Donington Park | 12โ€“14 June 2026

There are festivals, there are rock festivals, and then thereโ€™s Download.

That glorious annual pilgrimage where tens of thousands of black T-shirts migrate towards a field in the Midlands to worship at the altar of distorted guitars, overpriced food and the sacred ritual of waking up in a tent wondering why everything hurts.

In other wordsโ€ฆ

Home.

Download Festival returned to Donington Park in June 2026 with one of the biggest and most interesting bills the festival has put together in years.

At the top were three enormous names representing very different chapters of rock history:

Limp Bizkit. Guns Nโ€™ Roses. Linkin Park.

But as every seasoned Download veteran knows, the headliners are only part of the story.

Across three days, Donington delivered metal, punk, hardcore, alternative rock, nu-metal, industrial madness, deathcore, nostalgia, emerging talent and enough breakdowns to make a chiropractor start rubbing their hands together.

And while not every headline performance hit the bullseye, Download 2026 ultimately felt like something bigger than another weekend of bands.

It felt like a festival embracing its past while confidently marching towards whatever comes next.

So grab something cold, stick your battered festival wristband back on and join The Riff Report as we head back into the fields of Donington.

Because Download 2026 was one hell of a weekend.

๐Ÿค˜ Donington: Still The Spiritual Home Of Rock

Thereโ€™s something different about arriving at Donington.

Maybe itโ€™s the history.

Maybe itโ€™s knowing that generations of rock and metal royalty have stood on these grounds.

Or maybe itโ€™s simply seeing thousands upon thousands of rock fans descending on the same patch of countryside dressed almost exclusively in black.

Whatever it is, Download has an atmosphere few festivals can replicate.

For a few days every year, Donington becomes its own strange little civilisation.

Metalheads.

Punks.

Goths.

Hardcore kids.

Classic rock veterans.

Nu-metal survivors.

Young fans attending their first festival.

Parents bringing their kids.

People wearing battle jackets that probably weigh more than some of the bands.

Everyone piles through the gates for the same reason.

Music.

And Download 2026 once again proved just how broad the modern rock and metal community has become.

You could wander from brutal extreme metal to pop-punk, electronic-infused metalcore, classic rock, hardcore and nu-metal without ever leaving the site.

That diversity has become one of Downloadโ€™s greatest strengths.

๐Ÿ”ฅ FRIDAY โ€“ THE NU-METAL TAKEOVER BEGINS

Friday felt like somebody had discovered an old nu-metal compilation CD in the loft and decided to turn it into an entire festival day.

And frankly?

We were absolutely fine with that.

The weather had threatened to turn Donington into the traditional mud bath earlier in the week, but by Friday the festival was properly alive.

The expanded stages looked enormous, the crowds were pouring into the arena and that familiar Download electricity was buzzing through the site.

There was only one thing left to do.

Get loud.

๐Ÿ‘‘ Scene Queen Paints Donington Pink

One of Fridayโ€™s early reminders that Download is changing came courtesy of Scene Queen.

Bright colours, huge breakdowns, razor-sharp humour and absolutely zero interest in fitting anyone elseโ€™s idea of what metal should look like.

Scene Queen attacked the Apex Stage with confidence.

Thereโ€™s always been a certain section of heavy music obsessed with rules.

Whatโ€™s metal enough?

What belongs at Download?

What doesnโ€™t?

Scene Queenโ€™s answer appears to be:

Who cares?

The crowd certainly didnโ€™t.

It was fun, chaotic and completely unapologetic.

Exactly what festivals need.

๐Ÿ’ฅ P.O.D. Bring The Old-School Bounce

Then came a proper blast from the past.

P.O.D.

There are certain riffs capable of instantly transporting you back twenty years, and P.O.D. have several of them.

The band remain a ridiculously entertaining live proposition, mixing groove, rap-metal energy and massive choruses into the sort of set practically designed for a festival crowd.

For longtime fans, it was nostalgia.

For younger fans discovering them through the current nu-metal revival, it was proof that the old guard can still bring it.

Either way, Donington was bouncing.

โšก Pendulum Turn Download Into A Rave

One of the great things about Download is watching a band arrive who technically sit somewhere outside traditional rock and metal boundariesโ€ฆ

โ€ฆand then absolutely flatten the place.

Pendulum understand heavy music.

Not necessarily in the traditional guitars-and-leather sense.

But in terms of energy?

Absolutely.

Those enormous electronic drops combined with live instrumentation transformed Donington into one gigantic outdoor rave.

Tracks such as Witchcraft sounded absolutely massive across the field.

Sometimes heaviness isnโ€™t about how low your guitar is tuned.

Sometimes itโ€™s about making tens of thousands of people simultaneously lose their minds.

Pendulum managed that rather comfortably.

