Friday – Main Stage – 4:10pm

If anyone wandered into Steelhouse Festival 2026 thinking blues rock was all about slow tempos and smoky bars, Anthony Gomes was on a mission to prove them spectacularly wrong.

Taking to the Main Stage at 4:10pm on Friday, Gomes delivered a performance bursting with power, passion and enough jaw-dropping guitar work to leave jaws firmly planted somewhere on the Welsh mountainside.

By now, the Steelhouse crowd had well and truly settled into festival mode. Pints were flowing, the sun was doing its best to make an appearance, and the arena was steadily filling as more rock fans gathered to witness one of modern blues rock’s finest performers.

They weren’t disappointed.

🎤 A Voice Built for the Blues

From the opening number, Gomes commanded the stage with the confidence of someone who has spent years earning his reputation one show at a time.

His voice carried effortlessly across the mountain, moving from gritty, soulful verses to huge, powerful choruses without ever sounding forced.

Every lyric felt lived in.

Every note carried genuine emotion.

There was no pretending here—just honest, heartfelt rock and blues delivered exactly as it should be.

🎸 Six Strings, Infinite Talent

Let’s be honest…

Everyone wanted to see the guitar playing.

Anthony Gomes didn’t just deliver.

He absolutely tore the place apart.

Every solo was packed with feeling, speed and precision, blending classic blues phrasing with modern hard rock firepower. Rather than throwing in endless technical exercises, Gomes played with purpose, letting every bend, run and sustained note tell part of the story.

Several solos earned spontaneous cheers before they’d even finished, while seasoned guitar fans could be seen exchanging knowing smiles as another blistering lead break echoed across the festival site.

This wasn’t just technically impressive.

It was genuinely exciting to watch.

🥁 A Band Locked In

Great guitarists still need a great band behind them, and Gomes’ backing musicians were phenomenal throughout.

The rhythm section provided an enormous groove that kept every song driving forward, allowing the guitars to soar without ever losing the heartbeat of the performance.

Every member looked completely in sync, feeding off each other’s energy and clearly enjoying every second on stage.

That chemistry translated directly into the crowd.

🤘 Turning Casual Listeners into Fans

One of the joys of festivals like Steelhouse is discovering artists you might never have seen otherwise.

Anthony Gomes seized that opportunity with both hands.

People who had wandered over out of curiosity quickly found themselves glued to the performance. By the halfway point, the audience had grown noticeably larger, with plenty of fans moving closer to the barrier to soak up every riff and solo.

Heads nodded.

Air guitars appeared everywhere.

Even those nursing a pint couldn’t resist tapping a foot along to the infectious grooves.

🌄 Perfect Music for the Mountain

There was something wonderfully fitting about hearing Gomes’ blues-infused rock echoing around the Brecon Beacons.

The combination of soaring guitar work, warm melodies and thunderous rhythms created the perfect soundtrack for a Friday afternoon in one of Britain’s most unique festival settings.

Steelhouse has always embraced musicianship alongside pure rock energy, and Anthony Gomes embodied both in equal measure.

🔥 Every Song Raised the Temperature

As the set gathered momentum, so did the crowd.

Each song seemed to build upon the last, creating a performance that never lost its intensity.

Whether delivering driving rock anthems or slower blues moments, Gomes kept complete control of the audience, balancing virtuoso musicianship with songs that never forgot to entertain.

It was impossible not to admire the sheer quality on display.

🎪 A Festival Highlight

By the time Anthony Gomes thanked the Steelhouse faithful and walked off stage, he’d achieved exactly what every festival artist hopes for.

He’d won over a mountain full of rock fans.

Long-time followers left with huge smiles.

Newcomers headed straight for the merch stand.

And everyone had witnessed one of the finest displays of blues-rock musicianship of the entire weekend.

🍻 The Riff Report Verdict

Anthony Gomes reminded everyone why the blues remains one of rock music’s greatest foundations.

His guitar playing was phenomenal, his vocals dripped with soul, and his band delivered a performance overflowing with class, power and passion.

In a festival packed with big names and huge personalities, Gomes carved out one of Friday’s standout performances through sheer talent alone.

This wasn’t just another afternoon festival set.

It was a lesson in how to make every single note count.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (10/10)

Highlights:

  • 🎸 World-class guitar playing that had the mountain buzzing
  • 🎤 Powerful, soulful vocals full of emotion
  • 🥁 Outstanding musicianship from the entire band
  • 🤘 Brilliant audience connection from start to finish
  • 🔥 One of Friday’s strongest performances

🤘 The Riff Report Says…

“Anthony Gomes didn’t simply play Steelhouse—he owned it. Every riff hit home, every solo told a story, and for an unforgettable hour the Welsh mountain became the home of world-class blues rock. Proper stunning, mun!” 🎸🏔️🔥

Michael

Michael

🎸 About Michael Michael is the founder, editor and chief riff wrangler of The Riff Report, an independent Welsh rock, metal and alternative music publication built by fans, for fans. A lifelong rock and metal fan, Michael has spent years immersed in the music, culture and community that surround the heavier side of life. From discovering new bands and digging through classic albums to standing in muddy festival fields, squeezing into packed venues and spending far too much time near the front of a stage, music has always been much more than background noise — it is a massive part of who he is. That passion eventually became The Riff Report, a publication created to celebrate the bands, artists, venues, festivals, photographers, promoters and fans who keep the rock and metal world turning. Michael spends much of the year covering gigs, festivals, tours, album releases, new singles, interviews and music news, with a camera never too far away and a press pass usually hanging somewhere around his neck. Whether it is a huge arena show, a major outdoor festival or a tiny grassroots venue packed with people discovering their new favourite band, he believes every part of the scene has stories worth telling. For Michael, one of the biggest joys of music journalism is being able to shine a light on artists at every level. The Riff Report is just as interested in the hungry independent band playing to 50 people as it is in the global act headlining to 50,000. Supporting unsigned, independent and grassroots musicians is a huge part of the publication’s identity, because every legendary band started somewhere. Sometimes the next big thing is not on a massive billboard or a major-label playlist — sometimes they are crammed onto a tiny stage in a pub, plugging in their own gear and hoping somebody in the room remembers their name. Michael wants The Riff Report to be one of the places that remembers.
