skindred = chaos in the best way. We’ll be down the front yelling “YESS MUN!” and testing the structural integrity of those ancient walls with 10,000 feet jumping in time to Blackbird.
Bring sunscreen, bring your best helicopter T-shirt, and bring your singing voice. We’ll see you in the pit, butt. 🏴🤘
Psst: we’ll drop a full survival guide closer to the gig — covering food, loos, pit etiquette, and the best pubs nearby.