๐Ÿค– Electric Callboy Throw The Biggest Party Of Friday

If subtlety is your thing, Electric Callboy probably arenโ€™t your band.

Thankfully, subtlety has never been particularly high on Downloadโ€™s priority list.

Electric Callboy arrived with the musical equivalent of firing confetti cannons into a nightclub while somebody plays metalcore through speakers stolen from Wembley Stadium.

Ridiculous?

Yes.

Brilliant?

Also yes.

Their combination of electronic music, enormous breakdowns, comedy and shameless party energy has transformed them into one of Europeโ€™s hottest heavy acts.

And seeing them command the Apex Stage made one thing obvious.

These lads arenโ€™t climbing anymore.

Theyโ€™ve arrived.

A future Download headline slot?

Donโ€™t bet against it.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Halestorm Show Exactly Why They Belong On Massive Stages

There are good festival singers.

There are great festival singers.

Then thereโ€™s Lzzy Hale.

Halestorm have spent years steadily becoming one of the most reliable live rock bands on the planet, and their Download appearance was another reminder of exactly why.

Big riffs.

Big choruses.

Massive vocals.

No messing around.

Lzzy commands huge festival crowds with the confidence of somebody who knows precisely how good her band is.

Halestorm remain one of those groups capable of walking onto virtually any festival stage and delivering.

๐Ÿงข Limp Bizkit Finally Become Download Headliners

And then came Friday night.

The red caps appeared.

Lots of them.

After years of unforgettable Download appearances, Limp Bizkit finally stepped into the headline position.

And honestly?

It felt overdue.

Fred Durst and company have experienced one of rock musicโ€™s greatest second acts.

For years, nu-metal was treated like the embarrassing relative nobody wanted to acknowledge.

Then something happened.

A new generation discovered it.

The old generation remembered how much fun it was.

And suddenly Limp Bizkit became absolutely enormous again.

Donington on Friday night felt like the culmination of that revival.

Break Stuff.

Rollinโ€™.

My Generation.

My Way.

These songs arenโ€™t simply tracks anymore.

Theyโ€™re festival weapons.

Wes Borland remains one of rockโ€™s great visual characters while simultaneously producing riffs capable of causing spontaneous circle pits.

Fred Durst prowled the stage like the unlikely elder statesman of nu-metal.

And everywhere you looked there were people bouncing.

Teenagers.

Forty-somethings.

Old-school Bizkit fans.

New-school Bizkit fans.

Everyone united under one simple philosophy:

Give me something to break.

Download obliged.

Friday belonged to Limp Bizkit.

โ˜€๏ธ SATURDAY โ€“ SUNSHINE, METAL AND ROCK ROYALTY

Saturday morning arrived with the traditional Download checklist.

Sore feet?

Yep.

Questionable breakfast?

Probably.

Voice disappearing?

Absolutely.

Ready to do it all again?

Obviously.

And Saturday offered perhaps the broadest musical spread of the weekend.

๐ŸฆŠ BABYMETAL Continue Their Global Domination

There was a time when BABYMETAL appearing at a metal festival could trigger furious internet arguments.

Those days feel increasingly ancient.

BABYMETAL are now simply a massive international metal act.

Their Download set was spectacular, polished and gloriously over-the-top.

The combination of crushing instrumentation, choreography and huge melodic hooks continues to work brilliantly on festival stages.

More importantly, theyโ€™ve long since stopped feeling like a novelty.

BABYMETAL belong here.

Simple as that.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Trivium Deliver A Metal Masterclass

Few bands understand Download quite like Trivium.

Their relationship with the festival stretches back decades, and whenever they return to Donington thereโ€™s a sense of familiarity.

But familiarity shouldnโ€™t be confused with complacency.

Trivium came armed with precision.

Matt Heafy remains one of modern metalโ€™s most charismatic frontmen, effortlessly commanding crowds while the band fires through riffs sharp enough to remove eyebrows.

This was proper, no-nonsense heavy metal.

And it sounded enormous.

๐Ÿ˜ˆ Behemoth Bring Darkness To Donington

If Saturday afternoon was becoming a little too cheerful, Behemoth were available to fix that immediately.

Few bands can transform a sunny festival field into something resembling an occult ceremony quite as effectively.

Nergal and company brought theatre, brutality and an overwhelming wall of sound.

Blackened death metal on this scale should feel ridiculous.

Instead, it felt monumental.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Architects Pack Out The Opus Stage

One of Saturdayโ€™s biggest talking points came away from the main stage.

Architects drew an enormous crowd.

The British metalcore giants have spent years developing from underground favourites into one of the countryโ€™s biggest modern heavy bands.

At Download, that journey felt impossible to ignore.

The Opus Stage crowd was absolutely rammed.

Their combination of crushing heaviness, electronic textures and arena-sized choruses feels purpose-built for enormous festival stages.

And the obvious question immediately followed.

When do Architects headline Download?

Because after this showing, it increasingly feels like a matter of when, not if.

๐ŸŒน Guns Nโ€™ Roses โ€“ Flashes Of Magic, But A Difficult Night

Saturdayโ€™s Apex Stage belonged to one of the biggest rock bands ever assembled.

Guns Nโ€™ Roses.

On paper, itโ€™s impossible to argue with the songs.

Welcome To The Jungle.

Paradise City.

Sweet Child Oโ€™ Mine.

November Rain.

The catalogue is ridiculous.

Slash remains Slash โ€” effortlessly cool, instantly recognisable and capable of making thousands of aspiring guitarists consider selling their instruments.

There were moments when Guns Nโ€™ Roses reminded everyone exactly why they became one of the biggest bands on Earth.

But the headline performance never consistently reached the level the occasion demanded.

Axl Rose remains one of rockโ€™s most iconic frontmen, but this wasnโ€™t vintage Guns Nโ€™ Roses.

There were flashes of brilliance rather than sustained domination.

And at a festival where younger bands were producing career-defining performances across the weekend, the contrast occasionally felt stark.

That doesnโ€™t erase the magic of hearing those songs echo around Donington.

Thousands singing Sweet Child Oโ€™ Mine will always be special.

But Saturdayโ€™s headline set felt less like a triumphant victory lap and more like a reminder that rock history alone isnโ€™t always enough.

๐Ÿค˜ SUNDAY โ€“ ONE LAST PUSH

By Sunday, Download attendees evolve into a unique species.

Nobody walks normally anymore.

Everyoneโ€™s sunburnt somewhere.

Your phone contains photographs you donโ€™t remember taking.

Your tent smells suspicious.

And the idea of returning to normal civilisation feels deeply unreasonable.

But Sunday 2026 had arguably the most anticipated headline performance of the entire festival waiting at the finish line.

Before that?

Plenty more chaos.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ Bloodywood Bring The Fire

One of modern metalโ€™s most exciting success stories continued at Donington with Bloodywood.

The Indian metal outfit have built an international following by combining crushing modern metal with traditional Indian instrumentation and socially conscious songwriting.

Live, the combination is explosive.

Download crowds increasingly embrace bands bringing different cultural influences into heavy music, and Bloodywood demonstrated exactly why metal becomes stronger when its boundaries expand.

Heavy.

Unique.

Completely infectious.

๐Ÿฉธ Ice Nine Kills Turn Donington Into A Horror Film

If youโ€™ve ever thought:

โ€œThis metal festival is great, but it could really use more theatrical murderโ€ฆโ€

Good news.

Ice Nine Kills have you covered.

Their horror-inspired live production remains one of the most entertaining spectacles in modern heavy music.

Characters.

Costumes.

Blood.

Breakdowns.

Absolute nonsense.

Wonderful nonsense.

But underneath all the theatrics sits a seriously tight live band.

Ice Nine Kills understand something important.

Festivals are supposed to be entertaining.

And they deliver entertainment by the bucketload.

Possibly blood-filled buckets.

๐Ÿ–ค Bad Omens Look Like Future Headliners

Then came Bad Omens.

Few modern heavy bands have experienced a rise quite like theirs.

Their combination of metalcore, alternative rock, electronic atmosphere and enormous pop sensibility has introduced them to an audience stretching far beyond traditional metal circles.

At Download, they looked comfortable on a gigantic stage.

More than comfortable.

They looked like they belonged there.

Noah Sebastian carries himself like a frontman increasingly accustomed to enormous crowds.

And considering Downloadโ€™s continuing search for the next generation of headline bandsโ€ฆ

Bad Omens have surely entered that conversation.

๐Ÿ’ฅ A Day To Remember Deliver Festival Perfection

Few bands are better suited to festival afternoons than A Day To Remember.

Heavy enough for the metal crowd.

Catchy enough for everyone else.

Breakdowns.

Pop-punk choruses.

Crowd surfing.

Chaos.

Their Sunday performance was basically a reminder of why theyโ€™ve remained festival favourites for so long.

Sometimes you donโ€™t need to reinvent rock music.

Sometimes you just need massive choruses and a breakdown capable of rearranging someoneโ€™s internal organs.

โค๏ธ Linkin Park Close Download 2026 With An Emotional Triumph

And thenโ€ฆ

Linkin Park.

This wasnโ€™t simply another headline set.

There was history here.

Emotion.

Expectation.

Questions.

For countless Download attendees, Linkin Park were the gateway.

The band that introduced them to heavy music.

The band whose posters covered bedroom walls.

The band whose CDs were played until they stopped working.

And inevitably, Chester Benningtonโ€™s absence remains deeply felt.

It always will.

But Linkin Park in 2026 arenโ€™t attempting to pretend nothing happened.

This is a different chapter.

And Emily Armstrong has stepped into one of rock musicโ€™s most intimidating positions with remarkable confidence.

Standing in front of Donington and singing songs carrying decades of emotional attachment cannot be easy.

Yet Sunday night didnโ€™t feel like imitation.

It felt like continuation.

When those familiar opening notes rang across the field, thousands of voices responded.

Old memories collided with new ones.

People hugged.

People screamed.

People cried.

People jumped.

Songs that once blasted through bedroom speakers were suddenly being sung by an enormous crowd beneath the Donington sky.

And crucially, the performance didnโ€™t feel trapped by nostalgia.

There was celebration.

Energy.

Life.

Linkin Park werenโ€™t simply honouring where theyโ€™ve been.

They were showing where theyโ€™re going.

By the end, Donington had witnessed something genuinely significant.

A beloved band beginning to create new festival memories without erasing the old ones.

It was emotional.

It was powerful.

And it was a fitting ending to Download 2026.

๐Ÿ† The Riff Report Highlights

Choosing the best performances from a Download weekend is basically impossible.

Ask ten people and youโ€™ll receive eleven different answers.

But several names left Donington with their reputations considerably enhanced.

Limp Bizkit proved they absolutely belong at headline level.

Electric Callboy demonstrated theyโ€™re becoming genuine festival giants.

Architects produced another compelling argument for a future headline opportunity.

Bad Omens continued their rapid march towards the top.

Bloodywood showed why theyโ€™re one of modern metalโ€™s most exciting international bands.

And Linkin Park delivered the emotional centrepiece of the entire weekend.

There were discoveries everywhere too.

Thatโ€™s one of Downloadโ€™s greatest pleasures.

You arrive with fifteen bands highlighted on the schedule.

You leave talking about somebody youโ€™d barely heard of on Thursday.

๐Ÿ” The Download Experience

Of course, Download isnโ€™t only about what happens on stage.

Itโ€™s everything surrounding it.

The campsites.

The ridiculous conversations with strangers.

The person dressed as something completely inexplicable walking past you at 11am.

The smell of festival food drifting through the arena.

The constant calculation of whether youโ€™ve got enough money left for another pint.

The inevitable clashes between bands.

The daily pilgrimage between stages.

The moment somebody starts shouting something in the campsite and several hundred complete strangers join in.

These things are impossible to put on a festival poster.

But theyโ€™re why people return.

Download isnโ€™t simply an event people attend.

For many, itโ€™s a community.

๐ŸŒ Download Is Changing โ€“ And Thatโ€™s A Good Thing

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from 2026 was how clearly Downloadโ€™s identity continues to evolve.

Look at the weekend.

Limp Bizkit finally becoming headliners.

BABYMETAL commanding huge audiences.

Electric Callboy bringing electronic party metal onto the biggest stage.

Bloodywood representing the increasingly international nature of heavy music.

Bad Omens pushing modern alternative metal towards arena territory.

Architects drawing gigantic crowds.

Linkin Park entering a new era.

This isnโ€™t Download abandoning its history.

Itโ€™s Download recognising that rock and metal history is still being written.

The festival cannot survive forever by endlessly recycling the same handful of legacy headliners.

Eventually new giants need to emerge.

Download 2026 suggested several already have.

โญ The Riff Report Verdict

Download Festival 2026 wasnโ€™t perfect.

No festival ever is.

There were clashes that caused genuine emotional trauma.

There were tired legs.

There were queues.

There were expensive decisions involving food.

And Saturdayโ€™s headline performance didnโ€™t quite deliver the knockout many hoped for.

But zoom out and the bigger picture looks incredibly healthy.

Download 2026 delivered three days celebrating virtually every corner of modern heavy music.

It honoured the past without becoming imprisoned by it.

It gave legendary bands enormous stages while allowing newer artists to prove they deserve those stages in the future.

Most importantly, it reminded everyone why Donington remains such an important place for this community.

Because when tens of thousands of people are standing together screaming the same chorus into the nightโ€ฆ

Nobody cares what subgenre you listen to.

Nobody cares how many patches are on your battle jacket.

Nobody cares whether this is your twentieth Download or your first.

For one weekend, youโ€™re simply part of it.

And when Linkin Park brought Sunday night to its emotional conclusion, one thought seemed particularly appropriate.

Rock isnโ€™t dying.

Not even close.

Itโ€™s evolving.

Itโ€™s getting louder.

And judging by Download Festival 2026โ€ฆ

the next generation is already kicking down the door.

โญโญโญโญโญ

5/5 โ€“ A huge, chaotic and occasionally emotional celebration of everything heavy music can be.

Download Festival, weโ€™ll see you back in that field.

Bring the riffs.

Weโ€™ll bring the questionable footwear.
